Chapter 12
Billy moved in his seat, the car door handle digging into the small of his back. He cracked an eye open and was surprised to see it was already broad daylight outside. The heat in the car was terrible. It had been too cool during the night to keep the windows open, but the morning sun was now blazing down on the black Chevy and Billy hurriedly rolled down the two front windows. He turned to look over his seat to check on Xavier. Xavier was still asleep in the back, leaning up against the side door, his long legs twisted against the driver’s seat.
On Billy’s watch, Mickey Mouse read a little over nine.
