Chapter one

Madam Zora peered briefly into the new student's shades. She reclined backward as the girl in shades rubbed her forehead clearly showing discomfort. Zora then stared back into the file in her hands. It stated the girl was a demigod and that meant trouble. "It says here you are half God?" Zora questioned, given the girl an intense look while she awaited a reply. There was nothing wrong with being half-god but the school had a great dislike for the half-blood's and Zora feared the new student might face the consequences of what the crimes of Simon might bring upon her. "Yes..." The girl stammered. "...But I don't identify with my god heritage." Zora couldn't help but admire the sweet–stupid nature of the girl. Did she really think disentangling herself from the very thing running in her blood would spare her from hate? Quite unlikely yet it was not in her place to discourage the girl. The girl dreamt to become a fae godmother. Who was she to take that away from her? It would be illegal to take up "godmothering" without a license from the gods. "So you will be revoking your god powers when you clock eighteen?" "Well, yes." The girl replied. Zora took one last look down the girl's file. Her name was Talia. Talia Trueborn. It interested her to know what god spawned her, What reckless immortal would jeopardize a girl's life for a few minutes of pleasure? "Good to know..." Zora muttered as she tried to gather the courage to mouth the words killing her inside. "Have you met your father?" "No. I haven't." Talia's gaze lowered to the floor. Zora guessed her question had evoked something the girl did not want to reminisce so she promised not the probe her any further. She was merely worried about the girl. The hate for demigods in her school was beyond the clouds. But what could she do? She was only headmistress. The only comfort in it all was, Talia was only here for a seven-day program. Being a godmother was one of the lowly fae jobs out there. The girl had a simple dream and it was probably to keep attention off her. She was smart, Zora would give her that. "Well Miss Talia, welcome to Mirka Academy." Zora congratulated, shoving Talia's file into the bottom drawer of her desk then handing her a bunch of necessary papers the girl would need for the next seven days. "Thank you." The girl said, getting to her feet and prepared to leave. "Wait..." Zora interrupted as she ran a hand through her. She was forgetting something. Aye! She picked up a translucent orb rested on her table and handed it to Talia. "That is a pathfinder. See it as a guide to lead you to where you need to be." "Thank you." The girl old in response and turned to go. As she opened the door to leave. Zora saw it fit that she gave the girl a last piece of advice. "Talia, If you can, keep those glasses on at all times." "Ok." The girl appreciated then shut the door. *** Talia let out a deep breath. The anxiety had been killing her. She already had her mother to deal with. The woman was hellbent of making sure her daughter's dreams did not come true. Not because she hated her but because she was afraid. Talia knew firsthand what her heritage could bring. Demigods were feared in all thirteen realms and there was a valid reason for that. Unlike gods whose powers relied on worship, demigods powers came from within them which made them exceptionally powerful. A good example of why their presence brought on unthinkable fear in the minds of supernaturals and gods alike was the blooming of Simon, Son of the war god Kronos. He put the thirteen realms at great risk and even challenged Zeus. He was put down of course but even at that, the ordeal of the realms with Simon had put demigods in the blacklist. Talia clawed her frizzy hair off her face as she proceeded to dial her mother. She would be shocked to hear the comforting news. "Talia!" Her mother's enraged voice immediately pierced her ear. "Where are you?" "I'm fine," Talia informed, searching the barrage of papers in her hands to find her timetable. "Running away from home... Disobeying me... I am not having it Talia Trueborn. Tell me your location right this instant or I am getting a witch to do it for me." Talia knew too well that her mother's threat was not empty words which was why she had gobbled down a portion to keep herself invisible to locating spells but still she has to put her mother at ease. She was only doing her best to protect her– Even if Talia didn't want that protection. Sooner or later, her mother would find out so Talia decided to break the news to her. "I'm sorry mother but I am not having it too. Don't bother trying to locate me, It won't work and I got accepted. A seven-day program in my journey to becoming a fae godmother." The static silence over the phone told Talia everything. Words could not compare how her mother was feeling right now. A pang of guilt pinched Talia right in the heart but she had to take a step. She didn't want to spend her entire life in the Greenlands. She needed a change of scenery, something new. "...I know you are mad at me right now but hear me out mother. I don't want what you have for myself. I have a dream and I want it to become a reality. Let me." "Talia, You know very well I want all the good things in life for you but not now. It is dangerous. Wait till you are eighteen." "I wish I had the patience mother but you shouldn't worry, I have my sunshades." With that, Talia ended the call. She found the timetable and checked what she was having. Limits of magic. For the first time, Talia looked up to examine the hallway. The halls were dressed in black and white and the tiles were a checkerboard with people as the pieces. Nobody noticed her but that still did not stop the emotions welling up inside her. The bitter taste of dread made Talia's stomach coil immediately. Suddenly, She wasn't so sure she wanted to do this. Hesitantly, She took the pathfinder and said the name of the class she was having. A small drop of golden dropped to the tiled floor and immediately began to dance away. Talia duly followed and it led her across the hall to a door with the number eighteen nailed into it. The golden drop faded as Talia slowly pushed the door open. It let out a heavy groan, the hinges in protest. Anxiety filled Talia one more time as all eyes turned on her. This was the one thing she wanted to avoid but here she was, the subject of everyone's attention. "Sorry, You are?" The middle-aged teacher who Talia guessed was a witch asked. "I'm... a new student." Talia stammered, going over to show the teacher her acceptance letter. However, there are things not to be done when confidence is gone and in an instant, Talia missed her footing on the flat earth sending her the ground. The shock and horror didn't leave her when her glasses flew out of her face and scampered somewhere across the room. Then came the inevitable. "Are you okay?" The teacher queried bending down to help her up. The air was pushed out of Talia and her thinking distorted for a second. Why else would she look up? The moment their eyes met, Talia saw the concern and care the woman had for her a minute ago drain away. It was replaced by a horrified gape and the teacher wasn't the only one who drew back in fear. Everyone in the room saw it, the divine golden orbs, and they hated it.
