Chapter 11Daniel and his shadow showed up late at the Lazy Eight that night, and Moon Eyes acted sweet as potato pie, but they took another table, not the one where Long Face and me was sitting. I played a game of pool with Daniel, and he said he hadn’t embarrassed himself at the dinner table even if he still looked half dead. I don’t think he had no more than a six-pack the whole night. By midnight I was fed up. Moon Eyes was acting like a queen bee at her corner table, and Daniel stayed close by, except for the one game we played. She was wrecking him, and I just couldn’t hack it. My eye fell on a pretty girl I called Boots because she always wore fancy boots. She looked back at me and gave a little smile. I’d got her once when we were both in High School, but I never hooked up with her
