My Sympathies 1
ANNA
It's Monday morning, and Sebastian will come to pick me up so we can go to his office together. It was my turn to go to his company, as it was one of my grandfather's conditions.
I'm all ready, waiting for him to arrive. I am wearing a pink office suit with a white buttoned blouse inside, a stiletto, and a matching purse. My hair was in a high ponytail, and I had my glasses on. This time, however, I put on a pink lipstick on my lips.
There was a knock on the door, and I opened it to reveal a tall and thin white-skinned gentleman about forty years old with black hair and green eyes wearing a black suit and a blue tie.
"Good morning, Miss Williams. I'm Colin, Mr. Thompson's driver. He's waiting for you in the car."
"Good morning. Thank you." I closed the door of the mansion and followed him. He opened the car door and gestured for me to get in, and I did. I saw Sebastian in a gray suit and tie. It suits him really well, and I feel a tingle in my body. I breathed to calm myself. He was on call, so he greeted me with a gesture and continued. I smiled shyly at him. As he was still on the call, I just looked out the window, trying not to listen to the conversation. It's something about business, I bet.
We arrived at the building. Sebastian's call-ready ended, but he remained silent, and I did the same. Maybe the call left him in that mood. Colin went to the door to open it and let us out of the car. Sebastian got out, and I followed him after. As I got out, however, I stumbled a little and grabbed whatever was within my reach to not fall, which was Sebastian's hand in this case. He turned around, looked at our hands, and then looked at me with a strange and somewhat angry expression on his face. Before I can open my mouth to say something, he lets go of my hand in a brusque gesture, and I remain motionless. I looked at the floor, feeling an emptiness in my chest that went down to my stomach. A cold ran through my body. I caressed my hands and intertwined them while looking at him walking away.
"Are you okay, miss?"
I turned to look at my side to see Colin, who witnessed the moment.
I gave him a small smile. "Yes, I'm fine," I said, trying to compose myself.
He guided me to the entrance, perhaps afraid that I would trip again.
"It's okay. I'll be more careful."
He nodded and went back to the car.
I went into the reception area and saw Sebastian talking to someone. I stayed at a safe distance. After what happened earlier, I think he was embarrassed that I was near him, and that made me feel small. I wish I could get out of here, but I can't think of anything to escape. I felt his gaze on me, and I turned to look at him. He gestured for me to follow him to the elevator like I was a pet or something he could communicate with gestures. My face burned with anger. Who does he think he is? We entered the elevator, and a notification arrived on my phone. It was Dany asking something about a meeting. I spent my time looking at my cell phone, not wanting to see the face of my companion.
The elevator dinged, indicating that we'd arrived. He stepped out first, and I followed him. The offices were elegant, with everything in white. There are huge glass and aluminum cubicles of glass with a view of the city on the window.
"Good morning, Christine. I need you to please accompany Miss Williams to take a look at the company."
"Good morning, sir, of course." She smiled at me and took me with her as he entered his office without looking back.
'What is his problem? Can't he show some manners? ' I thought with gritted teeth.
We spent time getting to know the offices and facilities of the company. It is huge and well-organized. I don't know why Grandpa would want me to help here. Christine is a nice woman, simple and pretty. Talking to her made me forget what happened a little.
When we returned, there was Sebastian, Violet, and another tall muscular blond boy with a perfect face just like Sebastian. When I got closer to him, he smiled at me. Oh, how can a smile be so perfect?
Christine smiled when she saw what I was looking at. "He is Alexander Black, Sir Sebastian's best friend."
"I see," I simply said, turning to look at her.
"Oh, Anna, is that you?"
I looked at where the voice was coming from. "Hi, Violet."
She smiled. "Honey, how are you?" The two boys turn around, looking surprised at the encounter.
She approached me, hugged me, and kissed my cheeks before pulling me to where her two companions were.
"Son, this is Anna Williams," she introduced me to the blonde with blue eyes.
He looked at me and smiled. "So you are Robert's famous granddaughter; I am Alexander Black," he said, extending a hand toward me.
'Famous? ' I repeated in my mind.
I shook his hand and smiled back. "Anna Williams," I replied, and he remained smiling.
"What are you doing here, dear?" Violet asked me.
Before I could answer, Sebastian intervened. "We will work with Williams Corp. on a new project."
"Oh! That's wonderful. Our families are coming together! Well then, I'm inviting you to dinner tonight. Sebastian, please take your parents with you. Take sweet Robert with you too."
"Oh, I'm sorry he can't go, Violet. He's on a trip."
"Well, it will be just us then. I'll see you tonight."
Alexander and Violet said goodbye and left while I stayed with Sebastian. We entered his office. It is huge, surrounded by windows with some plants decorating the floor at the bottom of it. There is black leather furniture in the middle and a desk made of glass on the other side with a manager's chair behind it. He invited me to sit, and he called Christine, who explained the documents I needed to review.
I take the chance while I'm there to observe and see how Sebastian acts in business. He radiates power. A man so full of himself and arrogant.
When lunch came, he left without saying a word to me, and I left a few minutes later to have lunch nearby. Coincidentally, he was there as well with some businessmen. I knew he noticed me but ignored me, making me feel invisible. My heart squeezed in the same way it did this morning.
I sat at a table alone and ate as fast as I could, then went back to his office to take my things and left. I went to my office and Dany greeted me excitedly.
"What happened?"
"Nothing important, friend. I checked a few documents, had lunch alone, and now I'm here."
"Was Sebastian there?"
"Yes, but he was busy."
I'm not going to tell her that he ignored me and that I think he was ashamed of me.
"You still have time to get close to him, boss."
I sighed and gave her a smile. "I'll leave early today. Violet invited me to a dinner at her house."
"Is her son Alex Black going to be there?" She asked, jumping up and down excitedly.
"Yes, he'll be there too. How did you know him?"
"Girl, he, along with your fiancé, is one of the most sought-after bachelors in the country. You are one of the few who doesn't know him," she replied, rolling her eyes.
"Ah yes, I saw him this morning, and he is really attractive."
"Yes, he is!" She sighed dreamily and continued. "Oh, friend, it's not just one but two incredibly attractive men who are close to you. I'm jealous!" She gushed, putting her hands on her waist.
I laughed at her antics. "You know I am invisible to men. None of them has ever shown interest in me."
"Because you dress like Sandra Bullock in My Sympathies 1 before the transformation! Try dressing up sometimes. You will surely look beautiful." She urged me, looking hopeful.
"Uhm, I don't think it's a good idea," I denied, shaking my head. "Besides, I feel comfortable with the clothes I wear."
She rolled her eyes at me. "Okay, but if you change your mind, I will be more than happy to help." She smiled and winked at me.
"Don't worry, you will be the first to know."
