A Lady?
SEBASTIAN
I got up and went for a run. I still haven't recovered from the news of having to marry someone I don't even know. This whole situation bothers me. I don't know how I'm going to tell Danielle that our relationship is over because I chose the company over her. I hope I can get her back when this is over and that she understands all this, but how? If I can't tell her anything. Ah, damn it, it hurts me that I'll have to please Robert and marry someone who looks like a bitter woman.
I went to my office and spent the day organizing everything that would be solved after my marriage. A bitter smile etched my lips. It should have been my marriage with my beloved Danielle in a couple of months, but it would be with someone I don't even know. It will most likely happen within the month, although I'm not sure we need the money that soon.
I had lunch at the office until it was time to leave. I called my mother first before I left for Mr. Williams' house.
"Yes, my son?"
"The wedding needs to be in two weeks. I don't want any guests, just us and the godparents."
"But I don't want my son's wedding to be like that. I wanted a grand wedding with lots of guests."
I can't help but laugh at my mother's words. "Mom, you're forcing me to marry a stranger. Your dream wedding was destroyed from then on. Just do what I ask." I didn't wait for a response and hung up, annoyed.
When I arrived at the Williams mansion, the housekeeper opened the door. My parents were already waiting for me inside, so I greeted them and shook Mr. Williams' hand.
"Your parents told me that you want to move up the wedding."
"Yes. I want everything to happen as soon as possible to avoid more problems in the company and start married life with your granddaughter." The second part was not true. I just did not want him to realize that I was only interested in solving our financial problems.
"Excuse me, Mr. Robert, you have a call." Dolly, the housekeeper, interrupted us.
"Excuse me, I'll take this call." Robert excused himself and headed to his study to take the call.
My parents and I waited for my future wife. A few moments later, the door opened and a lady entered. She is wearing clothes that don't quite fit her. I bet she took the clothes and the huge black-framed glasses from her grandmother's closet. Her hair is tied in a ponytail. Looking at her, I knew I was right. She is a spinster.
She approaches us with Mr. Williams. My parents greeted her kindly, and she returned the greeting. I, on the other hand, was unwilling to greet her. She used her power to manipulate people as she pleased. I just hope that years will pass by quickly so I can ask for a divorce. We had dinner in an awkward silence. I could feel her giving me a few glances, which I ignored, not wanting to look at her. She is the reason why my life changed overnight.
When we were done eating, we sat in the living room with my mother talking excitedly with Robert while I thought about how to handle this.
"My child," Robert talks loudly, calling our attention. "Sebastian wants the wedding to be in two weeks with limited guests. You choose the godmother; he will decide who will be the godfather. The wedding will be in the garden with a special dinner. On that day, I will go to the house where I will settle down." She looked surprised by the last statement. "Sebastian will help you with the company, and you will support him in his. You two will live here, and I want you to sleep together in the biggest room. You will be seen in public as the couple you are. In three months, you must attempt to give me grandchildren. The marriage must last at least a year, and you can decide after."
"Grandpa, it is not necessary for you to leave this house."
"My Anna, I need fresh air and peace. To get away from the hustle and bustle of the city," he told his granddaughter, caressing her cheek. She nodded and gave him a sad smile. "That would be all for now. I need to rest. If something else comes up, I will let you know. Kevin, Monica, and Sebastian, thank you for coming. From now on, we will be family." The eldest stated with a smile.
My parents happily bid their goodbyes, while I only did it out of courtesy, and we left. The journey home was silent. I am not happy about everything and I have to break up with Danielle tomorrow.
The next day, after a long day in the office, I arrived at Danielle's apartment. I used the key she gave me six months after our relationship started to open the door. I am not sure how I am going to break the news to her, but I must do it tonight.
"Honey, you're here!" Danielle greeted me at the door.
"Yes," I replied, and she pulled away from me. "We have to talk."
She looked at me in confusion. "Of course. Let's sit."
We sat next to each other, and I took her hands before starting. "We... must break our engagement. There is something I need to do but I can't tell you anything. It is the only way to save my family's business. What is going to happen in my life from now on will not make any sense, but I am asking for time and understanding. When everything is over, I will come back for you, and if you still want it to, we can still get married."
Danielle was too stunned to speak. He didn't understand what her fiancé was saying. The only thing she could understand was that he no longer had the millions she thought he had, and if what he was asking would help him get it back, she wouldn't object. The only thing she wanted from her boyfriend was his status and money. He fell in love with her because of the fake kindness and selflessness she showed, so she had to maintain that image if she didn't want to lose everything. She didn't know how much patience she would need or if she would try and get another millionaire if this took longer than she wanted. She liked him for being extremely handsome and a good lover, but that wasn't going to feed her goal.
"I'm a little confused, and I don't understand what you're saying, but I'm willing to wait for you, and I want you to know that I'm here for you. I hope you won't leave me no matter what happens."
"I'll keep in touch, and we can keep doing the same things, but we can't be intimate anymore. Can you... accept that?"
She pretended to understand, but she didn't want to lose him in bed. It was the only good thing she saw in him apart from the millions he now seemed to lose.
"Love, I'll be with you no matter what happens," she replied with a fake smile.
Sebastian released the breath he was holding. Danielle proved to be the ideal woman, and that made him want to marry her even more when all this was over.
ANNA
It's Monday morning, and Sebastian will come in two weeks to help me. After the wedding, he needs to take care of his company, and I will have to support him.
"Good morning," Dany greeted me as soon as I entered my office.
"Good morning. Please sit down." I greeted her back. "Sebastian will come today to help me with these, so please prepare everything he would need. Please bring a laptop with the information on the pending matters and everything else, and put them on the meeting table."
"Of course," she says with a smile.
After Sebastian and his parents left, I called Dany to tell her what happened.
"Anna, I almost bit my nails off when you didn't call me."
"I'm sorry. They just left, and I can breathe now."
"So, tell me, what is he like?"
I let out a deep sigh. "Well... he's almost my age, tall, attractive like a Greek God; he has muscles everywhere, but he's too serious, and he seems arrogant. I don't know; it just seems to me like he doesn't like me," I told her, looking like a teenager lying face down, moving my legs up and down with my elbows on the bed.
"Oh, friend, you've come a long way. From absolutely nobody to a Greek God. Have you imagined him taking your clothes off and panting on top of you?"
"Holy God, woman! What are you saying?!" A smile formed on my lips and a blush on my cheeks.
"We should thank your grandfather. If it weren't for him, we would have to bury you a virgin. No matter how things are, you should give yourself a chance, okay?"
"What if he doesn't have that intention? I mean, giving us a chance. To be honest, I didn't think he was thrilled about all this."
"Well, you are a woman of high value. You're nice, beautiful, intelligent, and selfless, and I can go on all night. Plus, you have a killer body hiding behind those thick clothes you always wear."
"Stop exaggerating, good friend. Stop feeding my ego, and I might just believe you."
Danny rolled her eyes at me. "You should change your style, Anna. You are not a grandmother. Stop wearing those old-fashioned clothes and let time tell about the rest. Tell me when I can meet your future husband."
"On Monday. He will go to the company to start helping me with the pending tasks for two weeks."
"Perfect! I can't wait. See you on Monday. Rest now. I love you."
"I love you."
"What time will he arrive?" Dany asked in excitement, snapping me out of the conversation we had.
"He should be here in half an hour. Be patient, will you?" I said while laughing and shaking my head.
