Rejection

“Skylar no, you cannot do this. You have to investigate the truth of this matter. I was drugged—” He waved me off, not willingly to listen to a word I say as he stormed out, fuming. The guards quickly rushed to my side, and I held up a hand to stop them from touching me. I looked at Cora, the slight smirk appearing on her lips not going past my notice. “Your plan worked, didn’t it?” “It didn’t just work, Luna.” She laughed, dropping all pretense of the naïve innocent girl and showing me what her true colors looked like. “Now I just cannot wait for what would happen next. A good show is coming.” It was as if she already knew what my fate was like. That smile, I wanted to rip it off her face. I wanted to lose my patience and act on my intrusive thoughts for once. It would feel so good if I could just walk up to her with my claws out and rip out her face but I knew better than to do that. I clenched my fist tight, not saying another word to her before following the guards as they led me to my room. “Stay back and check the identity of that man. Tell me if he is dead or not.” I mind linked my best friend, and she quickly agreed. The man I allegedly slept with was quite the mystery. I couldn’t tell if he just didn’t dare to wake up or if he was truly asleep or if by any chance, he was actually dead. “Stay calm and think, Madeline.” My wolf Sage said to me in her familiar soothing voice. I knew she was right and I should be calm but I just couldn’t be right now. I was angry at myself first, then just angry at everyone and everything. Why did this have to happen to me? Why couldn’t I have not drunk that fruit juice? Why did I black out so easily and remember nothing? Why did no one come to my rescue even after begging so much? The door closed with a bang just in time for the tears to fall. I slid my back down the wall until I was sitting and hugging my knees. Usually, I had always been one step ahead of Cora in whatever schemes she tried to play, but this one… How did I not see this coming? No matter what, I couldn’t let her win today. “Sage?” I called my wolf in an utterly devastated voice. “Do you know if I really did it with that strange man?” I saw her shake her head through my mind’s eye. “I suggest you follow what your heart tells you, Madeline. Cora could be lying to you too.” “She could be lying, but she said all that about the pain from the bond in front of Skylar, and he didn’t refute her, which meant she wasn’t.” “Since she arrived here, she has always hovered around the Alpha. Do you think he wouldn’t have caught some feelings for her? He’s a man, Madeline.” “I know. But he’s a faithful man. He’s the kindest man I have ever met, Sage.” “Well, he didn’t look so kind to me earlier.” She shrugged, and I took in a breath. My wolf was right in a way. Skylar had been really mad so I understood why he talked to me in that way but for a matter like this, he’s definitely going to order for an investigation and know the truth of this matter before he takes any further action. “Luna, there’s trouble!” Daphne’s mind link came through urgently, and my eyes instantly snapped open. “The Alpha gathered everyone. It seems he wants to tell them about you.” “What?” My face contorted into that of disbelief. Skylar would never do that. He could punish me, but he’d never humiliate me like that in front of anyone. Oh goddess, what on earth was going on? The door opened and the guards poured in. “What’s going on?” I quickly stood to my feet, watching as they swallowed and hesitated to come closer. “I’m sorry, Luna. But the Alpha wants us to escort you to the podium.” The podium? I released a shaky breath as Daphne’s words earlier rang in my ear repeatedly. I could feel a foreboding feeling hovering around me as I took one step forward and then another. “If he’s going to announce it to the pack, your reputation will be ruined forever.” Sage was worried, restless and I was just lost. “I know.” I said. “I know you want me to think, but it’s hard, so give me a few seconds.” “Lun-Madeline!” I heard Daphne’s voice, but the guards stopped her before she could even get close to me so she could only walk with me from a distance. “Daphne? Did you find out the man’s identity?” I asked her quickly, and her expression shifted a bit. “They didn’t let me. Alpha’s men came to take him away. What actually happened, Madeline? He didn’t look like he was alive.” My brows furrowed deeply as I continued walking towards the podium with the guards behind me. If the man died, who killed him then? It definitely wasn’t me. “I know, and I trust you would never do a thing like committing adultery, so tell me what the f**k happened in there.” “I was drugged.” I simply told her, pausing to take in her expression. Shocked, confused and angry. “Who did it?” The fury on her face brought a smile to my lips despite my condition. “Technically, it was supposed to be you since I only consumed that fruit juice you brought me, but I’m sure you didn’t know anything about it.” Daphne stopped walking. Tears welled up in her eyes when she looked at me in utter shock. “You mean I did this to you? I caused you to be in this situation?” “It’s not your fault, Daphne. I knew you had no idea about it. You were probably tricked by her into given that to me-" “f**k. I can’t accept this. I’m going to give that b***h a piece of my mind and a taste of my fist!” “Daphne!” I tried to call her back, but she had already disappeared, her fists tightly clenched together. I took in a huge sigh, knowing Daphne should be the least of my worries right now. When we reached the clearing, I could see how everyone had already shown up, along with the guests we had from last night. The Alpha was sitting at the top of the podium, and as I passed the people’s front, I couldn’t help but notice their whispers. “Luna…” some greeted hesitantly while some didn’t bother, probably already hearing the gossips. As long as this issue wasn’t confirmed yet then I could still turn the situation around. Nevertheless, I held my head high up as I made my way towards Skylar. “What are you planning to do?” I whispered to him the moment I was close, but he ignored me like air, standing up to address everyone. “As one of the four greatest pack in the country, we’ve always had a good reputation, right?” “Yes, Alpha!” they all agreed, and I swallowed in nervousness, waiting, calculating my next step if ever he said what I assumed he was going to say. “Today however, our Luna here decided to put our pack’s glory in jeopardy while she f****d around with an Omega servant whom I’m sure you all know.” There was total silence at first. Then there came the gasps, the gushes, the disgusting looks they threw my way one after the other, and their mutters, some of their gossip finding their way to my ears. I staggered back in stupefaction, wondering if I heard correctly. If my loving husband had just said this out loud to the crowd. Looking at his face twisted in disgust, I knew my ears didn’t fail me, and I had heard correctly what he said, but that didn’t seem to be all. It seemed like he had more breaking news for the public. “If Cora wasn’t there to help me, I think I would’ve died from the pain yesterday. And if you’re Alphaless, wouldn’t that mean the Red Lake has come to its end?” he asked, and they all cheered in agreement. “That is why I have decided not to condone a behavior like this. I have decided to release the Luna from her duties.” He finally turned towards me, watching as the tears rolled down my eyes and as my lips quivered trying to say something but not finding the words. “I, Skylar Howard, Alpha to the Red Lake pack rejects Madeline Greywood as my chosen mate and Luna. With the power bestowed upon me, I exile you from this pack!”
