The beginnings of panic crept over me with the chilly evening air, despite Karden standing beside me, as the palace loomed over us. My right palm was suddenly too clammy for my liking, while I had the other in Karden’s hand. As we approached the closed doors, the thudding in my heart doubled, making it nearly impossible to breathe. It was like someone had grabbed hold of my lungs and was squeezing them tight, constricting my airways and making some feel faint. I was scared.
