Chapter 8

I woke up with kisses all over my face, "Ella, you're awake already!"  I asserted while checking her temperature.  "Yes mom, what happened to me?"

  "You had a high fever all night, how are you now?"  I inquired, "It's okay mommy, just hungry," she replied.  "Mom will make your favorite dish for you," I announced, lifting her from the bed.

  I came to the kitchen with my daughter's help, the cook showed me where the things I needed are kept, I made my daughter's favorite porridge and made sandwiches for my son.  "Come on, Ella, eat, I'll get your brother," I told her walking upstairs.

  "Baby wake up, I made you a sandwich"

  "No mom, I still want to sleep," he whispered, turning away from me.  "Daniel's mom reports to the office today, do you want me to be late?"  I implored, rolling my eyes.  "I will eat mom's sandwich, I'll be down soon."  I left the room and went Into the dining room.

  We are eating when my phone rings, it was my mom.  "Hey mom, how are you?"  I inquired wiping my mouth.  "Asher, when are you planning to come and see me, I'm your mother, but you don't treat me well, you're the only one I have, but you chose not to come and see me, it's been years Asher."

  "Sorry mom, I was busy with work and I told you I moved to work in the Maldives, I only came back yesterday."

  "I want you to come and see me today, Asher."

  "But mom" .... "No buts, that's done, see you tonight," she let out before dropping the connection.  "Is that Grandma?" 

 "Yes honey, I'm going to see her, you two would stay with Daddy," I explained, taking the last bite of my sandwich.  I cleaned up after eating, bathed the children, got ready, and went to the office.

  “Welcome back, Asher, how are you?” my manager Kim embraced me, “I'm fine Kim, just stress at work.  How are you,?  You don't look bad,” I scanned her with my eyes.

  "Stop acting like baby Asher, your Maldivian contract statistics are ready, guess what?" Kim grinned.  "I don't know Kim, just tell me," I poked her, "you're among the models nominated for the Model of the Year award, which will take place in six months," she screamed, jumping at me.  I was so surprised I didn't know what to say, I embraced her back, thanked her for staying with me, and guiding me before leaving.

  At noon, at Woods Enterprises, I had just taken over my father's business and was in a meeting with the executives, when my phone made a buzzing sound which silence everyone in the conference room, I checked the caller that it was my PA "good morning mr woods" he greeted, ''speak'' I instructed, "she has left the Villa."  I signaled the end of the meeting and everyone left, "How are the kids?"

  "Miss Asher looked after them before she left, it looks like she is visiting her mother"

  "Send people to watch her closely." I disconnected the call.

  * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *     I came to our old house, here my childhood memories and hatred of commitment began, my mother kept her old memories with my father, I told her to choose an apartment, but mother refused. I pushed the door and walked in with big strides, I didn't see her anywhere around maybe she could be in the garden, I told myself and went to the garden, '' just like I estimated you are here''

  "My baby," my mother hugged me with tears in her eyes. I dropped the basket of fruit I came with and hugged her. "I'm here now, you don't have to be too emotional, why is the front door open. I told you to stop leaving it open."  I let her embrace walking back into the living room.  "Put that aside, Asher, do you know Mrs. Robinson who lives a mile away?"

  "Yes, mom, what happened?"

  "I contacted her recently, she is looking for a bride for her son and she thinks that you are suitable because you are not married yet," explained mom, I was embarrassed by her outburst "mom!"  I yelled at her, how many times have I told you to stop hooking me up behind my back?"

  "Asher, you can't be lonely forever.  I set a blind date for today, the guy will be here soon ''

  "Mom, you tricked me into coming here I told you I had nothing to do with marriage" I shouted angrily, "Asher, you can't ruin your life because of your father, you will meet the blind date and that's it, ” she replied and returned to the garden.  I'm sick of all of this when will my mom stop thinking of fixing me on a blind date, I can't let this happen I will have to think of something, I went upstairs to my old room everything is still the same I picked up the phone and made a conference call with my friends "hey guys!"  I let out  "Asher where are you we were planning to meet Lora today" Jake muttered, how can I forget that?  I bumped my forehead. "Jake sorry about that but my mind was busy yesterday, Ella was sick all night" I whine wiping my eye with my left hand "what happened to Ella" they inquired, "Ella got food poisoning, I was informed last night by Ethan, I was so disorganized sorry I didn't meet you Jake" I explained they started screaming and calling Ethan incompetent and incapable of being a father I told them not to talk about him this way I was also guilty I shouldn't have left my baby to a man who knows nothing about the kid, they were surprised to see me on Ethan's side, I was even surprised with myself "Ella is getting better, I have a more pressing problem to discuss with you guys can you stay calm!. mom called me and tricked me to come home only to find out she had planned a blind date for me ''what!  Did aunt arrange a blind date for you?" Lilly inquired, "this is hilarious" Tasha screamed, how did I meet these crazy women I thought before seeking their advice.
