2. I walk up to my house and my parents are waiting for me. “My office. Now,” Dad says. Once we’re inside dad sits behind his desk and mom sits next to me on the sofa. “You attacked a girl at school today?” He asks. “No,” I say. “Then explain to me how a pack member's daughter ended up with a broken ankle and you skipped class,” He demands. “Someone put a hood over my head and I was pushed down the stairs. I was only defending myself,” I stated. “By the time someone noticed me I was already healing.” “Are you okay?” My mother asked. “How could someone surprise you?” My father questions. “You were reckless.” “I’m sorry father. I was distracted when I smelled something. I think it was--” “What?” He asked. “I think it was my mate,” I said. “But you’re not eighteen yet, you can’t feel the mate bond yet.” Mom says. “I don’t know how else to explain it. I was following the smell when I was attacked by those girls.” I said. “You need to be more careful, Midnight. You can’t lose focus.” Dad says. “This wouldn’t happen if the pack knew who I was. I don’t want to keep injuring the ignorant,” I tell him. “You’re right. It’s time. We should have done so when you returned. I’ll call a pack meeting ASAP,” dad mind links his Beta to make the arrangements. “I’m going upstairs to prepare for tonight,” and to speak with Selene, but I don’t know if I should tell him that just yet.  Once in my room I go to my bathroom and wash my face of all the make-up. I look at my amber colored eyes that always seem to blaze when I’m worked up. I strip down and look at myself for a long time. I am 5’6 with wide hips, a tiny waist, large natural breasts, and long hair that reaches down to my lower back. My natural auburn hair was dyed a metallic amethyst that I adore. I wanted it a bright electric purple but my dad bitched about it. He says a leader should always be an example to the pack. I can’t command respect that way. I step into my tub and sink into the steaming water. I need to contact Selene. ‘I’m here, my girl.’ She replied ‘I’m not ready. I’m not dressed.’ I say ‘A wolf is comfortable in all her forms.’ ‘Can we get down to it? I don’t mean to rush you but if my pack is in danger I need to know everything.’ ‘How much do you know of the great war between the supernatural world?’ ‘Not much. I know my family descended from Lycans and my grandparents were the last true Lycans. For some reason neither of my parents carry the gene. They battled evil witches and vampires who had gone mad in a search for power.’ ‘Yes, but that’s only part of your story. Your parents are hybrids and you, my child, are the only living tribrid.’ ‘What?!’ I can’t believe this. ‘Yes, child. Your father’s mother was a powerful witch who was mated to a Lycan. Her witch genes lay dormant in your father due to his dominant werewolf genes. Your mother is half vampire born to the vampire King. Your pack was attacked when you were born. In order to protect you, your grandmother bound your magic and suppressed your bloodlust. Because you are a born vampire you can choose to feed on blood for strength. This will allow you to heal others with your own blood. And your wolf, she’s very special.’ This is a lot to take in. ‘How so?’ ‘She’s mine.’ Selene says ‘Yours? I don’t understand.’ ‘Starfire was my wolf when I walked the Earth. When you are Starfire you have direct access to my power.’ ‘Why me?’ ‘You are the most rare wolf I’ve helped create. Your wolf, vampire, and magic created a one of a kind Lycan. She is a Phoenix. There are groups out there that have been corrupted by darkness and they will try to control you for their own gain. If they manage to corrupt you, they will use your power to bring the supernatural world to an end. You could single handedly wipe out an entire pack without breaking a sweat. That’s why you’ve spent your life training. You needed the discipline and self control. Now when you wake up you’ll need to be on alert at all times. You’ll feel danger before it comes. On your eighteenth birthday the spell that was cast on your will begin to fade. You’ll start to receive your gifts and awaken your vampire. It’s very important to train and master your gifts. Once the spell is gone completely your enemies will be able to sense your aura and find you. Be careful of who you align yourself with and the enemies you make. The bonds you make and break cannot be undone. You need to find your mates, Midnight. They will make you an unstoppable force.’ And just like that she was gone and I’m sitting in a tub of cold water with pruney toes. ‘Mates?’ How many mates do I have? Normal people only have one mate.’ ‘You’re not just anyone, Midnight.’ ‘Starfire?’ ‘’Yes, midnight.’ ‘Why didn’t you tell me you were Selene’s wolf?’ I have so many questions but right now that’s the biggest one, ‘We’ve been together for almost two years and you never mentioned it to me.’ ‘I didn’t know. It was like something was missing, and when I saw her it clicked. I didn’t even realize I was missing her until she came to me.’ ‘I understand,’ I felt the same way. How can I miss someone before I’ve met them. ‘Star, what do you think our mates are like?’ I asked her. ‘From what Selene told me we have three, and we’ve already started to feel the pull. Have you felt a connection with anyone you encountered today?’ My mind immediately went back to Aroha. I can see her beautiful smile and those piercing eyes I could just get lost in. ‘I think you may be right, you’ll have to look for her after tonight’s meeting. You have one mate for each side of yourself. We can feel the pull but the bond will fully form when we turn eighteen.’ Six days. I have six days to find my other two mates. I’m assuming Aroha is one of them. I really hope she is. I have six days before I get my magic and awaken my vampire. Six days before the mate bond is fully formed. What if Aroha doesn’t feel it? ‘She will’ ‘Thanks Star.’ Knock. Knock. Knock. “Midnight, honey are you okay in there?” My mom’s voice calls through the door. I open the door and walk into my room. Tossing the towel in the bin by the dresser I open the drawer to find my undies. “Honey, at least wait for me to turn around.” Mom smirks feigning modesty. “A wolf is comfortable in all her forms mom,” I smirk back. “I remember a time when you hardly wore clothes. Something about preferring the sun on your breast.” Mom turns beet red but doesn’t say anything in return. “Mom, Why didn’t you tell me?” I ask, but she looks confused. “About you and dad being hybrids. How could you keep something so important from me? You know i hate being unprepared.’ “You spoke with Selene?” She looks stunned, I nod. “To keep you safe. You have no idea how hard it is to hide half of who you are from someone you love,” she says. “Your grandfather still hasn’t forgiven me for not telling you about him. He’s a very proud man.” “Is that why I wasn’t allowed to visit him? Because he’s a vampire?” I always loved talking to him. “Did he want to see me?” “Of course he did! We didn’t know if the spell would hold if we took you away from home. We couldn’t risk it. Our family has enemies out there, on mine and your father’s side. To have a tribrid child is unheard of. We almost lost you as a baby before the spell. People could feel the power coming off you, I could smell it in your blood. The pack was attacked them day you were born. Had our family not been united that day we would have been destroyed. A warlock joined a rogue army to take you from us. My father’s army came just in time to aid pop pop’s pack. Your gran summoned the elders of her clan to help suppress your powers,” mom finishes. “That’s why no one sees me? Because I’m a danger to everyone?” I say. “ No, honey. You are our salvation.” She brings my favorite dress from my closet and helps me zip the back. “And you know how protective your father is. He’d never put you in harm's way.”  She curls my hair in loose waves and does my make-up. “Perfect.” “Thanks mommy,” I say. “You’re welcome, sweet pea.” “Oh, and mom--” I say “We have to move the Mate Ball to my birthday.” “What?!” She yells. “Selene says I need to find my mates to be able to defeat our enemies,” I say. “That’s not enough time to--” she pauses “mates?” “Yup,” I say popping the p. “I have three.” And with that I slip on my shoes and walk out of the room. 3-2-1… “DOMINIC!!!” Dad is going to kill me. ‘No kidding’ Starfire agrees
