Midnight POV
I’m looking at my pack in awe. They accepted me.
‘Not all of them’ Starfire says with a growl.
‘It’s going to take time’
I can see who she’s talking about. There is a group of girls around my age looking at me with a mixture of shock and disgust. They turn to walk away and I notice a girl with a bandage on the ankle of a skinny blonde in a blue dress that’s about two sizes too small for her body.
‘That’s the b***h that attacked us. Please let me out, Dini. I can teach her her rightful place.’ Starfire begs.
‘No, we can't punish her for not knowing who we are. No one has ever seen us.’ I say.
‘So it’s okay for her to treat fellow pack members with such disrespect?’
She asks. Starfire is trying to provoke me into letting her out, I can feel it.
‘That will have to be corrected. We must lead by example Star. Selene said we have to always be in control. Mind, body, and soul. We can't afford to lose control.’
‘You’re right. I’m sorry, Dini.’
‘Let's go meet our pack’ I say ‘I can feel Aroha close by’
The thought of seeing her again has Starfire purring with excitement. I head downstairs and I’m greeted warmly by everyone so far. They greet me as though I’ve received my title, as Alpha or My Queen. It feels so strange.
“Midnight!” I heard Aroha before I saw her.
“Hey girl,” she says and hugs me. I feel warm tingles spread everywhere she touches. She smells so good. I hold on a bit too long and when I pull back I see the slightest tinge of pink on her cheeks. She’s shy? That’s adorable.
‘She’s definitely our mate. I can feel it’ Starfire says
‘I hope so’
“You left before I could get your number earlier. Where did you go?” I ask
“I had class remember,” she laughs.Goddess I love her laugh.
“Oh, yeah.” Of course she had class. Ugh, I sound like an i***t.
“So how does it feel to be out of the shadows?” Aroha asks
“Honestly?” I exhale, “terrifying.”
“Don’t worry, stick with me kid. I’ve got you.” She blushes and locks her arm with mine. She’s so warm.
“Come on, let’s go find the food.”
We’re walking to the buffet tables when someone bumps into me with intentional force.
“Well, well. What do we have here?” The blonde bimbo and her minions are in front of us.
“Didn’t you learn yet, we don’t want you here,” one of her minions says.
“And who are you to tell me where I belong? Last time I checked I’m your future Queen, and you’re a nobody,” I say.
“My father is one of the top warriors in the pack,” Bimbo #1 says.
“If your father is one of my warriors then you know I out rank him. He answers to me,” I say. “And just because daddy is a warrior doesn’t give you a higher rank.”
“Just beat it Sophie. This is a fight you will lose,” I can tell Aroha has had a bad experience with this girl and that makes me dislike her even more.
“No one was talking to you A-w***e-a!” I growl at Sophie’s comment and I can smell the fear on her.
“Sophie!” Booms a strong sexy voice that sends chills up my spine.
I know that voice. I may not have been seen, but when I’d sneak out I would watch him in the training field. Dad said I was spying on the warriors but that didn’t stop me from admiring him. Shawn Patrick Williams, my future Beta. Shawn is 6’4 and built like a Greek God. Even in this low light you can see how incredibly handsome he is. Muscles rippling under his navy button down, sleeves rolled up halfway, tattoos going up his arms, and that ass!
“Snap out of it, b***h!” Sophie squawks, “He’s mine!”
“Can it Sophie! Speak to My Alpha that way again and I’ll have you cuffed in silver and thrown in the dungeons,” Shawn says.
Fuck. I can smell my arousal, and I’m not the only one. I look over at Ahora and see the same look on her face. I loved the way he said, My Alpha. Aroha looks at me and her face falls. Does she like him too? I squeeze her hand to let her know I’m here for her. Shawn is looking at every move I make and I want to know what he’s thinking.
“Alpha, would you like me to throw out this trash for you?” He nods towards Sophie’s Bimbo Squad.
“I’m feeling merciful tonight, Shawn. I think I’ll let them stay, but only if I don’t see or hear from them for the rest of the evening,” he smiles widely at my response and my panties are drenched.
“But I’m your mate!” Sophie shrieks.
“She is?” I ask
“NO!” “Yes.” They both say at the same time.
“I haven’t found my mate,” Shawn says, eyeing me with lust. “Yet.”
He looks at Sophie with disgust, “And she’s definitely not my mate.”
“Just wait Shawn. When I turn eighteen you’ll see we’re mates. You won’t be able to deny me then,” she says.
“I’m nineteen Sophie. If we were mates I’d feel the mate pull. It would only take one touch for you to feel it. The only thing I feel when I’m around you, is nauseous.” He looks at her coldly, “Leave, Sophie.”
She stomps her foot and disappears in a huff.
“Well that was interesting.” I start laughing but the others are still recovering from the drama.
“So is that true what you said about feeling sick around her?” I ask.
“Yeah. She’s had a thing for me for a while. Sophie is a power seeker. No one knew you’d be a woman, and no one had ever seen you. She’s been trying to throw herself at me every chance she gets. Probable the only downside to being the future Beta.” He smirks.
“Glad I’m not the only one who hates her.” Aroha says.
“Why do you hate her?” How could Aroha hate anyone, she’s too sweet.
“She tried to kill me when I got here just for being who I am,” she says.
“And who are you?” Shawn asks, checking her out.
“Aroha Hokulani, I’m a witch. The Bimbo Squad thinks I don’t belong here, but Alpha King Dominic personally asked us to move here.”
I burst out laughing.
“Bimbo Squad” I keep laughing “That’s the exact thing I called them in my head.”
“I guess we haven’t officially met, I’m Midnight, but you can call me Dini.” I hold my hand out to him and he shakes it. I wanted to test his mate theory and he was right. I felt warm tingles up my arm just like when I touched Aroha. I’m so aroused by just a simple touch. Shawns eyes go dark and he inhales deeply. He realizes what he did and pulls his hand away.
“Are you okay?” I already miss his touch.
“Midnight, when is your birthday?” He asks.
“Six days. Why?”Please tell me you feel it.
“s**t. I have to go,” he says before disappearing.
“Did I do something wrong?” I say looking at Aroha who looks at me with sadness.
“He seemed upset.” She says, “You know what, I think I should go too.”
I’m standing there alone watching the two people I’ve connected with walk away from me. I feel so empty and cold now.
Don’t leave me.
