Chapter 3.0: The Carriage

967 Words
Chapter 3 The moment I got sold, I was brought into a large carriage. Inside, I saw some girls inside with the same situation as mine. They were hugging their knees, and some of them were even crying from fear. The carriage started moving as soon as I got in and I struggled to look for a place to settle in because the ride was very wobbly. I was shocked and terrified to no end. I can’t believe that there are such people who will do such illegal acts in broad daylight. I was able to escape from my hellish aunt, but the place I arrived at does not seem to be any less dangerous. This is just too much to take. Seeing these girls shake in fear and almost pass out as they try to reach out for help makes me sick.  The woman beside me has blonde hair and beautiful green eyes. She looks like a noble just like me. Among all the other girls, only the two of us are not crying. But you couldn’t call our faces calm, either. I saw her taking glances at me as well. She scooted closer to me as the carriage continued to run along. The carriage didn’t have any available seats. And judging from the small amount of hay around us and the faint smell, this was probably used to transport livestock. We all sat down looking like pieces of goods with no idea what’s going to happen to any of us. During this time, I feel extremely helpless. I don’t even know if I should keep fighting for my life at this point, because it looks like my chances of getting out of here are almost zero. “You aren’t crying.” The girl from beside me finally spoke. I glanced at her. She wasn’t looking at me anymore and was instead just staring into space. “Aren’t you the same?” I dryly retorted and she just sighed as she proceeded to look at each one of our companions cowering in fear. “Do you even know what’s going to happen to each and every one of us now?” She said monotonously with eyes devoid of any light. The way I see her, I think she also lost hope in escaping this. It made me continue the train of thought I was having earlier, I don’t know what else I should lose. If I escape from this carriage right now, I will end up in the streets with nothing on my name or any skills that can help me survive. If I do get sold off, I will definitely live a miserable life in my master’s hands. What am I even fighting for now? “I have no idea. I don’t see the significance of knowing.” I replied coldly without an ounce of interest. The girl beside me let out an emotionless laugh. I looked at her and she moved closer. “Each of us will be introduced to the black market. The dark organization bought us from our parents, and they’re going to take us to their base right now to prepare us for their auction.” She whispered into my ear while looking around, “These girls will most probably get sold to older men to become a s*x slaves, or by other syndicates to perform illegal services like stealing or as bait. Once you enter their place, it’s impossible to get away because they already bought you. Your life is theirs to decide.” She said to me with a hint of disgust and bitterness. I can feel my tears falling down as I realize how my life is plunging into even more darkness. What in the world am I doing here? “Are you saying that my life is over?” I scoffed, trying to sound unbothered. She shook her head. “No. I’m telling you all of this for you to be aware of your situation. If you are a noble born like me, you have a high chance of being sold off for a political marriage or become one of their workers instead of becoming a s*x slave. That is because our market value is higher than a commoner. If you are wise enough, you can escape this place. But only if you want to survive.” Her words made my eyes widen in surprise. If there’s a chance to leave this place and escape this mess, then I will do whatever it takes! I don’t want to get touched by those filthy scums. It’s definitely not going to be easy, but I’ll need to try. I can’t imagine living my life like this forever! “How?” I unknowingly raised my voice and looked around to check if someone was looking, “How can I escape?” I whispered in desperation. “Become valuable to them. Show them your worth and capability to make them believe that it’s worth keeping you. That you’re above the other slaves. Use your intelligence and become strong enough to not give in no matter what they do. This dark organization consists of fools without proper knowledge. I don’t think they even know about anything except for counting money. That’s why they hire smart people to do their work for them while still raking in profit.” She explained sternly. “If you prove your worth, they will keep you alive at the very least. They’re not stupid enough to let talents go. Until then, live. Save your money and buy your contract.” She said and I was shocked to hear what she said. Did I hear that right? “Contracts can be bought?” I asked in surprise and she nodded. Maybe there IS a way out of this!
