~Elena's POV~
"Have patience! I'm coming!" I yelled from the kitchen.
I ran into the living room and quickly opened the door. After hearing my happy and chirpy voice over the call, Chase demanded to come home at lightning speed and dragged Adam back home. It's been only a few seconds since he is here but still, it feels like his happy soft bangs on the door will give me a headache.
I quickly opened the door and he jumped into my arms as soon as his eye landed on me and made an mmph sound while smelling the sweet aroma flowing in the house.
"Donuts!"
He exclaimed while jumping out of my arms and ran straight into the kitchen.
"Earlier, your voice told everything but still for confirmation, you got the job right?" Adam asked excitedly.
"Yup!"
I told him about everything that has happened today and he confirmed that Tiana is an amazing woman and always appreciates the hard work and newness. She is also popular in the industry for her work ethic and there are so many men who are jealous of her because she is running a successful business at a very young age.
Well... she is quite young. If I am not wrong, she is only 25 or 26. Even I am impressed that she was able to build such an amazing place and business at this age.
"I am confused. Which one should I eat?" Chase asked seeing three different flavours of doughnuts in front of him.
"Give one to Adam and eat the rest," I smiled.
"Nope, buddy. All of them are for you," Adam smiled.
We were talking about my shift and Chase when I saw the doorknob moving and heard the door getting unlocked. My heart started racing in my chest and sweat formed on my forehead. I held my breath and fisted my hand, no... this time I won't let him overpower me. I know who is going to barge inside in just a moment but this time I won't let him repeat his shitty actions.
"Are you okay?"
Adam asked but I didn't answer as my eyes were glued on the door which was slowly getting opened.
The door opened and with a creepy and dangerous smile, my father entered the house. His nose flared seeing Adam here and he was about to say something but Adam was quick to stand between us.
"Don't you dare..." Adam threatened him.
My father's eyes moved to me and I smiled while standing beside Adam, "Get out."
"I heard you got the money," he said with alcoholic breath.
"Don't you know the difference between money and a job? I got the job not money."
"Don't talk to me like that!" He growled.
My eyes moved to Chase who dropped the glass of water after hearing his voice. My father smirked looking at him but I pushed him away before he could reach Chase.
Adam and I shielded Chase and I yelled, "If you dare to do anything to Chase or me, I will not give you a single penny!"
"You will because you know what I can do." He laughed like a maniac.
"But you don't know what I can do. DO NOT TEST ME. I had enough of your s**t! Leave... else you won't be able to find me anywhere on this earth and you will be left with no money."
He growled in the back of his throat while trying to hold back his wolf and started to leave. He was about to exit the living room when he looked over his shoulder with a smirk on his face and said, "Bitter truth and reality. You are my daughter. You know I will find you no matter wherever you will be keeping yourself safe and hidden," and left.
I gulped with his tone and confidence in his voice and looked at the ceiling, why in the world did you give me a father like him, moon goddess?
He was f*****g right! Just because we are werewolves and I am his blood, he will be able to sense me anytime and anywhere. I wish I could do something to break this blood bond between us.
I picked scared Chase in my arms and started rubbing his back to soothe him. Adam silently closed the door and with a frown settled on his face, he patted the space next to him and asked, "I still don't understand how the heck he is able to make that sound. How does he always make the sound of an animal when he is angry? I don't get his... growls?"
And I don't know how to explain this to you without telling you the reality. The reality which I despise.
I shrugged, "I don't know. Maybe a lot of alcohol has done something to his throat."
He wasn't convinced by this but let it slide anyway.
"He interrupted our discussion. So I was saying that Chase can stay with me at the gym while you work."
"Are you sure? He is just a kid. What if he creates a disturbance for you there?"
I like this idea as Chase will be safe, but I don't want him to feel obliged when he isn't.
"Come on, I love being with him and I will also teach him self-defence. Even you should learn it too," he said with a bright smile on his face.
Not a bad idea. At least I will be able to stand my ground in front of my father and maybe I will leave him behind too.
"I have to reach the restaurant by 9. I will see you in the gym at 7?" I asked with excitement.
He nodded his head with a grin on his face and Chase yelled, "Now I will be learning to fight too. I will protect you, Aunty, now!"
We both laughed at the three year old's exclamation and Adam made Chase understand that he will be learning to protect himself and me not to engage in fights.
"And don't worry, I'll pay the gym fee too," I giggled.
"I never mentioned that. And you don't have to. You know that gym is mine, I am the owner of the gym." he huffed.
"And that is your source of income. But... if you insist, I won't mind getting a discount," I laughed.
We talked about for an hour or so while Chase did the work that Adam gave him. Along with being our good friend, Adam also helps Chase with learning new things that he should be learning by going to school. But since I can't afford his schooling at the moment, Adam and I home school him.
Adam left after a while and Chase showed me what he had learnt today.
"I will give you proper schooling, I promise," I kissed Chase's head and he smiled at me.
I left Chase to do the leftover work and went into the shower. My day was amazing, but it was indeed tiring and sweaty. I am thankful to the receptionist who stopped me for a while, otherwise, I would have returned home with my usual low enthusiasm.
Letting the cold shower take all of my stress away, I stayed in the shower for twenty minutes.
I walked out of the bathroom and quickly got dressed in my oversized tee and pj's. I saw Chase flipping pages of a magazine and he smiled seeing me walking towards him, "Your picture will look beautiful here."
"My picture in a magazine? I am not that beautiful Chase." I laughed.
"Don't say that! You look like my mom and my mom was beautiful." he huffed angrily while crossing his tiny arms against his chest and slumping back on the bed.
"Alright, I am beautiful. But we can't ignore the fact that your mum was prettier," I smiled remembering my sister's beautiful face.
I took the frame from my left and smiled at the picture in which Becs and I were smiling ear to ear. Becs had a nice phone so with the help of the front camera, I clicked our picture in which she was admiring her little boy's smile and I was grinning into the camera with a v sign. I sighed, we were so perfect together.
And Chase is right... I do look like my sister. I am not a complete replica of her, but anyone who will have a look at us will be able to tell that we are sisters. The minor differences are that she had brown eyes just like our father's, whereas I have our mother's hazel eyes. Just like mine, her hair was also brown but she liked brunette hair the most, so she dyed her hair and these two things made us look different from each other.
I remember the day she dyed her hair. I was huffing and puffing with tears in my eyes that she doesn't like the things that confirm we are sisters and she was laughing so hard at my kiddish behaviour that tears started forming in her eyes too. She convinced me that she is doing what her favourite model did and bribed me with a box of chocolate to prevent me from stopping her.
I smiled, I wish she was still here to bribe me the way she used to do.
"Smile like this, I will click your picture," Chase said opening the camera on my old button phone.
I tickled him making him giggle and quickly clicked his picture. I smiled while looking at his gorgeous smile, I may not be able to smile with my heart today, but maybe one day I will smile with all my heart.
