Ivy
Leaving Vee and Low to get our lunch, I head out to our special tree. We’ve been sitting at this tree since our first day of high school. We’ve even carved our names into the trunk of the tree. It holds a sentimental value to the three of us. It doesn’t matter if we aren’t at school, if one of us is having an issue, we come to sit here and think.
Dropping my bag next to the trunk, I sit down and rest my back against it. The bark rubs against the bare skin above my tank top, but that is okay; it means I’m alive and able to feel sensations.
After what Chase said to me at my locker, I’d rather not be near anyone anyways. He made me feel dead inside, disgusting and vile. I never want to be near him again if I don’t have to be.
Thank goodness we only have a few months left of this hell-hole and I can escape. Though I’m not looking forward to separating as sisters. With me going to culinary school, Low to law school and Vee studying music, we won’t be near each other.
I am super excited to meet my first supernatural. If it lands me outside of this pathetic town with a mate, I’d jump right on him for the best ride of my life.
The sad thing about being a human is that we can’t leave our colony unless our soulmate finds us. It doesn’t matter the race of supe either; vampires, werewolves, lycans, fae, dragons, phoenixes, elves, trolls, goblins, bears or even tigers, a human must go with their mate.
They all surround us to keep the peace. Making sure that no one destroys the last of us. It’s been said that children born from a human and supernatural bring a unique advantage to the genetic world. The children always take after the supernatural when it comes to abilities, which is why matings are allowed.
Father once told me that when the war was over and the supernaturals were deciding on what to do with my ancestors, there were groups that wanted us all executed so that we couldn’t mix our DNA with theirs. They said we have filthy blood. Sadly, there are still some creatures that still believe that today. I’m just thankful we are protected within our colony.
If I were to leave it without Mr. Sinclair’s permission, I’d be killed on sight, unless going to college. Everyone is allowed to attend college, but once it’s over, you must return to the colony. You can’t even wait a week to say goodbye to friends. No, the day you graduate is the day you return home.
“Look what we have here, gents,” Jeremy’s irritating voice interrupts my thinking.
What does he want now? Didn’t he embarrass me enough already?
“Hello, darling.” He squats directly in front of me with a wicked smirk. “I’ve missed you. You know I hate being away from my fiancée.”
Chase, Drew and Craig snicker behind him as they crowd around me. I don’t like this one bit. Four against one isn’t going to end well for me at all. Panic begins to set in as my heart quickens its pace. I can already feel my palms beginning to sweat.
“We aren’t engaged, Jeremy,” I say calmly, but I’m anything but calm.
He picks up my left hand and rubs his thumb over the stone and band. “This right here says we are, Ivy. The moment you said yes, you became mine. I don’t care if you were just playing along to get revenge or whatever sick twisted plan you and your sisters concocted together. Once we graduate, you will be mine for the rest of our lives.” Jeremy moves forward, breathing directly onto my lips as he plants his hands and knees on each side of my body, caging me in.
I don’t like this one bit!
Trying to wiggle away from him doesn’t work. He just slides further up my body until he is sitting on my lap.
“It doesn’t work that way, Jeremy. I’m not marrying you and if I could take this damn ring off, I would. I know you had a fae bewitch it somehow. No doubt with the help from your father,” I spit out, losing my cool.
If he wants me to act all scared and innocent, he is in for a surprise. I’ll fight until my dying breath.
“I told you I’d have you, Ivy, and I will. This ring means you’re mine, and I take what is mine. If you think your sisters will save you this time, you’re wrong. Once we graduate, they will have no say in our marriage. If you’re a good little wife, I’ll even allow you to see them once a month. If not, you won’t see the light of day for weeks. Are we clear?” Jeremy leans close enough that I can taste his foul-smelling breath. Does the man not know how to brush his teeth!
A rage unlike anything I’ve ever felt surges to the front of my mind. It demands I take action and get this creep away from me. The ring on my finger burns as Jeremy touches it, coating it in his vile germs.
“Like hell I’ll obey you,” I hiss. “Not in this lifetime, Jeremy. I’d rather kill myself than be your f**k-toy. There is no way you will get me to any altar willingly. And I’m going to college outside of our colony. You can’t stop me either as it’s against the laws to hold a person back from going to school.” Shoving at his chest does no good. It only pisses him off when my knee hits his groin.
I’m definitely going to burn my clothing after this.
Crying out, I punch him in the face. A tiny spot of blood forms on his lip from the ring. I don’t see it at first, but a line appears on his cheek where the ring must have snagged the skin. It’s going to leave a nasty cut by the looks of it as it slowly parts and blood begins to trickle down. I didn’t hit him that hard…
Jeremy sits back on my lap as he touches his cheek. With a sinister grin, he wipes some of the blood up and tastes it. “I can’t wait to sample yours, my sweet Ivy. I bet your p***y is even tastier. May I try it?” With a blink of my eyes, my body is forced all the way down to the ground as Chase and Drew hold my arms to the side and Jeremy begins to unbuckle my jeans.
Screaming, I cry out for my sisters.
“You will learn to love this as my wife, Ivy. You will obey me! You’re mine! Do you hear me, Ivy Sinclair?” he grits through his teeth as his eyes stare down at me with evil intent. “I’ll kill anyone who gets in my way of owning you.”
The sound of fabric ripping barely registers through my foggy mind as I start to thrash around. Craig is at my feet holding them apart for Jeremy to gain access to my privates.
“Hey, you fuckers! Let go of my sister!” Low’s voice sounds like an avenging angel. She swoops in and kicks Chase in the head, knocking him to the side.
Next is Drew as Vee jabs him in the throat before bringing his head down harshly onto her knee.
With my hands free, I’m able to fight Jeremy off as Low and Vee pounce on Craig. His screams of pain echo in my head as he tries to push my sisters off him.
Jeremy sneers down at me. “This isn’t over, Ivy. I will have you no matter what. You will be my wife by the time we graduate. Like I said before, I’ll kill anyone in my path to gaining you, even your pathetic sisters and parents.” He goes to stick his hand down my panties, but I’m able to stop him by stabbing him in the eyes with my thumbs, making him wail in agony.
Both Low and Vee go to yank him off me, but an unknown force shoves Jeremy off of me with the strength of ten human males. Unfortunately, I don’t have time to fathom what just happened as Jeremy thrashes around.
Jeremy is covering his eyes as he screams in pain and I stomp on his crotch. “I will never be your wife, Jeremy. If you come at me again, I’ll destroy you. Do you understand me!? Everything you hold dear to you will be gone. I don’t care what I have to do to ruin you, I will.” Leaning down to him, chest heaving with the terror of what was about to happen, I sneer in his ear, “You touch me again and I’ll castrate you. You f****d with the wrong sisters, asshole.”
The moment I step back, both Vee and Low turn to Jeremy and bring a foot up, smashing his head between their shoes. I’m slightly shocked he isn’t dead, but he does drop to the ground, unconscious.
I don’t realize I’m shaking until Low and Vee come and put an arm each around my waist to help me walk.
“You two will live to regret touching us,” Drew snarls, blood dripping from his nose as he sits up. I believe Vee broke it. “And little Ivy will soon enough learn who her master is.”
Vee doesn’t like Drew talking, so she twists her body, lifting her leg up and spinning in a circle, kicking him in the face, knocking him out for good this time.
Fear seeps into my bones at what we just did. It won’t matter to Mr. and Mrs. Sinclair. We attacked their son and his best friends, and they will see us thrown out of school, if not the colony.
Vee and Low drag me to our vehicle without issue as I’m not even paying attention. I’m lost in my mind of what horrible things Mr. Sinclair is going to do to us.
A cold shiver races down my spine at the thought of being married to Jeremy for the rest of my life. I’ll have no say in any aspect of my life. He will control my every movement, my every breath. If I do not escape, I’d find a way to off myself rather than live forever with a maniac like him and his family.
Staring down at the ring, I try to take it off for the millionth time, but it’s stuck. Nothing besides sawing my own finger off will remove it! Mentally screaming, I tug on the damn thing even though I know it’s useless.
Why me? Why does that stupid, pathetic bastard want me?
“Hey! Ivy!” Vee shakes me until my eyes blink away the haziness. “You want to talk about what happened?” Her heartwarming eyes don’t hold pity, but comfort. She is here for me if I need her.
Which I do at this moment. With how our car is built, we no longer have to wear seatbelts like the humans did in the past. We can be hit with a train and live, so a seatbelt is pointless. Fae magic is where it’s at. Lying down, I place my head in her lap before curling my legs up into a fetal position.
Sucking in a sob, I clutch onto Vee’s shirt as the tears start to fall. “I’ll die before I ever marry him,” I sputter, completely falling apart. Everything in me shatters. There is nothing to hold all the emotions in that are barreling down a massive mountain. They crash, break, and burn up.
Nothing matters more than getting home and putting my clothes on top of a flame, then scrubbing my body red in the ultrasonic shower.
“What I want to know is how Jeremy flew off you,” Low demands hysterically. “You don’t have any magic, Ivy. None of us do, and it’s against the law for supernatural beings to be in our colony without everyone being notified one has found a mate.”
Shaking my head against Vee’s stomach, I don’t answer Low as I don’t care how Jeremy was taken off me. It happened. End of story.
Time flies by on the drive home. By the time they are heaving me out of the car and into the house, I’m a lifeless, listless body. I’m so far gone I don’t even realize I’m standing under the ultrasonic shower until the silence creeps in on me.
Sitting on the cold tile flooring of the shower, I rest my head against the wall. Low and Vee are sitting outside the shower, their shadows visible as their backs are up against the glass.
“Ivy?” Vee asks softly when I stop dry-heaving all my guts out.
“I’m here.” I can’t say I’m fine, as I’m not. Not even close. If they didn’t arrive when they did, I’d have been raped in front of everyone. I’m not strong like them. I don’t know how to be brave and put up a powerful front.
“You don’t have to prove anything to us. And we are the only ones that matter. f**k all the kids at school. They know nothing and are sheep, always following Jeremy like lost little pups,” Low sneers with such hate, I’m surprised the house isn’t on fire.
There is a pause. I’m not sure if they are silently talking to each other as I can’t hear anything. All I feel is hollow inside. I’m sure the rage will come, but right now I’m dead.
“We have a plan, Ivy. I’m not sure if you’re down with it, but it’s what Low and I are going to do to Jeremy. He will know it’s us, which means there will no doubt be consequences, but it needs to happen. We just need to know if you are down for whatever,” Vee pleads softly, her voice the voice of reason between the three of us right now.
Being the oldest, she has her moments.
Do I want to exact revenge for what he did to me?
If it gets me away from Jeremy for the rest of my life, I’m definitely down for it. Since we will be caught, Mr. Sinclair will have to kick us out, and since there is only one place to go, we would be given permission by not only our colony, but the one where our Uncle lives. It will be perfect.
Jeremy will lose his mind, no doubt; they will think we would never leave this perfect paradise for humans. The entire Sinclair family is off their rockers and everyone knows it. They all deserve to be wiped out for their crimes against their own kind, but who is going to do it? No one, as they are all afraid of being kicked out of our colony and killed as they won’t have permission to leave.
“Yes, I am.”
Jeremy will wish he never met the Collier sisters.
