‘Are we in?’ My voice comes out low and forced as I come running down the stairs with Lucy hot on my tail.
4: 30 Pm
The wall-sized digital clock blinks at us.
I stop only a step away from Rudransh who is scrutinizing the big yellow envelope with a frown on his face. His brown locks fall on his forehead in a heavy mess and his lips are still plump with all the biting and nibbling I have done some hours back.
The recollection makes me turn crimson. I fidget with my fingers clueless about my reaction. My mouth is parched dry. The heartbeats are going wild.
It feels like my teenage days.
What have you done, Sarva? It was not part of your plan. How can you give in so easily? Now things are going to get complicated. I curse myself with every bit of colourful vocabulary I can think of.
Are you concerned about the past? I am worried about the future! Nagini flaunts her diplomacy skills arrogantly.
I make a mental note to question Lord AnantNath over granting me the world’s stupidest Nagini available. She has to have the worst of the times.
Ignorance is an i***t’s jewel. She guffaws at my pathetic state. Her confidence annoys me more. It is because the serpent knows it ain't her but only my doings. She was quiet as a chicken while I was going wild as a wind.
I was the one who lost control. I was the one to jump in the wolf's arms. I was the one who kissed him back with equal desire. I am the one smitten with his charm.
Yes, right. You kissed him! She teases leisurely as if we are not standing in an enemy’s den who'll kill us the moment our identities are revealed but strolling down an amusement park.
More like f**k us before killing. The wolf is s*x-sick. Luna has to keep him off for weeks now. He won’t hold anymore. He will do it all with…you.
I lower my eyes on my flip-flops. Nagini is right. He won’t keep himself anymore. In less than a week, I will have to drop my guard and allow him to take as much pleasure as he wants. I intend on keeping the facade on,. I will have to keep playing Luna for a while.
I knew it would happen, I thought I was mentally prepared. Things seem different now.
‘I do not know.’ The deep voice answers my question. It immediately brings a wave of unknown pleasure to my body. My body quivers.
Lucy stays a couple of steps back as a natural habit. She smiles at me knowingly. I wish we were alone so I could have let out my emotions by bullying her and reprimanding her for a slight mistake. It would have helped me channel my emotions. I often did it while in Samrajya. I am sure it will help in Cape Comorin too.
Oh, how I wish Avika was here. She might have been my salvation in the moment of despair.
Speaking of her, I will have to think of a way to bring her here. With her around, half of my troubles are already sorted. She can be a pain in the ass sometimes, but her rational thoughts help me get a way out of trouble.
‘Find out! What are you waiting for?’ A masculine voice announces.
I look up to find Ronit sauntering in with Scarlet in the tail. He walks around the couch and flops on it. Crossing one leg over the other, he motions Scarlet to sit beside him. Poor she-wolf obliges without a word.
He wraps his arm around her shoulder and brings her closer. His fingers cascade down her freely flowing hairs. Complementing her name, the she-wolf has enviously gorgeous red hair on her head, unlike Luna’s dark ones.
She is drop-dead pretty. Nagini adores, peering intense scrutiny over her feeble features which she or I could not do while in the dark two nights back.
She is at least a foot shorter than her mate Ronit. Hourglass figure, bright green eyes, small nose, naturally pink lips, and pale complexion—Scarlet, without a doubt, is a diva. But she deserves none of Ronit’s dominance.
I have not chatted with her for long to find out about her intellect, but she is a trophy in Ronit’s arms. That is for certain.
Maybe Rudransh is expecting me to be the same. A timid, obedient mate who gets up and sits out at the motion of his fingers. I gag at the thought.
In the past two days, I have been accustomed to the little bits of the Alpha’s habits and I can tell from experience that he ain’t anything like his brother.
Reallyyyyyy….The hoe is back.
Yes, only two days! I retort.
I am not only impressed by the standard of living in Alpha City, I am astonished at how easy it is to accommodate everything. How easy it is to be around him.
It has been two days since the game to wrap up its glorious first innings, whilst the second inning stays scheduled on May 31 as has been announced. However, the promised letter was delayed owing to some last-minute modifications that stayed expectedly in Rudransh’s hands.
‘What are you doing here again?’ Rudransh groans out his annoyance, pinning his brother under a hot glare.
‘What do you mean? I am here for moral support. Dad has come up with some quizzy strategy to choose the most suitable instead of coming up with a name directly. Mine will take some time to reach me. I thought why not know it all from yours?’ Ronit explains, shrugging his shoulders. He winks at his glaring brother before he pecks Scarlet’s cheeks lightly, who visibly shudders.
‘Speaking of it, why are you still here? Why aren’t you back yet? Doesn’t the UAE administration need you?’ Rudransh snaps.
He flops himself on the other vacant couch. The letter is still in his hands. I watch the drama unfolding with open eyes, unsure as to what to make out of it.
True, Ronit is being impossibly nosy here.
On the said morning, Rudransh and I were waiting for the notification. Ronit and his mate were with us all the time. Fortunately, none came.
Instead, Shantanu came running with a worrisome frown on his face. Ronit’s beta was shortly behind him. Both of them had an official tablet which they shoved in their alpha’s faces.
It was a further postponement announcement by the Ministry. Ronit was furious, both in frustration and anticipation. The brothers were in hot water till then and the postponement only messed it up. He left shortly and did not show up for two days.
Now he is back just to know what he might be told otherwise. Something has to be missing here that I cannot see. Something fishy!
‘So? I am here on vacation. I do not take-offs often. I am sure I have a capable councillor who can handle all of it for some days. Dad was all widely for this. He could have announced the rules, expectations, and eligibility on the game night itself. He just wasted away the twenty minutes over nothing but thanking every f*****g s**t out there. It has to be intriguing to hover over our heads.’ Ronit reasons while running a hand over his mate’s arm.
He looked pained. Any minute, he would get up, rip his and Scarlet’s clothes off and take her right there without a second thought. He rolled his eyes heavenwards and took a deep breath. Beside him, Scarlet looked terrified over his losing wits.
‘It might be essential. The decision is crucial. We will have to wait for two days only. It’s okay. So long as it concerns the safety, integrity, and prosperity of our nation, it’s fine. Let’s hope for something rational. Dad has always been perfect in his shoes.’ Rudransh nods while I gape at him.
How can he be so nonchalant about such a serious matter? Was he not looking forward to it? It could change his life and position. He could become the most influential and significant Alpha of his nation and above the rest of the forty-nine serving Alphas of various regions or he could be nothing but a puppet in his brother or any other Alpha’s hands.
His character is definitely far from the kind I had in my mind. It screams mystery, he as a whole being is. At least to say, I am fascinated.
His calmness screams the tough shell he’d like to c***k. It meant he could not be compelled and overpowered. He cannot be provoked into something. His deliberations and deep thinking will be a challenge for me. It makes me less powerful and in no control whatsoever.
I hate moments like this when I am not in control.
‘Whatever! Just open the goddamn letter and get over this.’ Ronit rolls his eyes.
It freezes Rudransh. He looks assuredly between me and Shantanu. We both nodded but he wouldn’t budge an inch no matter what.
The letter is tightly clutched in between his fingers. His face is zoned out and ghastly pale. He kind of looks funny. Had it been any other occasion, I would have enjoyed his crestfallen face, slumped shoulders, and parted mouth.
However, it is not the right time to mock him when I am burning with anxiety.
‘For God’s sake, open the letter, Rudransh!’ I urge him impatiently. He is being unreasonable to an Alpha.
The spacious living room of the Alpha Mansion, much to my dismay, is crowded with ten house helpers, around a dozen guards, the gardener, caretakers, drivers, and administrative personnel who all appear and disappear as they are pleased.
I have not ignored the troublesome glances and hushed murmurs in the corridors. The contest news has spread like fire in the forest and everyone looks forward to seeing which Alpha will become Cape Comorin's destiny.
The brothers are only making a scene potential for gossip with extra spice and paneer toppings.
‘You open it!’ Rudransh pants in a trembling voice. His shaking hands thrust the crumpled official letter into my palms as he looked at me with the hope of a kid expecting a Christmas present from his folks.
‘Oh, come on!’ Ronit throws his fists in the air.
I look at him like he has lost his mind and then at his brother, who has lost his wits.
I? Why? How? For AnantNath’s sake, he is the ruler and the business belongs to him. King Vachaspati wouldn’t let me touch any surface that'd be confidential and concerned with the mass of subordinates. How can I open the circular which is meant to be read by him?
My wandering eyes land on Lucy, the household, who stares at me unblinkingly. It moves further on Shantanu, who is nonchalant about the ordeal, and at last, settles on Tarifa, who smiles at me encouragingly. None of them find Alpha’s suggestions absurd!
What the hell is wrong with these people? Nagini is as perplexed as I am.
As if I know!
‘I?’ I ask him unsurely. Eyeing the letter in my hands and then him. ‘Isn’t it meant to be for you? You should read it.’ I point out the obvious.
He might have forgotten it. Or maybe he is mistaken for the recipient. It could be from Luna’s family. It has to be or why would he let me in? I read the sender’s credentials for confirmation.
Alpha Rudransh Shenoy
The Alpha Mansion
44/ 98 Mahatma Gandhi Nagar
Alpha City, Cape Comorin.
It was meant to be delivered here.
From:
Alpha King Atharva,
Head Of The State Office
The Parliament of Cape Comorin
Cape Comorin
The address’s accuracy is unquestionable. The seal at the corner is impacted with imperials.
It is from the office of the Head of the State.
‘Just open it, Aaradhya. Have you both conspired against my slow and painful death?’ Ronit snaps, pissed.
With one last look at Rudransh and trembling, I tore the envelope open, still digesting my Alpha’s reaction.
He trusts me.
