Tate shook his head as he walked past yet another homeless man sitting on a worn blanket with a cup in front of him. Hope springs eternal, even for them. “And for me,” he murmured, wondering what the chances were he and this Lay person would be in the same area at the same time. One thing he did know, from asking a couple of police officers patrolling the mall, the highest density of homeless adults hung around the area from downtown to up toward the stadium. “Because of the availability of shelters, and food kitchens,” one officer explained. Not that they seem to be using them at the moment, but that’s probably because people are leaving work, which could be good for panhandling.
