Alpha Stuart POV
I am the alpha of the Stealth Pack and we are renowned for our power and influence. When the royal family fell years ago times were tough for a while until the rebellion was squashed and a form of peace enveloped the nation of Yugo once again.
While my pack and I are not technically part of the nation of Yugo, our border is next to the nation and the former king established a treaty with us. On the night of the fall of the royal family we found Joe and Abbie hiding in the forest.
The story that Joe told us was that their parents were servants in the royal castle and they had been out all day and fell asleep, when they woke up they saw the castle burning and ran. While there was credence to the story, I also had my suspicions, so I did a bit of digging and I think I know who they really are. But I have no way to prove it, and if I just come out and ask them I am sure Joe will lie.
Abbie has grown up to be a very young and beautiful pup but when she turned fifteen her wolf did not come forward, which makes me think my hunch is correct. A royal does not get a wolf, instead they are gifted a power to help them rule. If they are of kind heart then they will get a power that will help their nation flourish, and if they are evil then they will get a power of destruction.
However, the thorn in my side is that Abbie smells like a wolf and she has not exhibited any powers awakening yet. Some of the adult members of the pack want to run her out or throw her out, but as a pack we owe her protection no matter whether she is wolfless or not.
I am brought out of my thoughts by the sound of someone approaching my desk.
“Alpha, is everything ok?” Asks Kathryn, one of my warriors who I have tasked with watching the Ashley siblings.
“Any news to report?” I ask.
“Not really. Joe continues to work hard in his job, stashing away every penny he can. What he is planning I am not sure of, but I would not be surprised if they are planning on running.” Kathryn reports.
“What do you mean? Why would they run?” I ask.
“Their cabin borders this pack and the nation of Yugo, it would be easy and quick for them to make a run for it. And the bullying of Abbie continues to increase daily, it has got to the point where she is being physically hit and tormented everyday. She has been practically made into the punching bag and slave of the pack.”
“What do you mean, slave of the pack?” I ask outraged. There is no way a minor of this pack should be put into that position, not ever. There is no reason or justification for it, I will have to have a word with my son when he gets home from school this afternoon.
“Her peers hit her and beat her up, they did so a few days ago to the point where she was barely conscious. The only way they agreed to get help for her was if she agreed to become a slave, and in fear of her life she did.”
“But it is not enforceable.” I shout.
“Sadly it is alpha, she was forced to sign a contract with the instigator of the attack.”
“And who was that?”
“Your son and his girlfriend alpha.” Kathryn replies.
I see red, that stupid idiotic son of mine is going to get such a beating when he gets home tonight. Not even his mother will be able to save him, how dare he do such a despicable thing? And in my pack? I thought I had taught him better, but clearly I have not.
“Is there anyway of getting the contract and destroying it? Or overruling it?” I ask.
“Sadly no, both parties entered into it willingly and its is a blood pact. The only way for it to be ended is if the clause is activated.” Kathryn says sadly.
“And what is the clause?” I ask nervously.
“That she finds her mate or ends up becoming a higher rank than your son and his girlfriend.” Kathryn explains.
“I see.” So this could work out ok, after all if Abbie is who I think she is then she will out rank him in a few years. It just means that I need to put some protection in place for her until then, as well as hoping and praying that my stupid son doesn’t exploit the contract.
Although my main concern is his girlfriend Mindy, she is a vicious vixen and one that has a vendetta against Abbie for some unknown reason. She was why the pack turned on Abbie, but by the time I had discovered that it was already too late.
“Why are you so calm? This goes against everything you stand for.”
“Because of the prophecy.” I simply say, not bothering to elaborate further.
“Go and continue to watch the siblings, but now I give you permission to interfere if you deem it necessary. Do not let them get exploited any more than they already have, especially Abbie.” I order Kathryn.
She nods before she leaves my office to carry out my orders.
The prophecy. I was hoping not to give anyone a hint into what I suspect, but that could not be helped with the turn of the recent events.
There is a prophecy regarding the nation of Yugo, that a great tragedy will befall the nation and bring it to its knees and there the nation will stay for fifteen years until its true ruler rises to take back their throne.
The first part of the prophecy has already occured, the previous rulers of the nation met a tragic end at the hands of haters. The night of the incident etched into the history of the world as a whole family was destroyed and the nation really was brought to its knees in mourning and heartache.
But there was hope, there is still a belief held by the nation that there was a survivor and that they will return to take back the throne.
The true ruler is one of a kind, someone no one has ever seen before or will again. They are known as the phoenix princess as they rise from the ashes of their past and tormented childhood to become a powerful ruler.
However, there is another side of the prophecy that has us all worried. The phoenix ruler can go one of two ways- they can either be the savior of the nation of Yugo or the downfall of the supernatural realm. It all depends on the strength of the individual and the way the decision they decide to make.
I think that I know who the phoenix princess is, but I have no proof. the dates and timings match up, and we are about to enter the fifteenth year after the catastrophe. And the worrying thing is that if I am right, then my pack may have unknowingly signed its own death warrant. As well as the death warrant of the supernatural realm.
I let out a deep sigh. Great. Just great.
