Lucas POV
I was overwhelmed with work, this whole National pack contest was crazy. But I'm even crazier since I made it up. And now I'm stuck as its host.
I looked at the list of names I had, this year's going to be crowded. Most of the invited packs had accepted the invitation.
I knew why the contest had attracted so many people every time we did it. Because people saw their chance to meet their mates.
This is the real reason I started to do it in the first place. I didn't want to call it some sugary name like a Mating ball or something, so I come up with the idea of a national contest. After the Alpha King approved it, we started to organize it annually. Then we saw there is no point, the number of mated couples wasn't significantly bigger than the year before and we decided to do it every other year.
I didn't find my mate though, nor did my beta and gamma. I'm 25 years old and I’m tired of looking for one. If it weren't for the unrest feeling that If I choose a mate and the destined one did appear, there would be someone hurt for sure, I would have picked one already.
But I finally gave up. I didn't want to wait for more. Who knows If there was a mate for me at all.
I've been thinking for months and I may have the perfect Luna. I mind-linked my beta and told him to come to the office. His name was Liam, he was the same age as me and also one of my best friends.
“Alpha.” He lowered his head. It was a sign of respect and a must when you are presented in front of the Alpha, but we quickly left behind all of the formalities.
“I made a decision and I want you to be the first to hear it.” I took a breath and spilled it.”I decided to choose a mate. And I already chose the she-wolf that would be your Luna.” I paused for a moment.” I picked Jasmine".
Liam eyed me carefully, then he sighed too. “Are you one hundred percent sure?”
“Yes, I am. I thought about it for months. I'm tired of searching for my destined mate. What If she's dead? Or If she is mated already? I just want to focus on my pack duties and go on with my life.”
“As your friend, I'm not sure this is the best decision for you, but it's up to you and I'll always stand behind your back. Are you sure about Jasmine though?”
I leaned in my chair, my hands playing with some pen. I thought about Jasmine – she was my commander’s daughter. Beautiful, with blonde hair, violet eyes. She was the beauty of the pack. We've grown up together and everyone knew her as the kind and pretty flower among us. She was good-natured and smart.
The only problem was that I didn't feel anything for her. I've been in her presence many times and I was completely untouched. A week ago I kissed her, after dinner in my commander house, but I felt nothing. She had any other qualities I could want in a Luna though. And that’s why I chose her.
“I think she would be a good Luna and that’s all I could want now.”
“And…what If you meet your destin….”
“My decision is final. If I take Jasmine for my mate, I'll be loyal to her. Even If it means to reject my own mate.”
“And what If she meets her mate? And If she wants him?”
“I would expect the same loyalty of her. If she agree to become the Luna, she would have to be ready for all the consequences. And whatever happens, she must be loyal.”
“So…when do you plan on asking her? After the contest I assume?”
My eyes darted. “I already asked her. And before that, I spoke with her father about my intentions.”
He looked at me surprised.
“Well… I congrats you then. I'm sure she will agree. But I think you should have waited for the end of the contest. It's just after 2 weeks. It could have been your year.”
I put the pen on the desk.”I doubt so.”
“Alpha, there is a woman on the west borderline. We're waiting for your command.” one of my guards mind-linked me.”You know what to do with the rogues, even If they’re females. What makes it different?”
“She is not a she-wolf, Alpha. She is a human and she says she wants to see you.”
