Diego did his best to appear disinterested as he discreetly observed from behind a curtain everything that happened on the stage as the alphas were auctioned off one right after the other. He wasn’t surprised when some omegas ended up with two, three, or even four alphas each. Then he stiffened slightly when Rohan’s name was called. The bidding started fast and furious, and Diego was delighted on Rohan’s behalf when the figure reached three hundred thousand dollars because eighty percent of the money would go to Rohan, with the auction house taking the remaining twenty percent.
“One million.”
Diego almost choked in shock when he heard that, and the bid had come from none other than Percy. He shouldn’t have been as astonished as he was. He could tell Percy really liked Rohan, and the feeling was certainly reciprocated. However, he didn’t expect Percy to bid such a high price for Rohan’s company.
“One million one hundred thousand,” one of the other omegas countered.
“Two million,” Percy responded in a calm tone of voice.
Diego gulped, and he wasn’t the only person who was taken aback by Percy’s generosity. The highest bid of the evening so far was one and a half million dollars.
“Two million going once,” the auctioneer said while darting his eyes all around the room. “Two million going twice. Sold to Mr. Percy Watts! Congratulations, sir. Please approach one of our staff at the end of the auction so you and Rohan can sign the contract together.”
Diego grinned when Rohan returned to the back room. “Hot damn! You lucky son of a b***h! Percy must really like you.”
Rohan’s expression remained neutral, but he was obviously elated because Diego could smell the overpowering scent of joyful pheromones coming from his fellow alpha. “Thanks. Good luck to you. I have to find Maggie now. She’s the one in charge of my application.”
“Sure thing, man. See you around.”
After that, Diego watched as a few other alphas were ushered onto the stage. Everything happened really fast. Soon, there were only a handful of alphas left in the waiting room, including Diego. He was slightly anxious and also thrilled when he heard the auctioneer calling his name. He grinned widely a few moments later when the bidding began. The initial figure was one hundred thousand dollars and every bid added a further fifty thousand dollars minimum. It was the same process as all of the other alphas.
“Five hundred and fifty,” one of the betas said while raising his right hand.
“One million.”
Diego gasped and stared at Percy because the omega hadn’t seemed to be interested in any of the other alphas, except Rohan. He definitely didn’t think Percy was into him. Then another omega raised her hand.
“One million and five hundred thousand.”
“Two million,” Percy countered.
The entire room fell quiet. Even the auctioneer looked stunned. It probably wasn’t a common occurrence for an omega to bid for two alphas at such a high price.
“Two million going once. Two million going twice. Sold to Mr. Percy Watts!” the auctioneer declared, and for the next several moments, Diego was too astonished to move until the auctioneer nudged him. “Mr. Lawson, you may get off the stage now.”
“Oh, right. Thank you, sir.”
Diego rushed back into the waiting room, and he was taken aback when he came face to face with Rohan. He sniffed at Rohan’s scent, and was relieved when he didn’t detect any resentment or jealousy coming from the other alpha. He was an alpha himself, and he was aware all alphas were notoriously territorial and possessive. He wasn’t frightened of Rohan, but it would make his life so much more difficult if he and the other alpha got into a pissing contest day in and day out while they fought to assert their dominance over each other. He would rather they got along. Diego smiled when Rohan offered his right hand to shake.
“Congratulations.”
Diego grabbed Rohan’s hand. “Thanks, man. We will have to live together with Percy for at least a year. Let’s play nice.”
A year was the minimum length of any contract. However, all of the parties involved had the option of extending the length of the contract if they agreed to do so.
“Absolutely.”
“Cool. Besides, I really like you. You seem like a great guy.”
“Thanks. I like you, too. You’re one of the nicest alphas here by far.”
Diego laughed. “Thanks for the compliment. I think.”
“You’re welcome. Let me find Oscar. He’s my handler.”
“All right. See you later.”
After that, Diego walked away from Rohan. He had to speak to Oscar and make sure the contract he would be signing along with Percy was exactly the way he wanted it. He hoped Percy would agree to the conditions stipulated within the contract. Or the omega would at least be open for negotiation. Otherwise, it might make things awkward between them.
