Chapter 9 Carson’s arm ached a little. That was the first thing that he thought of as he attempted to open his eyes. He could also hear the beeping sound of the machine, but he couldn’t be bothered. He was more concerned about Jonas now that he was gradually regaining his consciousness. He began to remember bits and pieces of everything that occurred after the ribbon-cutting ceremony. There was that glint of metal from a close range that reflected the light from the sun at a certain angle, the sight of the dart that had been aimed toward Jonas, and then his fear for the life of the man he loved right before his mind had gone completely blank.
