7. No Mates

1776 Words
Liv   A short purple-haired lady comes and flashes me to what she refers to as my father’s state. I assumed that it was his house before she gave me the news. Keyword: assumed. Since, well, I know nothing about the man, not that that’s my fault. Why must everything be so messed up? Why am I not like Cali who has normal parents and will for sure have one mate? “Cordy, where is my mother?” I ask as I storm into the house. Cordy is drinking by himself in the hall. He is so weird.  “Good morning to you too... Isn’t it too early to act like a brat? It’s 6:30 a.m. Your mother is with your father,” Cordy answers in his typical bored tone of voice.  I sigh, knowing that they wouldn’t call my mother for me. I have to wait and what is a better way to wait than by getting more sleep when it’s so freaking early.  “Where is Lea?” I ask. “Sleeping,” Cordy says tiredly. “Take me to her... please.” I sigh. “That’s a miracle,” Cordy mutters under his breath at my unusual politeness towards him.  I frown. Heck, I don’t like him AT ALL, and I have my reasons. He normally ignores mom’s questions and pleas and just walks around telling us what to do like a pompous robot. I also know that in the past he did something quite bad to my mom. I don’t remember exactly what, since I was very little when it happened. But I have a vague memory about something unsettling, and I know that he meant no good.  Cordy takes me to Lea’s room. I close the door and look down at my plain outfit. I change to my cozy pajamas, noticing that Elric didn’t conjure me any underwear. “What a lazy guy,” I mutter to myself. I lay down and cuddle with my baby sis. She smiles sweetly in her sleep.  Well, I can work on seducing mate number two later. I so need a well-deserved nap and some dreams about a mind-blowing kiss and a certain pair of full lips.  ~ * ~  3rd Person P.O.V.   A few hours later, Mel goes to wake her youngest daughter up. She’s surprised to see Liv sleeping there beside her little sister.  “Liv,” she calls softly.  Liv wakes up and looks at her mother. “Mom?” she answers sleepily. “I didn’t expect to see you here, I heard you went to see King Elric... What happened? Are you okay?” Mel asks, concerned. “I’m fine. Can we talk later? I’m kind of in the middle of something.” she says, yawning. “Sweetheart, it’s 11 a.m. You, sleepyheads, should wake up anyway,” Mel says, looking at Liv and Lea.  “Oh,” Liv says, “then let’s go home,” she adds, standing up. Mel chuckles, “Okay, not so slow, nor so fast. We can go after lunch.” “Okay,” Liv shrugs. She doesn’t want to wait to put the next step of her plan into action, but she needs to eat. Her stomach growls, agreeing with her. She smiles at the sound.  “Sweetie, I talked to your father about what the Elf King did when you were sixteen.” Liv looks at her mom, surprised. Mel hasn’t ever talked to her mate, not as far as Liv knows. He hasn’t ever allowed Mel to listen to his voice, maybe because he is afraid of being identified. Totally paranoid, in Liv’s opinion. She knows that sometimes they communicated by writing letters, which would be romantic if it wasn't awful, considering the whole situation.  “What did he say?”  “He agreed that it was wrong. But he said that the Elf King means you no harm. He is your mate, sweetie, he wouldn’t harm you.”  “Yeah, I am not that sure,” Liv whispers under her breath.  “And I listened to his voice for the first time. It was magic.” Mel says, sighing dreamily. “Oh, my Goddess! Seriously? You deserve so much more! You can’t be content with so little mom! You need to demand more!” “I’ve tried Liv...” Mel mutters, looking into space.  “Keep trying until you get it!” Mel sighs, “Liv, it’s not that simple. I’m tired.” “Of course, you are, mom!” Liv hugs her mom. “Let’s wake the little sloth up.” She looks at the sleeping Lea, “and get some food.” she says, rubbing her hungry belly. ~ * ~ Later, they return back to their home in the Wizard King’s Realm. After eating and taking a much-needed nap, Liv goes to Cali’s house to get ready to seduce her next mate. Maybe my plan could use some improvement, like a little make-over, she thinks. Just after arriving at her friend’s place, Liv shares her plan with Cali. After hearing everything that her friend did and is planning to do, Cali is dumbfounded.  “It’s brilliant, I know,” Liv smirks.  Cali raises a brow at Liv, “Do you really think it’ll work?”  “They are males, it will work with one of them. There isn‘t a lot of mystery surrounding males.”  Cali shakes her head. “Well... I don’t think it’s that easy. Males aren’t the simple creatures you think they are.” Liv shrugs. “It’s worth a try. What’s the worst that can happen?” “You can irk three of the most powerful males.”  “They are my mates, they wouldn’t kill me... I guess.”  Cali rolls her eyes. “Yeah... but pissing off three powerful and super-dominant males is not that good.”  “What else can I do, Cali?”  “Accept the bond?” Cali suggests matter-of-factly.  “No!” Liv huffs lightly. “Why are you so hell-bent on not accepting the bond? A lot of people would die to have a mate.” Cali sighs deeply. She is one of those people. She has been dreaming about finding her soulmate since she was a little girl.  “I guess one could be manageable, but Heck, I HAVE THREE! But honestly, I don’t even want one. I will donate them.” Cali rolls her eyes, “You know that it doesn't work like that.” Liv sighs. Well, she knows that. But she doesn't know why the Goddess would give HER three mates while there were so many people much more willing to have a mate. She didn’t think that the Goddess would be such a prankster.  “Don’t think that I didn’t realise that you didn’t answer my question?”  “I don’t know why everyone thinks that a mate is always something good. That is so not true. Look at my mother, for example, the dude does not even show his face to her, and she is lost in love like a fool. It pains me to see her, a lovesick puppy… She is content, no, she is happy with the very little he gives her. She deserves so much more. She puts on a brave face, but I know she suffers, I know she cries herself to sleep sometimes.” Liv mutters as she looks into space.   Cali only sighs in response.  “And my mates didn’t start well, Cali. The Wizard pretty much put me in lockdown in a golden cage for almost two years. Red flags everywhere. He didn’t even visit me, so one couldn’t even say that he cared about me. He was just a possessive jerk. Mate number two, the Elf, well, he kind of attacked me when I was sixteen. And mate number three is the Devil himself. Having one of them is already 'damn Liv, you are unlucky'... But having three of them... Having three possessive, crazy mates, that by the way, hate each other, is not my idea of fun.” Liv adds.   “I guess you are right, but maybe if you give them a chance—” “I will break my heart and be stuck with them. This mate and marking thing is a forever deal, it is not like that I can one day just say, ‘sorry Mr. Overwhelming Possessive Mate, I am leaving. Don’t wait for me for dinner’.”  “But it also could be the best thing ever.” Cali remarks.  “Or the worst thing ever… Besides, I am eighteen, I haven't even started to live my life, you know? Having three dominant Kings on my heels means the opposite of being free and finding myself.”  “Liv, you’ve watched too many human movies. Seriously, who needs this whole thing when you have a mate, a soulmate? Humans are just doing so because they don’t have mates. In the supernatural world, things work differently…” “Maybe they just know better.” Liv shrugs Cali looks intently at her friend. “I think you are afraid, Liv.”  “Of course, I am, Sherlock. But I am not cowering, I am fighting back and choosing my own way.” “Oh Goddess, the rebel chick!”  “Yeah, I am giving the Fates the middle fin—” Liv starts.  Cali covers her mouth with a soft smack. “If the Fate Goddesses hear you, you will be in even bigger trouble, Liv”.  Liv sighs, “You get what I mean… How about Netflix and chill, a warm bath, and getting ready to seduce mate number two?” Cali laughs and asks jokingly, “Do you want me to bathe with you?” Liv raises her brow, “So now you are saying that you are my mate too?” “I will make some popcorn.” Cali chuckles.
