I got up early and prepared Mason for school trying my best to act like nothing happened. After dropping him off I drove straight to Emily’s workplace where she worked as an interior designer. I parked across the street waiting for her to arrive for work. Never would I have thought my life would reach such a point, here I was waiting for my best friend so I could confront her about having an affair with my husband. Just when I was about to change my mind and just go home, I saw her approaching the entrance. “Emily!”, I called and she turned to look at me and her eyes widened in shock, her face paling at my appearance. The air was thick with tension as I stood before her, my hands trembling with a mixture of anger and hurt. The weight of betrayal hung heavy in the air, suffocating the once-close bond we had shared. "Emily you backstabbing snake!" I yelled, my voice trembling with emotion. "How could you? How could you look me in the eyes for so many years and still sleep with my husband?”, “Can we talk someplace else?”, she took a step closer to me and asked as the people that were rushing to their workplaces began giving us curious gazes. “No, tell me!”, I screamed. She firmly gripped my hand and pulled me into the building and a storage supply room. “Don't touch me!”, I yelled and snatched my hand out of her grip. “Afraid that everyone will know what try of backstabbing b***h you are?”, "I... Lilly, I..." Emily stuttered, her voice faltering as she struggled to find the right words. "Don't," I interrupted, my tone sharp with pain. " you were supposed to be my friend, I trusted you. But you've been laughing in my face this whole time. is he the father of Noah and Mia?" Tears welled up in Emily's eyes as she met my gaze. "I'm so sorry, Lilly," she whispered, her voice choked with emotion. "It wasn't supposed to happen like this. I never meant to hurt you." Anger surged within me, hot and potent, but beneath it all lay a profound sense of betrayal. "But you did" I snapped. "How long?”, Emilly hung her head in shame, unable to meet my accusing gaze. "I know I've betrayed your trust, Lilly," she admitted her voice barely above a whisper. "But please, believe me when I say that I never meant to hurt you. I love Michael, and I love our children, but I never wanted any of this to come between us." “Your kids?”, I cynically laughed “ Kids that I couldn't give him?”, “It just happened and we fell in love but trust me it was way before you got married”, “Is that supposed to make me feel better?”, Guilt washed over her face and she began to speak. “When I found out I was pregnant with Nathan, I wanted to leave but Michael begged me to stay and told me he was going to take care of us “, she explained “Enough!”, I said and stopped her. “I have been nothing but a good friend to you and You should thank me”, she looked at me and said. “What did you just say? I should thank you. For sleeping with my husband and lying to me?”, "I've been the reason Michael stuck around for all these years. He wanted to leave you the moment I revealed I was carrying his child. But because you're my friend, and I knew how much you loved him, I couldn't bring myself to do that to you," she explained tearfully, her eyes reflecting the pain she felt. My heart ached with pain as I struggled to process Emily's confession. The woman I had once considered a sister had betrayed me in the worst possible way, tearing apart the fabric of our friendship with her deceit. "I did nothing but love and support you. You're worse than a viper Emily you and Michael can go to hell”, I sneered With a heavy heart, I turned and walked away, leaving behind the shattered remnants of the life I had once known. Outside, the cool morning air provided little solace as I grappled with the enormity of the betrayal. My heart shattered into a million pieces, and the pain of losing not only my husband but also my closest friend threatened to consume me whole. At that moment, I felt utterly alone, left to pick up the shattered remnants of my life and somehow find a way to move forward.
