“Did you hear that?” he says as he steps into Bennett’s bedroom. I curse inwardly and remain as still as I can. My palms are sweaty and my heart feels as if it is in my mouth. “I didn’t hear anything. Could be the neighbors,” Bennett says. “Better not be able to hear the neighbors with how much this place costs,” Kevin retorts, sounding disgusted. “Well, I didn’t hear anything,” Bennett replies, sounding annoyed. “What were you saying?” There is the sound of Kevin walking across the bedroom, as if he is still looking for the source of the noise. A suspicious bastard to be sure. I wish I could shrink myself. I am terrified he is going to open the closet door. “Have you heard from April?” Kevin suddenly asks. “She’s called a couple of times but I haven’t answered or called her back.”
