Elliot
I take Ashley to Sadie’s Burger, which is hands down the best burger joint in Wellspring. I’m so lucky I live close to here because I stop by several times a week.
Our waitress comes to give us some water, and I look up at her and recognize her instantly. Taylor. She was the girl that was in Devin’s apartment. And just seeing her just reminds me of him, with her…
It really shouldn’t matter to me. I don’t even know the guy, but I can’t help feeling disappointed in him. And a part of me just wishes I was her. I wish he would look at me the way he looked at her.
But she's a pretty, blonde haired blue eyed girl. I will never be as attractive as her. I will never be as desirable as her.
“Umm, are you into girls?” Ashley asks, interrupting my train of thoughts.
“No, not me. Just jealous of her good looks,” I confess.
“What? You have beautiful green eyes, and your long hair is so silky. And you have a great ass. You have nothing to be jealous about. I’m into girls, and I would totally screw you,” she tells me, looking me up and down.
I flip my hair flirtatiously. And we both laugh together.
We have a lot of fun talking, mostly about her crazy life. I found out she is a statistician, which I guess I could employ to do cost analysis for my business. I offered her a job. No strings attached.
“You definitely don’t have to sleep with me to get the job. I’m flattered by your advances, but I’m heterosexual, at least I think,” I tell her as I drove her home.
We laughed and said our goodbyes. And I drove home. I have just enough time to go home, cool down, and send Ashley some of the data regarding my project.
I walk up to my apartment, trying to squeeze past Devin’s apartment…which for some reason is missing a door?
If I hurry, he won’t see me. But I’m not so lucky because he steps out just as I pass his apartment. Shirtless.
Oh s**t. Damn, he is perfect. His muscles are bulging out, and I just want to run my hands over them.
“Hey,” he says. I look up at his face, which is just as perfect. I try to hide my reaction to him, hoping he didn’t see my temporary moment of weakness.
Devin
I finish my shower. Get in my dirty boxers and air dry as much as I can before putting my pants on.
I sit on the ground and stare out through the floor to ceiling window in the living room. It looks out to a little park that I’ve never seen before. With the sun shining down, it looks peaceful and serene.
And it is there I sit and try to think what I can do to improve my life. I can start off by furnishing this place, focusing on my studies, maybe taking an internship at our pack business.
If I can become a respectable member of society, maybe I can be the person my mate needs. If I need any pointers, I should just ask my older brother, Max. He is as close to perfect a persona can be.
I don’t want to bother him too much right now though, he found his mate and is busy keeping her safe because someone is threatening her life. He is, also, trying to win her heart. And from what I hear, she’s good at resisting his charms. He has a lot on his plate right now.
I can ask for help once he starts dating his mate. For now, I’m on my own.
I could ask my twin, but he wouldn’t provide anything useful. He is just as reckless as I am. I skip breakfast, lunch and just sit there thinking of my next steps.
The smell of jasmine suddenly comes through my missing front door. All the hairs on the back of my neck stand at attention.
“Mate,” Terri says in my head. I nod in agreement and hurry to my door.
And there I see her. She has on a skin fitting white blouse with a black skirt. It’s so form fitting that I can make out all her curves. I start salivating just looking at her. So f*****g sexy.
She looks at me and her eyes trail down my shirtless torso. I see her gulp before her beautiful eyes look back at me.
“Hey,” I say as I awkwardly attempt to start a conversation. I’ve never been this awkward.
“What happened to your door?” She asks.
“I accidentally broke it,” I say sheepishly.
“Well, you better get that fixed before Taylor comes back. As your neighbor, I rather not see what goes on in your apartment,” she tells me, disgusted. As she should be.
“Listen, I just got a little drunk last night. Nothing happened between Taylor and me. And nothing will. But are you really my neighbor?” I ask her, feeling hopeful that my mate lives right across from me.
“Unfortunately, I am. But I’m going to make it very easy for both of us, I will not acknowledge that you exist, and you will do the same. And then, perhaps, we can both forget we have to live across from each other.”
I sigh. Totally getting off on the wrong foot.
“Or maybe you could join me for dinner? There is a great burger joint across the street,” I start.
“I don’t want to be anywhere near you or your girlfriend, Devin. Please leave me alone,” she says as she walks away.
How does she know my name?
“Wait, what is your name?” I ask.
“That’s for me to know, and you to find out. I have no intention of helping you with the process, asshole,” she says.
I would say more but end up staring at her perfectly round ass as she walks into the apartment next door. The door shuts behind her as she disappears into her apartment.
I want her so bad. Ugh. I guess I need another cold shower. But as I’m about head into the shower, Aiden shows up with some pack members. They bring all the furniture I had in my old apartment and set everything up like I had.
“Are they going to fix your door?” Aiden asks after everyone leaves.
“Yes, they said it will be done today.”
“Do you need to be here when they do it?”
“I guess not.”
“Well, why don’t you shower and change? We can have dinner and get you some living and dining room furniture.”
“That sounds like just what I need right now.”
Without another word I go shower, change and head out with Aiden.
