Dianna's Point Of View
- Around 8 pm
While I finished up the paperwork for the night, I munched on some pistachio nuts that tasted so freaking good. By the door was my bodyguard Aries who looked like a statue as he never smile or move from his spot. I mean unless he's taking a bathroom break that lasts for less than 5 minutes.
His tall and muscular frame would stand by the door from 8 am each morning until 5 pm each evening. Sometimes until 11 pm if I'm working overtime. He has been my bodyguard for the last few years and he was a walking temptation. Most people may think that because I've known him for that long, we probably have some form of relationship or friendship.
Not at all.
This man stands by my door every day. He picks me up each morning for work, accompanies me to meetings, my lunch dates, and parties, and takes me back home. The funny thing is that he will always stand out in a room or wherever he goes. He's tall and handsome. His posture is always professional and he never slouches or sags his shoulder.
Tonight was a normal night. I was heading home to have dinner and on my way there, I will stop to get groceries. I was tired and craving baked potatoes and steak.
I started to pack up my stuff when it was a little past 8 pm. I realized that whenever I give Aries a specific time that I'll be leaving, that's when he expects me to leave. Usually, he would get annoyed and let me know that 'time is money' so I shouldn't be wasting his. His words can get really offensive and I never found myself responding back.
I understood why he would be upset because sometimes work would go overtime and I guess a part of me wanted to make sure that I'm always on time. That rarely ever happens because I'm a businesswoman and I tend to work overtime a lot.
I walked into the bathroom that was in my office and started to freshen up. I straightened the bun my hair was in and fixed my dress a little bit. When I walked out, I grabbed my bag and headed for the door.
"Are you ready?" Aries asked me. I smiled and nodded.
"Yes I am," I said to him
"Do you have everything?" He asked again
"Yes, I do. Come on, I know you're probably annoyed because of the timing" I said to him. He sighed deeply.
"Your phone is on the desk ma'am and your laptop as well" He reminded me. I turned around and looked at my table to see my laptop there. s**t.
"Yeah, I was thinking of leaving them here but I guess you're right. I should bring it home" I said quickly. I knew he didn't buy it.
"Do you need anything on our way?" Aries asked me
"Yes, I'd like to stop at the grocery store" I instructed
"Okay ma'am," He said to me.
After taking up my electronics, I locked my office door and headed to the elevator. The building was partially empty because work was over 3 hours ago. Usually, after hours, the car would be parked out front so we didn't have to go into the underground parking lot.
Aries opened the car door for me and I slipped him and he followed after me. While he directed the driver which direction to take for the grocery store. I looked over at him briefly and then went back to my phone.
No woman could deny how handsome and sexy Aries was. It puzzled me how he's still single and continues to ignore the women that throw themselves at him. Even men but he didn't seem to be into that either. If I'm being honest, I would have been interested if I was single.
"Aries, can I ask you something?" I asked him. He looked over at me and then back ahead.
"Yes, what is it?" He asked me
"I know that you're from Europe. Basically from what told me and your accent slips from time to time" I said to him
"Miss Hendrix, get to the point," He said to me.
"Right, sorry. I wanted to ask if you have any family or maybe a girlfriend back home" I told him. He looked at me.
"Why are you asking?" He questioned
"You seem so lonely sometimes and a few of my girlfriends are single," I said to him.
"I'm not interested in pointless relationships Miss Hendrix and your 'friends' aren't my type" He stated
"What do you mean my friends aren't your type? You're not into beautiful, confident, and caring women?" I asked him
"No. I'm not into easy women or women who are only into men because of their money and their good looks. Money and looks will vanish one day. I don't believe they have much to offer" He said. I frowned slightly.
"My friends are not easy and it's very bold of you to assume that" I pointed out.
"I'm not assuming, I know. Claire started dating the Italian bachelor because he was well known and in less than 3 months they broke up. Why? Because she didn't have anything to offer him aside from s*x. All she spoke to you about was their s*x life and you were annoyed yourself" He said to me.
He wasn't wrong. Claire did brag about her ex boyfriends and it was always about the s*x or the money. I didn't want to be the judgmental friend or made it seem like I was annoyed by it. A part of me just wanted her to feel safe talking to me about it but that wasn't the case.
What I didn't expect was for Aries to know that. He has always been around me where ever I go, including girls' night out. My friends would shamelessly flirt with him and he would ignore them. Now I know how he truly feels about them. A part of me was itching to know if he thought the same about me.
The rest of the drive to the grocery store was quiet. I kept my gaze focused on the window watching the cars go by. Not once did I think I needed his reassurance or his input but hearing that, made me want to hear what were his thoughts about me?
When we got to the store, he led me inside and I grabbed a basket to get whatever I need. I grabbed some steak and potatoes along with some seasoning. I went to the wine section and chose a bottle of red wine and then went to the checkout.
We head back to the car afterwards and Aries held the door open for me and then slid in next to me. I got on my phone when the car drove off and then he sighed deeply.
"Not because I see your friends like that, it doesn't mean I see you the same. You asked me a question and I answered truthfully. Sometimes I do wonder why you keep the friends you do but that's not my business" He said to me. My shoulders sag a little as I relaxed.
"They're not always like that. They don't always talk about men. At least not Carly" I said to him. He nodded and then fell silent again.
- The Same Night
About 20 minutes later, I was in the elevator heading up to my condo. I didn't have much to do tonight aside from looking over so papers for a meeting tomorrow afternoon. I decided that I'll invite Aries in for dinner with the hopes of him responding.
The truth is, I am a bit lonely since Chad is out of town and my friends have lives aside from partying on the weekends. Thinking about it, Chad only called last night which is kind of odd. He left yesterday morning and should be coming back tomorrow night.
"Aries, would you like to accompany me for dinner?" I asked him.
"I'm sorry, what?" He asked. The elevator doors opened and he let me walk out ahead of him.
"I know that when you get home, you have nothing else to do so I was wondering if you wanted to join me. It won't be long" I said to him. He sighed as I handed him the keys to my condo.
"Do you remember the very first day I started this job? It was the same day you and your uncle interviewed me and I told you I didn't join your security team to be your friend" He reminded me.
"Well, consider this as your boss being generous. You will get the opportunity to shower and come back. During that time you will have plenty of time to decline my offer but you have until then." I said to him.
He unlocked my front door and motioned for me to stay by the door while he did a sweep of the place. His usual routine. I have gotten so used to this ever since that one weird stalker I had over 3 years ago.
Let's say even after Aries started being my bodyguard, there were still countless amount of threats and pictures of me even at my old apartment. I chose not to be afraid but that was easier said than done especially when one morning they trashed one of my latest designs.
When the guy was caught, he didn't get much time in prison as all he did was take pictures. I didn't press any charges but I did get a restraining order against him though. I never understood how he got my designs so easily because my assistant at the time said she had her key card to my office the entire time and it was indeed proven.
"All clear. Get settled in and then I will leave" Aries said to me. I smiled at him and stepped out of my heels.
"I guess I will see you tomorrow morning or later if you accept my offer," I said to him. He left out the door and I locked it behind him then texted him that it was locked.
The first thing I did was turn on some music and then lit some scented candles. I walked into my bedroom and stripped out of my work clothes, deciding to take a shower before I start on dinner.
About 30 minutes later after I got out of the shower, I dried my body and lotion my skin thoroughly. I put on a pair of panties along with a tank top and blue sweatpants then headed into the kitchen to start on dinner. I sighed deeply and started to get everything ready.
After I set the potatoes in the oven to bake, I poured myself a glass of cold white that I occasionally sip while I did the steak. About 10 minutes later I heard the doorbell ring. I headed to the door with my wine glass in hand and looked through the peephole to see Aries standing there.
I looked down at my attire and chose to ignore the fact that I have no bra on. I opened the door and he had his hands in the pocket of his jeans. He wore a plain white muscle t-shirt that made him look so good.
"I never expected you to show up," I said smiling. He looked at me and then walked into my home.
"I wasn't going to, but I thought since you asked me to stop by, you made extra food and I didn't want you wasting it," He said and then closed the door behind himself.
"How generous of you. Would you like a glass of wine while we wait?" I asked him.
"Sure, I don't mind at all," He said to me.
I walked to the kitchen and heard him follow behind me. I poured him a glass of cool white wine keeping the other one for later. He took a sip and sat down on one of the chairs by the island. I grabbed some more butter for the steak and then cover it while it cooks.
"So what made you show up?" I questioned as I checked the timer for the potatoes.
"I am trying to figure it out myself. I have to be up by 5 and then get ready to pick you up for work so I won't be staying long" He told me. I hummed in response.
After the food was finished, we ate in silence. My eyes would occasionally gaze at Aries while he eats and I could help but smile. He sipped his wine and then looked over at me. I took up a piece of my steak and started eating slowly.
I sliced up the remaining of my steak and add a little barbecue sauce to it. It is not something a lot of people eat but I love it. Aries played around with the potatoes and then looked up at me. I gave him a gentle smile and then he spoke.
"Why do you keep looking at me, ma'am?" He asked me
"Call me Dianna please," I told him
No, that is too personal. What is all this?" He asked me
" I am just trying to be friendly. You brush me off all the time and I don't think anyone would voluntarily be alone. Why don't you want company?" I asked
"Because you can never know who you can trust. I don't need friends either and you should accept that. We have a good work relationship, don't ruin that" He said to me. I scoffed and rolled my eyes.
"Good work relationship? Where you barely even look at me or speak to me? When I ask you a question, it's only yes and no with you. I am not saying you should reveal all your secrets but at least speak with me" I pleaded. He looked at me and sighed.
"Alright, I will speak to you. Now, I have to get home before 11 pm" He stated.
"Sure, whatever floats your boat," I said to him.
"What is it you wanted to ask me?" He asked
"Nothing," I said to him
"Your eyebrows are knitted and you're not eating your food. You're making me irritated" He told me
"What do you like to do for fun?" I asked him.
"Not much. I used to love playing pool with my dad and my little brother and they were very competitive. That made it more fun" He said to me. He smiled briefly.
"I didn't know you had siblings," I said to him.
"Just one and we're not close anymore," He told me
"Why not?" I asked
"Because over 2 years ago before I came here to be a bodyguard, our father was murdered in our home and I moved away," He said to me
"Oh, I'm so sorry. I didn't know" I said
"It's fine" He reassured me.
We finished eating dinner and he left around 10:45 pm. I didn't learn much about him and despite him telling me about his dad passing, I felt as if there was more to the story. Why did he and his brother drift apart after losing their dad? That should have pulled them closer together.
