You know how they say siblings are opposite, same happened with Luca and Brendon. While Luca trained me with the art of battling, Brendon was exemplary with magic. As soon as I stepped in the class for magic training I saw Brendon on the leader;s spot.
And I realised both my classes for Silver Knightship was nothing less that hell.
He greeted me with a smirk which I ignored and found the most secluded corner in the room. As class filled in my hands twitched and I closed my eyes just to calm myself down. I was sleep deprived because of nightmares and in class I have too alert. No one knew but health was affected due to this. I had nose bleeds, a spinning head, and severe indigestion. All these things could be cured by a sleeping draft or some other ailment our medics can produce.
But I didn't want to share my weaknesses with anyone.
This time, when I closed my eyes and leaned on my hand, my mind played tricks on me. I saw a small boy of eight with bright blue eyes running towards me for help. I don't see anyone behind him but as he comes closer to me, he started burning to ashes. I haven't even touched him but he dies right in front of my eyes.
I open my eyes immediately , feeling of pain and despair setting in.
"Anna, are you okay?" None other than Jayden asked me.
He said he didn't want to be friends and for a nanosecond my heart wavered but I should know better. Jayden Wallace was not known for his loyalty to girls.
"Don't call me Anna." I hissed but he seemed unaffected.
"Why?"
"Because I say so. How will you feel if I mess up your name to some stupid short form and call you Jay?"
"I will be happy that we share nicknames." He grinned at me.
His grin was never that simple, genuine grin but it felt as if he had so much more to say. His presence also brought goosebumps and erratic heartbeat which no male could do to me.
This guy was adamant and being rude didn't work on him.
"Why do you sit alone?" He asked now sitting next to me.
My unease doubled all of a sudden.
"Because I like being alone. Is that a problem?"
"No one likes to be alone Anna." Again, he was stuck with the name.
I groaned and completely try to distance him from me.
"Now class, we all know we are gathered for the training for war magic. And I will list the five most important magic to you." Brendon sounded less like a flirting boy and more like a leader right then.
"I will partner you up and you will practice with an opposite team." With that, he started randomly partnering up people.
"Annalise, you with Laura." He finally said and my eyes searched for my unfortunate partner.
And I noticed the small yet sharp girl from before who sided with me earlier during leader selection.
Laura gave me a small smile and I was surprised to see that there was no look of fear or detest in her eyes.
"War Magic one, the elemental magic," Brendon spoke up.
"Find the nearest element to you and use to attack your enemy. Now your inner self-prefers different elements and you can excel in it if you practice." Brendon then called up some guy who looked like he could tear the place apart with his bare hands.
"Now imagine the elements in your head and your magical blood of a warrior will do the rest," Brendon instructed.
He formed a mini tornado in his hands which started surrounding the buff guy.
"Use your mind to get rid of this," Brendon yelled over the loud tornado sound.
When the buff guy couldn't do anything, the tornado moved to the next person in the class and it was kind of amazing to see Brendon hold this without losing a sweat.
And it kept moving from next to next. Few of them were able to deflect it, few used water from the bottles to create a shield but it all lasted for a small time since all gathered here for extra lessons were warriors, not magicians.
Tornado came to Jayden before me and like it was not there, it vanished right before our eyes. Every present gasped and awed. Brendon himself looked surprised.
"It seems you are aware of the magic as well Wallace," Brendon said with contempt in his tone.
"I can handle it fine enough." Jayden had the tone of arrogance.
Brendon glared at him for a while and moved on to me with a water rope which ensnared my neck not too tightly but it made me uncomfortable. My first thought was to loosen the hold of the rope but it was not working. I sucked at magical stuff and this was the proof of this. Instinctively my hands shot to the water rope and as soon as I touched the magically conjured rope crumbled to ashes.
Everyone stared at me in utter shock and somewhat horror. I wanted to run away and hide, to not see myself as a killer in their eyes. I felt suffocated right then as if my fate was now the rope around my neck.
I didn't dare look up and meet people eyes but I couldn't show that I was scared instead. So I just kept looking arrogant and with chin up as if I didn't give a damn about what just happened.
"What magic was that?" Someone from the class asked.
Brendon was at lost for words right then and unexpectedly Jayden came to my rescue, "Spirit element."
I can't even say how grateful I was to him right then.
"That was pretty cool Annalise," Laura said with a delighted grin.
I almost sighed in relief mentally as she deflated the heavy tension in the room.
"Okay so only two candidates who disabled the element attach are you two. So let's have a fight off." Brendon suggested.
"I don't want to," I said at once.
There was no saying with will happen if I touched magical attacks with my bare hands when I had no knowledge in magic war art.
"I would love to." Jayden looked at me with a curious look.
He didn't look disgusted or scared, just curious.
"Should I leave the class?" I asked in an icy tone.
"No, you stay. We will just study the theory today." Brendon said and we sat down on our seats.
And this time again Jayden was next to.
"You are quite a mystery frozen." I frowned at him.
"Frozen?"
"Yes, you are ice princess like frozen movie and you don't let me call you Anna, so."
"You are into Disney movies Jayden?" I loved the movie myself since I could relate to Elsa.
"What can I say, I have to be if I want to impress the girls? True love and prince charming stuff."
"Yeah, and do you know prince charming's are not douchebags like you are."
"Why am I a douche, I just saved your ass. Nice ass I must say." He knew I owed him one for my slip up with water rope incident.
And I blurted out the most obvious question in my mind.
"I don't disgust or scare you?" I wanted to ask it dryly and hide all the desperation in them.
He just smiled, his sly smile showing off his dimple and said, "No Frozen you just intrigue me."
And suddenly there was a flower in his hand.
"Earth Magic." He extended the flower in my direction.
This guy was an accomplished warrior and a sorcerer.
And I know I can't touch it, it was a live thing and it will shrivel at my touch. He was testing me. And sensing my hesitation he made the flower turn into a leaf and let it fly away with the wind.
"If you are ice Frozen, I am the fire that you can't escape." He said with a glint in his gray eyes that somehow knotted my insides.
In a way, he might be right because right now heat crept on all over my body.
