I took off my black leather jacket and prepared for the fight. I was good at this so I was confident , still my nerves didn't get the idea and they were jumbled. Pulling out the knives from my black boots I charged ahead. Blood or violence didn't gross me out. I never understood why other girls are squeamish around blood if you know what I mean.
My dagger slashed through a lock and the prisoner's eyes opened. I estimated my surroundings. I was in a dungeon, so fighting with space was not possible. The exit door was blocked so I cannot run out. And it was not my trait to run away. Before the first prisoner could react, I moved ahead and slashed the second lock.
"Annalise, just open three doors not anymore and you have sixty seconds." My instructor, Luca Esilton shouted out.
I avoided his warning and went own breaking every locked prison in the dungeon, thirteen to be exact. One by one prisoner came out and just so you do not consider me some human slaughterer I will describe the prisoners.
A gargoyle leaped out of prison five, he was the first one to get out. It couldn't fly in narrow space so having the situation at my advantage I brandished my dagger skilfully and stabbed gargoyle's foot and backflipped away. It roared in anger and tried to leap forward; I moved back and collided with a green zombie which I decapitated in a single stroke. As I slashed forcefully at gargoyle's face and flipped above him with his head as a support I landed on grounded to face a tarantula which grossed me out but I cut off the legs before it had any chance to attack.
I was fast, tactical and ruthless. It took me sixty seconds to kill the entire thirteen monster prison when the bell sounded and my test time was over.
Covered in blood, dust and slime I walked up from dungeons. I opened the door and Mr.Esilton gave me a stern look which I shrugged away. I didn't bother with an apology, it was not my fault I was this good.
"You could be suspended for this." He scolded me with an edge of concern in his tone.
He has been my instructor since I was five and sent to Bellatord Academy of Survival Skills and Knightship. No kids are sent before age of eight but I was an early bird because my parents are high officials who sent me young at this boarding school.
"You could suspend me but you know I am the best one around," I said with nonchalance.
"Please don't be rash with your action Annalise, you are being considered for Silver Knight position." Luca almost begged me.
I softened my approach.
"I am not here for any medal of honour or title."
"And you will find him soon." I detected the tone of sympathy and I flared.
"See you later Sir." I almost stormed off in anger.
I was cursed, that was the real reason my parents threw me in this place, I had no friends and I was personally tutored by Mr. Esilton. I was lethal even without weapons. My touch shrivelled the skin and crushed the soul but they never told me how and why this happened till Luca confided me with the truth.
My high-class parents killed a child of magical being and she took out her vengeance by cursing me. She disappeared after that and I never managed to get other detail out of Luca. But the Elites at our academy did come up with a curse breaker. If I find my soul mate, the one who can withstand my fatal touch I could wash away the curse and be normal only if he stayed with me.
After years of training I was the best candidate at an academy where I have never met anyone and now they considered me for Knightship? Are they trying to kill someone? I was ready to refuse. The only thing that kept me here was the hope of curse breaker. Was I supposed to stay aloof or was I supposed to look for him?
Drowned in my thoughts I collided into someone and cringed immediately. My gloved hands hid behind my back and I looked up.
"Brendon, watch where you go!" I growled at him.
He just grinned; he didn't know what I could do.
"I was watching actually, quite intently I should say." He flirted, if only he knew.
"I am not in mood for this, I just came from a test and I am tired and dirty." I tried to avoid and I didn't like him that way.
It wasn't that he wasn't likable, oh, he was very likable but I didn't feel any connection.
"I can see, so how many did you kill today? Brother always says you are quite a killer." So he received a regular update about me from Luca, his elder brother.
I silently winced at the word killer and my fingers itched uncomfortably. I intertwined them together tightly.
"Have a good day Brendon!" I almost pushed past him.
"It is a good day, I saw you." He shouted behind me and I turned my head to stick out my tongue but I just rolled my eyes.
I let out a sigh of relief when I was at a certain distance from him, I felt nervous around people. The people I accidently killed, their face still haunted me. I didn't want another face to add to that list.
