Chapter 9

Logan was shocked to the core. The young man before him, seemingly under thirty, looked so calm and collected when faced a group of armed men. This sight made Logan, who had seen countless people in his life, hesitate and feel dazed for a moment. 'Who is he? What is his background?' Every gesture he made radiated a commanding presence. Logan frowned, his eyes narrowing as he stared at Bryson, who sat there as if nothing had happened. He sensed that things were about to take a turn for the worse. His emotions tensed up. "Who exactly are you?" Bryson smiled without saying anything. Crack! Suddenly, with a swift motion, Bryson lifted his right foot and then brought it crashing down. A bone-crushing, piercing sound echoed in the air. "Ah..." In an instant, Jaxon's high-pitched scream filled the hall. "How dare you! You're courting death!" Logan felt a surge of anger as he watched his son suffer. His eyelids flickered violently, and any lingering doubts vanished as he witnessed the scene unfold. "In Bennyvasia, no one dares to offend the Lane family!" Ignoring Logan's shout, Bryson brought down his other foot, breaking Jaxon's other hand. "Ah... It hurts so much! Dad! Save me!" With tears streaming down his face, Jaxon appeared pitifully pale and desperate. Logan's eyes turned bloodshot, veins bulging on his forehead. "I swear I'll make you die a horrible death today!" "Go ahead," Bryson replied with a faint smile. The men Logan had brought with him exchanged looks, waiting for their leader to give orders. Logan felt something was off. Seasoned by life's storms, he believed that since he had surrounded the hotel with over a hundred men, this man shouldn't be chatting with him so calmly. Thud, thud, thud. At that moment, they heard the sound of boots tapping against the floor. A tall, elegant woman stepped in, facing the group of bodyguards alone. "Are you here for a fight? I'm right here," she declared confidently. Bryson set down his fork and asked casually, "Is everything in order?" Phoebe responded with a crisp military salute before bending at a perfect ninety degrees to hand a document to Bryson. As she spread her arms, her black trench coat fell away, revealing the military uniform that made her stand out. When Logan's eyes fell on the insignia on her shoulders, his body jolted as if struck by lightning. "Major General of the Army, Navy, and Air Force?" This woman, who had seemed like just a subordinate, was actually a high-ranking officer! Logan turned to Bryson, sensing the situation had drastically shifted. A Major General who could command the Army, Navy, and Air Force held a rank equivalent to a four-star general, with authority surpassing even Logan's. 'How could such a powerful figure be so respectful to this man? Who is Bryson to command such influence?' Logan thought back to Bryson's earlier commanding presence and how calm Phoebe appeared. If this were a disguise, she wouldn't have been so calm. Logan wondered if Bryson was the son of a high-ranking official. Phoebe's presence had already thrown Logan into chaos. Yet, it was Bryson's identity that left him hesitant to speculate further. In Bennyvasia, the Lane family was undoubtedly powerful. Yet, there were always greater powers beyond, and their status paled in comparison to those with strong connections. If that were the case, acting rashly would be a grave mistake. Logan had worked hard to build his family business in Bennyvasia and couldn't afford to lose everything over a moment's folly. At the moment, Jaxon was only injured. If they encountered someone truly untouchable, the entire Lane family could face dire consequences, risking their complete downfall. Logan took a few deep breaths, his emotions still taut. Christopher was on his way. He was also a high-ranking military official, and his arrival would help the situation. Silence enveloped the grand, opulent hall of over two hundred square meters, broken only by the sound of Logan swallowing hard. Now, he could barely speak, looking at Bryson in fear, his tone changing dramatically. "Who... Who exactly are you?" Bryson's gaze sharpened, filled with murderous intent. "Who am I? I am Audrey's husband, Bella's father! The Lane and Russell families treated my wife as a plaything and insulted her. How dare you do that to my wife?" Every time Bryson spoke, Logan's heart skipped a beat. He could never have imagined that the imposing man before him was actually the useless son-in-law of the Russell family, Bryson Reed. At that moment, Jaxon's face grew paler, the result of severe injuries and blood loss. "Dad... Help me! Uncle Christopher is a military officer. A major general won't dare to offend him. Ask him for help. I don't want to die!" Jaxon cried out in pain. Yet, Logan was so stunned that he barely understood what his son was saying. He never expected Bryson to return in such a powerful way. If a major general had to obey Bryson, what kind of rank did Bryson hold? Just then, a middle-aged man with a square face and slicked-back hair, in full military uniform, rushed into the hall in a panic. "Logan..." The man stumbled and fell to the ground in his haste. He quickly got back to his feet, brushing past Phoebe, who stood before him. "General Williams?" He then turned to Bryson, and endless fear overwhelmed him, causing him to collapse back to the floor. "General Reed!" Christopher's words left Logan frozen in shock and fear. 'General? This man had such a high status!' Bryson spoke with a steady voice, "Christopher, do you know what you've done?" Christopher's lips quivered, and he fell to the ground, genuinely terrified. Bryson, the highest-ranking officer in the military, the legendary hero, Thunderlord, was standing right in front of him. He was just an obscure military district chief. How could he not be afraid? Moments ago, the men he had brought with him were stopped outside Bennyvasia, and he had been allowed to enter alone to beg for forgiveness from the general. He had never imagined that the man in front of him was his direct superior. "General Reed, I accept my mistakes... Please, have mercy and spare me..." Seeing Christopher in a panic only made Logan lose all hope. He fell to the ground, despair etched on his face as he pleaded, "I didn't know you were General Reed. If I had known, I wouldn't have dared to offend you!" He continued, "Please give me a chance, General Reed. I'll pay whatever it takes... I could give you half of the Lane family's fortune. Please spare me and my son!" When Bryson remained silent, Logan quickly changed his plea, "No, no, not half. I'll give you everything the Lane family has! If you can just let us go, I'll gladly offer all of the Lane family's properties!" Bryson smiled coldly, his laughter chilling the air. "Money? I have more than enough. What I want is the lives of the entire Lane family!" "I..." The Lane family was rich, but next to Bryson, their wealth was insignificant. Logan's face paled. Meanwhile, Jaxon struggled frantically, but he was firmly held down by Bryson, his efforts futile. "Please don't kill me! Dad! Dad! I don't want to die..." Bryson fixed his cold gaze on Jaxon. "It's too late to regret it now." "No!" With one cruel stomp, Jaxon screamed in pain as his brain burst, blood splattering everywhere, and he died instantly. Darkness clouded Logan's eyes as he watched his son die before him, and he crumpled to the ground. "Family members should stay together," Bryson said, then opened a letter. "It turns out it was the Russell, Lane, Watts, and Jenkins families that caused my family's tragic end. Your crimes are unforgivable. You will pay for your debts in blood!" Logan's face turned pale. He sank into despair as he fell to the ground. Bryson's expression darkened further. "The Lane family's crimes deserve punishment with the annihilation of the entire family. Everyone here is part of the Lane family and will be executed!"
