Chapter 5

Linda held her head high, looking down at Bryson with a disdainful gaze. She relished this feeling of superiority when viewing others as insignificant. Yet, Bryson remained unbothered, his expression calm. As Linda faced his indifference, she mistakenly believed he was just an ignorant man who had never attended such a grand event. With a raised eyebrow, she smirked, "Sorry if what I said hurt your pride, loser. If it did, all I can say is I'm sorry." She sneered, "I just got an invitation to a grand Worship Ceremony from General Reed. The Reed family is powerful, and you have the same surname, but you're nothing more than a piece of trash. I know why you're here today. You want to avenge your wife and daughter, right?" Audrey quickly interjected, "Bryson didn't mean that." Linda feigned surprise, "Oh, Audrey, when did you come back? Mr. Lane must be very pleased with a slut like you, huh? Don't worry; no matter how much money he gave you, the Russell family won't take a single cent." It was an outright insult! The crowd began to murmur, their whispers filled with mockery directed at Audrey. Once a precious daughter of the Russell family and Caleb's prized successor, she had now stooped so low as to be a prostitute. A sharp slap echoed through the air. The crowd gasped in shock. Linda covered her swollen, red face, disbelief etched all over her features. Blood trickled from the corner of her mouth, and her delicate nose, which she had just spent a fortune to enhance in Kotonia, was now crooked. "How... How dare you hit me?" Smack! Bryson struck her again, swelling the other side of her face and leaving her carefully styled hair a disheveled mess, looking like a bird's nest. "This slap is for Audrey!" Bryson's piercing gaze sent a chill down Linda's spine. Linda couldn't comprehend how someone she deemed useless could project such an intimidating presence that filled her with fear. "You've lost it! You've lost your goddamn mind!" Linda's eyes widened in fury as she shouted, disregarding her supposed dignity. The humiliation of being slapped twice in public was far worse than the pain she felt on her face. What she didn't know was if Bryson wanted to take her life, she would have been killed by his first slap. "How dare you hit the head of the family..." Mason rushed forward, but Bryson kicked him, sending him flying off the stage to crash heavily to the ground. "I'm here to announce something to all of you: I'll kill anyone who insults my wife and daughter." Bryson spoke calmly, his deep voice resonating with a seriousness that demanded respect. Everyone present stood momentarily stunned, clearly intimidated by his presence. The aura he exuded was something ordinary people couldn't ignore. But wasn't he just a useless son-in-law of the Russell family? "The Russell family is a prestigious family in Bennyvasia. You've trespassed and beat the Russell family members. Are you courting death?" Mason attempted to sound tough. At that moment, several bodyguards from the Russell family rushed in. Seeing them, Mason pointed at Bryson and shouted, "Get him! Kill this mother*cker!" "Shut up!" As the bodyguards approached, Bryson raised a hand and sent seven or eight of them flying twenty feet away, crashing hard to the ground. Was this even human's strength? The remaining bodyguards were frozen in fear, their mouths agape and faces pale with terror. "Too weak." As a five-star general known as the "Thunderlord," Bryson's voice was as cold as ice, devoid of emotion. Mason tried to sneak up to attack from behind, but Bryson kicked his wrist, breaking it instantly. "Ah..." Mason screamed in agony, but before he could finish, Bryson threw a punch. Bang! Mason's nose broke, and several teeth flew out. Before he could spit out the blood and teeth, Bryson struck again. He covered Mason's mouth and said coldly, "If you say one more word, I'll rip out your tongue and stuff it back in your mouth. You'll wish for a fate worse than death!" Mason gulped, terror filling his wide eyes. He was drenched in cold sweat. He realized Bryson was not joking. 'How cruel! Is this guy even human, or a devil from hell?' he wondered. "Daddy, don't hit him anymore. I'm scared." Bella hugged Bryson's leg. "Bryson, that's enough. Let's go," Audrey tugged at his hand. "Look, Bella is scared." Bryson stroked Bella's little head. "Don't be scared, Bella. Daddy will take you for a late-night snack, okay?" "Okay." Bella's sweet smile melted Bryson's heart instantly. The next moment, Bryson shot a cold glare at Linda and the others. "Since my wife and daughter want me to spare your lives, I'll let you off." He added, "Seven days from now, I want all of you to apologize to Audrey sincerely. Whether you live or die, she has the final say." With that, he picked up Bella and asked affectionately, "What do you want to eat, Bella? Daddy will treat you." "Ice cream," Bella said, sucking her finger. "Let's go. Daddy will take you and Mommy for ice cream!" As the family of three walked out of the villa, Linda's chest heaved with anger. She covered her battered face, cursing, "You want us to apologize to her? You must've lost your f*cking mind!" She went on, "The Russell family has received General Reed's invitation, a tremendous honor. What do you have to stand against me? I'll have General Reed kill you all!" "Get the f*ck up, you bunch of idiots!" Mason kicked the fallen bodyguards. "What a waste of paying you. You can't even deal with a pathetic soldier." Then, Mason turned to Linda with wide eyes. "Linda, when has our family ever faced such humiliation? I'll have someone break that mother*cker's limbs and bring him and his family back to you!" "Good! Bring more people!" Linda exclaimed. "Don't worry, none of them will escape!" Mason said confidently.
