We both sat there with our jaws open. I We both sat there with our jaws open. I jumped up and started asking a bunch of questions.
"What! Who wants to kill me?"
"And why?!"
"Where did I come from?"
"Why didn't my birth mother want me?"
"What do I do now?!"
My mother stood up and wrapped me in a big hug. Letting her tears flow out.
"We don't know, sweetie. We will protect you though. We loved you the moment we saw you. As for your other questions, we have no answers unfortunately."
"This is bullshit!" James yells.
"How do we even know that the note is even true? It makes no sense at all. Why would someone want to hurt Angie?"
"ENOUGH!" my father, who usually remains quiet, shouts.
"I will not allow any harm to come to you, Angelica. You will be home-schooled from now on. If you need to go somewhere, your mother or I must accompany you. If it's after school, then James may accompany you as well."
"That's not fair! I love going to school! I doubt it would be a student that would be after me. Plus, I'm a good fighter. You've taught me and James very well throughout the years." I protest.
"I'll ask to be transferred into every class that Angie has. I'll kick anyone's ass who tries to mess with her." James added.
" I don't know about this." Mother croaks out.
"Well, our birthdays are not for another four days. Can I at least attend school until then?"
"Fine, but James is to be with you at all times."
We arrived early to school the next day to discuss James transferring into my classes for the remainder of the week. I informed them that I would be starting home schooling the following week. Everything went smoothly and James stood by his word. He never left my side! Even if I had to use the restroom, he would stand outside the door. We've been getting weird looks from fellow students as we walk down the halls. I could hear whispers consisting of, "When did they start dating?" "They look so cute together!" I guess I can understand how people don't know we are brother and sister. We don't look anything a like, plus I have a different birth mother apparently.
When we got to the cafeteria, Emily was the first in the group of friends to ask what was going on. Crap. How am I suppose to explain this. I need to think of an excuse. Before I could come up with something, James beat me to it.
"Our parents caught me smoking last night, so now I'm not allowed to leave miss goodies side. It's killing me dodging all the girls. They all think i'm dating Angie. How sickening is that?!" Everyone laughs at his dramatic story, but thankfully believed it. Everyone, except Lucas. He sat there, staring at me with a look of disbelief.
Lucas's POV
I don't know what those two are hiding, but I am determined to find out. I want to ask Angel when she's alone, but James never leaves her side. This continues for the rest of the week and I can't stand it any longer. I wait until the lights are out, then climb up to her window. I lightly tap on it and she is quick to answer.
"You can't be here!" she yells at me. That's a first. I've never heard this beauty raise her voice to anyone. I don't even have time to respond before she apologizes.
"Sorry, I'm going through something right now and rather be alone."
"Please, can I come in? I just want to talk to you." Why the f**k am I pleading to a girl?
"Ugh, fine. Hurry up. You have to leave before midnight."
"Why?" I curiously ask.
She fidgets with her fingers nervously, while looking down at the ground.
"Angel?"
"I-I can't tell you." She stutters.
I placed my thumb under her chin to lift her head slowly. Her beautiful blue eyes filled with tears, begging to spill out.
"You can tell me anything. If you're in trouble, let me help."
"Tomorrow is my birthday.."
"And that is bad, because?"
"If I tell you something, you have to promise to never speak of it to another soul."
"I swear on my life."
After hearing her story, my blood was boiling. I wanted nothing more than to kill whoever is out to harm my innocent angel.
"You have to leave."
"Why?" I ask
"It's almost midnight. If whoever is after me finds me, I can't have you here. I don't want you to get hurt because of me."
I smirked at that. "Baby girl, you have no idea the strength I have. I'll protect you, I can promise you that. Plus, I want to be the first one to wish you a happy birthday."
She giggled and it was such a sweet sound, one that I haven't heard in almost a week.
*Ding*
The alarm on her phone went off, and that's when I noticed the time.
"Happy Birthday, Angel" I say as I lean in to kiss her cheek. However, I'm met with soft lips. Unfortunately, the kiss doesn't last long as she drops to the floor screaming in pain.
"AHHH!!!! It hurts! Help me, please!"
I'm immediately on the floor next to her. "What hurts, tell me!"
"M-my back" she cries out. Her bedroom door is whipped open as her family enters the room.
"Angie, what happened? What did this boy do to you?" her father angrily asks and James has his arms around my throat. I easily got loose from his hands and told them what happened.
"STOP FIGHTING" she managed to yell out.
Her mother re-entered the room with a heated pad, placing it on Angel's back.
"Jame's call 9-1-1!" her father yelled out, but I quickly told him not to.
"What the hell is wrong with you, my daughter is in pain!"
The sound of skin being torn filled the room, and out of her back came a beautiful set of white, fluffy wings.
I can't believe that my angel is an actual angel.
Shit! This can't be..
Without a word, I jumped out the window and raced home.
