16. BEAMS

Beams seemed to slide down into darkness forever. Wind whistled past him as he descended into the shadows. It was so black that he couldn’t see anything at all. He could only feel the smooth stone slide underneath him. His screams became lost in the loud wind passing him by on all sides. Beams was sure he would just keep sliding into shadow for all of eternity, but then the slide leveled out and he found himself flying in the darkness abruptly. Without being able to see his surroundings, Beams fully expected to crash into the ground and snap his neck or break his head wide open. That was why he was surprised when he landed on what felt like a giant mattress.
