MARILYN'S POV
THE NEXT DAY,
PARTY DAY
"Mary, get some cocktails for the guests at table 17!!"
Mom called and I stressfully sprinted towards the bar erected at the center of the garden for this purpose.
"I'll get it. Nevermind. You need some rest."
Steve said and took it before me.
I smiled and mouthed a 'thank you' to him as he left with the drinks.
Pheew.
Finally, a moment of rest I have achieved.
We never expect the massive turn up for Dad's welcoming party.
It was.... enormous..
The entire lawn was crowded and some guests even had to stay in the house.
I never knew we were this popular in the neighborhood, or maybe because of my mom....and Steve.
Most of the crowd were Steve's friends... And mom's friends.
I have no friend.
Well, I am not ready to go into details about that.
I am a practical loner.
That's all I can say.
I have been busy since in the morning trying to get all things in order before the main event of the day.
I relaxed against the bar scanning the crowd and accessing the guests when Steve returned breathing hard.
"Damn. How do you do this and not break a sweat?"
He asked and I chuckled.
" What makes you think I don't break a sweat?"
I asked.
He glared at me.
" Yeah you don't. I see it all over you. You don't even pant. "
He replied and i glanced at him with surprise.
" What the hell do you take me for? Some drone?"
I asked and he laughed.
" Probably. You should at some point tighten your screws. "
He said and I glared at him about to strike when.....
" What's up kids?"
That achingly familiar voice came in and I immediately turned around leaning against the bar backing them both.
I didn't know why I did that but.... Damn.
It was a reflex action and I didn't expect myself to react that way.
"I am cool. I and Marilyn were just trying to catch our breaths. "
Steve said and he chuckled.
" Uhh.... Marilyn?"
He called and I gulped.
I felt my heart pounding at the sound of my name in his mouth.
Shit.
Why won't he just leave me alone?
I turned around slowly and glanced at him.
He smiled beautifully and my heart nearly exploded.
Why the hell do I keep having this excessive turmoil within me whenever I see him?
God!!!!
He's so... So cute.
"Sorry to bother you. I just wanted to say that when you guys are done with whatever arrangements you are making, you can join me inside. I have prepared a special treat for us personally. We can do that while your mom handles the guests. "
He said and I gulped.
" Sure. That's a great idea."
Steve said Immediately.
Totally not a great idea to me.
I have to be about a mile from this bloody sweet seductive devil.
He is... He is...
"What do you say Marilyn? "
He asked, interrupting my thoughts and flashing me that heartwarming smile.
I swallowed and looked away briskly.
"I uhh.... I don't know. I just think I will be fine alone in my room."
I said and Steve glanced at me like i was crazy.
" For real? Are you okay?"
He turned back to dad.
"It's fine. She's just kidding. We will both join you."
He said and dad smiled a bit before taking his exit staring at me relentlessly.
I nearly fell.
Steve turned to me after he had disappeared.
"What's the matter, Marilyn?"
He asked and I turned to him.
" Nothing. "
" What do you mean nothing? Dad just made a request about joining him for a separate meal as his new kids and you said you will be fine alone, in your room? Who the hell does that? I was actually doubting when mom kept pestering you about your hesitation with Dad but now i think I see it. What's the matter big sis? "
He asked and I sighed.
I didn't know why this was annoying me.
"It's none of your business, Steve. I am okay and I am not having any hesitation with Dad. What's with you guys and this assumption? "
I asked and he stepped back..
" Hey. Easy sis. We are not fighting, are we?"
He asked and I sighed.
Why the hell am I overreacting?
I turned to him.
"I am sorry. I just don't like it when you guys keep bringing up that issue. I didn't want to go in the first place because I had a lot of work doing. But since you insist on it, I guess I don't have a choice. "
I said and he smiled.
" Of course you don't have a choice. Go get this all in order so we can join him in no time. "
He requested and I smiled wryly as he disappeared.
I gulped and rubbed my hair frustratedly.
That is an enormously silly mistake.
Why the hell did I agree to do that?
Something is definitely sure to happen.
He knows that.
Why does he keep creating avenues for us to meet?
Does he want to keep f*****g me till mom finds out?
What does he really want?
I thought he was ready to end this?
Why does it seem like I am the only one fighting this?
Well, at least, Steve will be there to stop us from doing any s**t.
But Steve is the kind of fellow that doesn't stay a place.
What if he eventually leaves us alone?
Aaargh.
I can't do this.
But at the same time, I can't afford to reject Steve's offer.
He really wanted me to come along.
And I have to proof to him that I have nothing against dad.
Aaargh!!!!!
How do I do this?
I need to tell Dad that I can't do this.
But of course that would break little Steve's heart.
Shit!!! s**t!!!! s**t!!!!!
I looked around me for mom.
Perhaps, she could be my savior.
I need as much work as possible so I won't be able to make the 'special treat' as he called it.
That way, it won't be my fault that I missed it and Steve won't be bothered.
I scanned the crowd, searching none other than mom when my gaze suddenly be landed on his beautiful stunning crystal gaze at a distance, peering through my soul.
Bloody s**t!!!!
He leaned against a wall with his hands in his pockets staring at me relentlessly.
Is it my brain playing tricks on me or what?
He smiled and I gulped.
I hurriedly turned away and moved briskly through the crowd searching for my one and only savior.
MOM!!!!!!
