________________________________ . . . Nicole opened the door with a huge grin on her face, but Daphne was not in the mood to entertain that. She pushed her aside and walked into the house. The place was like her own. The Golden Trio was like that. "What happened, my sunshine?" Nicole knew that she was treading dangerous waters. Her parents always riled Daphne up and it was important that she did not get worked up about their tyrannical ways otherwise she would not be able to help Daphne out. It was precisely the reason why Daphne did not go to Chloe. Chloe and Daphne would just start spitting profanities and Daphne's mood would only further worsen. They didn't need that. "All the happiness in my life got burnt down." Daphne plopped down on the couch and sat Indian style, stuffing more spicy Cheetos into her mouth. Daphne had a very high spice tolerance. "Your butthole is going to burn if you do that." "Don't care!" "I thought the dinner was next week." Nicole sat down next to her, picking up a throw pillow and hugging it. "It is!" For some reason, it just riled her up some more and she started to shove more of the snacks down her throat. "Whoa whoa whoa... What's the problem then?" Well, going to dinners with her parents was always a problem. There was nothing new about that. And the past few times, she was pretty cool about it because she was having a hearty time making a fool out of them. Was it because it was time for her to go back? "I need something sweet." Daphne passed the packet to Nicole and jogged over to the fridge. "Don't you dare touch my tub." Nicole said. There were always three tubs of ice cream sitting in the fridge of all three girls because they would crash at one of their places for no reason. Nicole was very specific about her ice cream and all but Daphne was a food demon when she was stressed. She would eat anything in sight. "I swear Daph, you are going to have breakouts in the morning if you eat like that." "I don't care!" Daphne came back with Chloe's choco chip ice cream. "I am stressed!!!" She screamed. "Now would you tell me what on earth is going on? What did your parents do?" Nicole popped a Cheetos into her mouth as well. "What did they do?" Daphne asked. Nicole gave her a flat look. "Seriously? Obviously, they did something otherwise you wouldn't be here after midnight, stuffing your mouth with junk food, right? What do they want from you now?" "They are not the reason why I am here." Daphne finally admitted. She knew that she would have to retell all of this to Chloe as well but she didn't want her to come over here in the middle of the night when she had a baby at home. Niall could go to hell. "My parents will give me reason for stress eating soon but as of now, they are laying low. I don't know what exactly they are planning and that sort of does stress me out but that's not the reason now." Nicole nodded, trying to think of any reason why she would be this stressed. "It cannot be because of work, can it? I mean, you don't care about these things." "It is indeed because of work." Daphne sighed. She had promised herself that she would keep all of this to herself because the girls would tease her to no end if she told her but she could not help but tell them. These were her girls and they had every right to know everything that was going on in her life. "Alan again?" Nicole asked, this time a bit more relaxed. As long as it was not her torturous parents, anything else was fine. And Daphne was probably getting riled up for the wrong reasons. Daphne Prescott did not like to mix pleasure with business. She had always kept her work and personal life separate. She had a strict no-dating-colleagues policy set for herself. And her boss being the guy she had a one-night-stand with was really messing with her head and Nicole had to agree that she and Chloe weren't exactly being helpful, making fun of her about it. But they had not thought that it would have such an effect on Daphne. In their defense, they were also new to such a situation because Daphne did not let it happen. "It's Alan always." Daphne huffed as she shoved ice cream into her mouth with the biggest spoon she could find it the kitchen. "He was being so awfully suspicious today, asking me out to dinner and shit." Nicole raised a brow. "Dinner?" "Yeah. He said he would take back all the bullshit he said last Friday if I went out to eat with him. As if I am not aware of his plans!" "His plans?" Nicole bit her lips, trying not to laugh because now she was sort of onto something. And that did not involve any malicious plan by Alan Conall. "Stop repeating after me like a parrot." Daphne rolled her eyes, swatting the spoon at her. "You are smart. You must have figured out what he is planning now!" "Thank you." Nicole couldn't help but be taken aback by the sudden compliment. It was a direct one, unlike the indirect one about she being a main character. "Yes, I have a vague idea about what he might be thinking but just to be clear, to see if we are on the same page, what do you think he is up to?" Daphne did not give her an immediate answer. She simply shuffled around and then went back into the kitchen to get more food, coming back with a bar of Snickers and the Pringles that Daphne herself has stocked there. "Before that, I have something else to confess." Daphne dumped all the food on the couch and started to pace around the room. "I am hoping there is something after the confess part." Nicole opened the Pringles and took out one chips. "I am contemplating whether to tell you now or wait till Chlo is in the same room so that I wouldn't have to retell the story and embarass myself again." Nicole sat up straight and Daphne did not miss the movement. "See! See! You are ready to make fun of me!" "No, I am not!" Nicole laughed. "God, you are being a child." "I am not being a child! You both are the children and that is the very reason I don't want to tell you people!" Daphne huffed, going back to her midnight snacks. "Alright." Nicole pretended to think deeply and then sighed. "If you really do not want to tell me and want to go crazy overthinking it, then be my guest and take the guest room. It is half past two in the morning right now and I need to reach the Flower Shop at five." Daphne pouted, still in a dilemma about whether to tell her best friend or not. "I fantasized about Alan." Nicole stopped in her tracks, raising a brow and willing her to be more specific. "From the Saturday after the one-night-stand to well... last night, I fantasized about Alan. Well, his p***s. I am not at all interested in that asshole." Daphne refused to look at Nicole and even though she wanted to ask her to, Nicole knew how hard it must be for the goth queen who was not used to this kind of emotion. Hell, she was the goth queen, the commitphobic emotionally detached stone-hearted ice queen. Nicole wished that Daphne would actually feel real emotions towards a human than an appendage but this was something. "You know that's completely normal, right?" Nicole asked. "You liked having s*x with him. Big deal!" Daphne looked up at her best friend like she was crazy, because this was not the reaction she was expecting from her. She narrowed her eyes. "It's not normal to have any sort of feelings towards that prick!" Nicole shook her head, chuckling. "Seriously, his stupid mouth had ruined his majestic p***s for me!" "Majestic p***s?" Nicole laughed out loud. Goth queen really was out of her mind. "Yeah yeah, so his mouth had ruined his p***s for me then why the hell am I still seeing his p***s in my dream?" "Because you like his majestic p***s?" Nicole laughed while Daphne gave her a flat look, hating herself for giving the bone to the dog. "So, the thing about him asking you out for dinner. What do you think he is up to?" "I think he wants to prove that I am indeed after him so that he can kick me out of the company." Daphne nodded to herself, so sure that she could not be wrong about this. She was a lawyer, after all. She could not go wrong when it came to reading people. Nicole sighed. Of course, she would think negatively. The thing about Daphne was that, even though she believed in people being all shades of grey, if someone had gotten on her bad side, she would have a really hard time, trying to see them in a better light. A lot of people were like that. "Or maybe he really wanted to eat out with you." Nicole tried to get the idea in her head. "Maybe he thought that he was a bit too harsh on you with that accusation and he wanted to amends." "Well, I don't want amends." Daphne rolled her eyes as she picked up all the food that she had brought to the living room. "I am done!" "Are you going back right now?" Nicole followed her to the kitchen where she watched her best friend keep everything in its right place. Oh to be as orderly as Daphne Prescott! "Obviously not." Daphne rolled her eyes making Nicole groan. "You should stop that!" "Please no. Not today." Daphne shrugged. "I am taking the guest bedroom. Good night!" Nicole laughed yelling a "Good night!" at her retreating back before making her way back to her own bedroom where she found her four cats sleeping unbothered on her bed. "I could have been killed by a serial killer and you people wouldn't care, would you?" She rolled her eyes and then caught herself, chuckling as she smacked the side of her head. Daphne lay in bed, murmuring profanities at her own brain and threatening it not to think about the majestic p***s. It was already late and she needed some real sleep and then she needed to wake up early and go back to her apartment because her little girl was all alone there and she could not miss her jog. "I am warning you." She mumbled one last time. "No majestic p***s!" . . . _____________________________
