Daphne did not like Alan Conall.
She had kept his p***s on a shrine. She had gotten obsessed with it like no other before.
But then he went and asked this.
"Is it a coincidence? Or was this pre-planned?"
Not even Alan Conall's majestic p***s could garner some likeness towards him after that.
Daphne Prescott did not Alan Conall. Officially.
"Do you think you are Henry Cavill?" Daphne spoke up after an entire minute of staring at him dumbfoundedly and mourning the loss of her crush on his southern appendage.
"Excuse me?" He tilted his head, mirroring her previous look of confusion.
"No, because if you gotta think that I will go out of my way to sleep with you before you become my boss, then you must have some major ego. Or was that called the delusion of grandeur?" Daphne took a step back to get a better look at him.
Damn, he really had ruined everything for her right now!
Alan Conall took a step forward, his eyes darkening. "And I am supposed to fall for this facade, aren't I? Do you take me for a fool?"
Daphne matched his glare head-on. "Yes, you do seem like a self-absorbed fool to me."
She knew that she should be controlling her temper better. He was her boss, after all. But she really did not care for assholes like this who thought the world of themselves and so little of others.
"If you have forgotten, then I would like to remind you that I was minding my own business back at the club, having a jolly time with my girls and it was you, dear gentleman, who approached me." She pointed out. "And I didn't even know who you were. Look as doubtful as you want to, but there are people out there who do not care for who you are, Mr. Conall. And can we just pretend that this is the first time that we are seeing each other because last Friday has started to seem like a nightmare to me?"
Daphne knew that for her, to forget last Friday night would be the most difficult task that she had undertaken in her life. She was embarrassed to admit it even to herself but she was acting like a s*x-crazed teenager who had kept a d**k on a freaking shrine. And she was regretting it now.
Alan did not speak. He was trying to stare her down. But he was unaware of the fact that Daphne Prescott was the firstborn of the eighth generation of a family of lawyers and judges. She could not be intimidated unless there was a weapon in question.
"Now, if you will excuse me." She walked away just like that.
And the rest of the day, she spent hiding from him.
She didn't think the day would come when she actually wished that she could quit quickly and go back to the other side of the country. That too because of a man. And for all the wrong reasons.

Daphne dreaded the coming Monday. Every employee dreaded the end of the weekend but this was a new-found dread. And Saturday had swished past without pausing for a second.
And Daphne found herself at Chloe's home gym with her two girls, working out. Sunday workouts were a ritual that could not be skipped unless there was a birth or death involved.
"I can't do this anymore." Nicole wheezed as she slowed down the incline. "I need a break."
"Shut up. You can't cool down." Chloe barked from the other side of the huge room where she was deadlifting.
"Dude, you work out every single day of the week," Nicole said.
"Except Wednesdays." Daphne made the input.
"It's easier for you. I, on the other hand, am dying here." Nicole continued, narrowing her eyes at Daphne who was doing her bicep curls.
"You make so many excuses every week, Nick." Chloe rolled her eyes. "One would think that you would get a bit more creative about it considering you are a freaking writer."
"Oh yeah, creative like what? I can't walk because I drank a witch's potion and now my calves are asleep." Daphne grunted.
"Funny." Nicole turned to her other best friend. "Go back to brooding. I don't want to deal with a sarcastic goth queen right now."
"Oh, she's still brooding right now. But for a completely different reason." Chloe said and the duo started to cackle like hyenas while Daphne rolled her eyes, grumbling to herself.
Thank the heavens she was too embarrassed to tell them about her dreams else they would have never let her forget it.
"Can we get over it please?" She asked.
"Already?" Nicole laughed.
"No way in hell!" Chloe continued to cackle. "Not after how you reacted to seeing him again. Niall was so surprised that anyone could rattle her like that!"
"I am going to make you a widow," Daphne growled.
" "I am going to make you a widow." The raging witch growled. RAWR!" Nicole narrated and the two best friends went on laughing at their best friend's expense.
"I am leaving." Daphne huffed.
"Nice try. But you are not leaving until you finish your routine and do cardio." Chloe ordered.
Daphne grumbled again. Nothing was going her way.
Nothing was ever going her way.

Monday came too soon.
"Relax Daph, you were so cool last Friday. Keep that cool and hustle away." Daphne sat in her car, motivating herself. "I mean, what can go wrong? Do you
think he is going to call you out in front of the whole office? Honey, you are a f*****g lawyer from a family of lawyers. You will sue his ass if he tries something on you!"
"You are a strong- f*****g HEAVENS!" Daphne jumped, clutching her chest as she heard the knock on her car. She stared at the man waving at her.
She pushed open the door and got out, ready to throw hands. "What the hell, Simon? Do you want me to have a heart attack?"
"Whoa whoa whoa tiger, calm down! I had no such intention." Simon laughed and that just riled Daphne a bit more. "It looked like you were having a panic attack in there so I just wanted to check if you were alright." He held his hands up in surrender.
"Oh well!" Daphne was still breathing heavily, her heart beating in her ear. "Now that you know, scram!"
"Jeez." Simon made no move.
And Daphne was finally calming down, the embarrassment of her childish antics started to weigh down on her.
She averted her eyes and Simon knew immediately how she was feeling, and he was a gentleman enough to change the topic.
"How was your weekend?" He asked, shoving his hands inside his pockets and staring down at his shoes. He was never one for small talk.
"Okayish." Daphne bit her lips. It was new for Daphne too to be nice to people, even if it was to get out of a situation.
"Just okayish?" He asked, looking back at her.
She raised a brow and then turned to her car to get her belongings. "What exactly did you want to hear?" She turned to him and smirked. "That it was scandalous? Do you like hearing such stories, Simon?"
Simon bit his cheeks to control his smile. She did recover from such moments pretty quickly, didn't she? It was honestly very admirable.
"Well, you seemed like an adventurous person." He pressed, wanting to hear more. "So yeah, I was exactly something similar to scandalous."
Daphne grinned. "I left home only to go for walks with my puppy and then spend time with my girls at Chloe's house." The two started walking to the elevator. "I spent the rest of my weekend watching K-drama."
"You have a puppy? And I didn't take you for a Korean drama person." Simon fixed his glasses and Daphne's eyes raked across the bulging veins running from the back of his hands and hiding under his coat sleeve.
"Yes, my Maya. She is a golden retriever and she is one year old. And yeah, I found the motivation to be a law-... abiding citizen by watching K-dramas."
Simon chuckled. "That's random." They came to the elevator and he pressed the call button. "And I also happen to have a golden retriever, two and a half years old. His name is Tuck."
Daphne raised a brow. "I didn't take you for the kind to have a puppy."
"A dog." He corrected, laughing. "He's a full-grown dog."
"There's no such thing as a full-grown dog. They will always be puppies." Daphne argued. "And you can't change my mind on that."
"Alright, ma'am. I rest my case."
Daphne stared at him for a moment before nodding. Did he somehow know that she was a lawyer? Even if he did, did it matter? Well, it didn't matter if he got to know that she was a lawyer because a lot of people change their careers. But it would really be a problem if anyone got to know that she was a Prescott lawyer. As in a lawyer from the Prescott legal firm. That would be a big problem.
He couldn't know that. No one could know that.
