Chapter 7
While the worst case scenario never occurred, the funeral was an overall uncomfortable experience. It started with an awkwardly quiet car ride with Jamison, Stella, and Emmett, due to an unspoken agreement that anything other than silence would seem disrespectful. When they arrived at the church, people Cole barely recognized came up to his siblings to offer condolences. There was no mistaking Cole’s identity, yet few people addressed him directly. A few mentioned it was nice that all of them could be here for the funeral and offered him a passing remorseful smile before going back to talking to the others.
There was one person, however, who took it upon themselves to ask the questions everyone else was probably dying to know the answers to. “You might not remember me,” he said
