Chapter 21 getting ready

Star’s P.O.V

  The sun was shining through the window and the beams of light were shining brightly on my face, waking me up. I felt around the bed for National, but I couldn't feel him, he wasn't in bed. I sat up, thinking he might be in the bathroom, but after waiting for a while he never came out. I got out of bed, went to the bathroom and quickly showered before drying off and going back into the bedroom to get dressed. I decided on wearing my jeans and a sweater as it was a little chilly this morning, then I put on my shoes and walked downstairs. I went into National’s office and then the kitchen, but he wasn't in either. What the hell? Did he leave again without telling me? I thought to myself, shaking my head as I walked back to my office.I walked through the door just as the phone started to ring and I hurried to answer it, thinking it might be National.

  “Hello…” I said, answering the phone, but it wasn't National.

  “Hello Star, it's Brie. we need to talk.” Brie replied and I was surprised to hear from her. I hadn't heard from her since she left here after we got her back to health.

  “Hi Brie, what's wrong? You sound tense.” I asked and she sighed. This must be serious.

  “I have had two interesting visits lately. The first was from a lovely young she-wolf called Karen and she told me that her brother was looking for a witch to get you. I didn't think much about it at first and told her to come back in three days with her brother. I honestly didn't think they would, but after the three days Karen showed back up here with her mate and her brother, Kevin. Star, he is really crazy, he asked me to make him a potion so that he could give it to you and then you would become his, that it would make you want him. I played a long and told him that he needed to come back in four days time and then I would give him the potion, that he had to slip into your red wine and then you would be his, but I’m worried about Karen. She is innocent in all of this and doesn't want any of this, her brother is going to turn on her, so I managed to pull her to one side and tell her to pack her stuff and leave with her mate. I told her to come to you in three days. Star, Karen and her mate don't want this war, her brother does, but she doesn't.” Brie said and as I was listening to everything she had to say National walked into the office. He looked straight at me, raising an eyebrow at me before I turned and carried on with my conversation.

  “Well, thank you for calling and letting me know what's going on. Karen and Justin will be safe and more than welcome here, I’ll be waiting for them to arrive and I’ll also have a room ready for them. Take care and if you need me, no need to phone, just hurry and come here. You are always welcome, talk soon.” I replied and hung up the phone. I looked at National and crossed my arms over my chest, waiting for an explanation, but he just looked confused.

  “So, where were you and don't say the office because that was the first place I checked and you weren't there. I also looked in the kitchen, so you can't say there either.” I asked and he softly chuckled.

  “Calm down, I was on the other side of the house. I had a few things to do and I also put a few things in the museum that belonged to my ex mate. It was my way of honouring her, if you don't mind. I placed a couple of her daggers that she kept with her at all times and a dress. She was a Luna, so I put them in the museum.” National replied and I felt really bad now. 

  “I’m sorry, it's just that I didn't know where you were and the last time I woke up in bed alone you were gone for a year.” I said and suddenly he realised why I was like this.

  “s**t, I’m sorry, I didn't mean to make you worry, but this was something that I had to do on my own.” National replied, pulling me into a hug. 

  “I’m not mad, well, a little upset, but not mad. I’m glad that you added something of your ex mates to the museum and I understand why you had to do it on your own. I’m not mad at you, I’m just glad that you're okay and didn't leave again. If you had left again I would have had to hunt you down and drag you back here by the hair on your head.” I said and he started to laugh. Huh, he thinks I’m joking.

  “So, who was on the phone? And who are Karen and Justin?” National asked and I sighed.

  “The person on the phone is a white witch by the name of Brie, I helped her a few months ago when she was attacked and nearly killed by rogues. She was warning me about this wolf named Kevin and also telling me that she advised his sister Karen to come here for safety. Karen and her mate will be heading here in the next two or three days, so that they can escape her brother and be safe from him. We need to prepare a room for them, so come on let's go.” I said, but National held me in place.

  “Star, there is something that you're not telling me, out with it. Why is this white witch warning you about a wolf named Kevin? What is he planning on doing and what does it have to do with us?” National asked and I knew there was no getting out of this one. I knew I needed to tell him, but I didn't want him to get worried and get stressed out, but before I could say another word the door to my office burst open and a she-wolf stormed inside, growling at me.

  “Who the hell are you?” I asked, unhappy with her level of disrespect.

  “I’m Leticia, I’m the one that is here to challenge you. I want revenge for my sister. You took her mate and killed her.” Leticia replied and I was so confused. Who the hell is her sister? What is she talking about, I stole her sister's mate? I’ve only ever had two mates, Nash and National.

  “What are you talking about? I haven't taken anyone's mate. Who is your sister?” I asked, but then National stepped in front of me.

  “Leticia, Lisa rejected her mate and challenged Star, she lost and she died. So how did Star take her mate?” National asked and it all made sense now. She was Lisa’s sister, okay I take back the not killing part, but I never took her mate, so I don't get that.

  “You were her mate. Lisa told me that you were her mate and that Star took you away from her, lying about you being her mate and that is why Star killed her to get rid of her once and for all.” Leticia said and I was getting pissed off now.

  “Seriously, that's what she told you and you believed her? Lisa’s mate was Devon, he took her away from here because she was going to start trouble and he didn't want that, after they left she rejected him and then wrote a letter to me and Star, pretending to be Devon. She came back here and challenged Star, for her title as Luna, hoping that she would win and that she could become my mate. She begged me to mark her and I refused before Star and I even got together, she was desperate to be Luna and my mate, but I didn't want her. Star is my second chance mate.” National said, explaining everything to her and she looked so lost. I couldn't be angry at her because she was seeking revenge for what she thought was right. She believed her sister, not knowing the full story.

  “Why did….why did she lie to me? Why did he lie to me?” Leticia asked and now I was confused again.

  “Who? Who is he?” I asked, but she just shook her head and ran out of the office crying.

  “Well, that was….different.” I said, but National turned to face me and smiled.

  “Don't think you're off the hook. Now tell me, what's going on with this Kevin?” National asked, wrapping his arms around me so that I couldn't run away.

  “Alright, so Brie said that Kevin wanted her to make some kind of potion that he can pour into my drink and make me want him. She called to warn me about the war that is coming up and about him and his plan. She said that he will be going back to her in a few days to get the potion, so let's get cracking and get Karen and Justin’s room ready. It should only have one window, that way when the war is happening they will be safe.” I replied and tried to brush it under the carpet, but I really wasn't expecting I heard or what happened next.
