BRIAR’S POV In the next six hours, Tavian makes himself scarce. A maid brings me another set of uniforms to change into before a guard arrives to show me to my new room as promised. We walk through the castle to a detachment in the farthest point eastward until the servant quarters come into view. The arrangement is similar to dormitories in high school, with roommates determined by rank. The higher-ranking servants have rooms to themselves, some tiny and others almost as large as a suite. The guard escort ends at the entrance of the female servant quarters, with a small note describing my room number before he leaves me to find my way. Eyes watch me the moment I enter the building, whispers following me every step of the way. Everyone gathers in the center of the hallway, abuzz
