The rabid unfamiliar wolves didn't stop approaching her. It didn't matter if they've crossed the boundary that marked her packs territory. Isabelle shifted without another word shredding her dirty clothes off and standing her ground. Isabelle always thought that shifting was like bursting. Whenever she did shift her body, would suddenly burst into another form that it reminded her of popping.
Isabelle shifted into a big grey wolf that growled in a threateningly at the trespassers. She held her ground but the rogues didn't even flinch at her presence. They continued to slowly make their way towards her. It would be fair to say that she has never in her life fought against wolves outside her pack.
The closest to a fight she's ever had would be with another werewolf from her pack. The she wolf told her that Isabelle didn't deserve to be the Alpha's daughter. Isabelle remembered a powerful growl go through her body. She shifted. The other girl already expected it this and she shifted as well. They fought for what felt like hours. Isabelle and the she wolf snapped at each other biting down on each other's fur and tearing into flesh. Isabelle was easily the winner in that fight. She would like to say it was her fighting skill but Isabelle knows her victory had more to do with her blood than anything else. Having Alpha blood made you stronger and bigger than average.
Apart from that time, Isabelle was never allowed to fight by her father and brother. Although, she was always looking for it. Now, when it was right in front of her she didn't know what to do. The wolf in the middle, she analyzed was bigger than the ones flanking him. His eyes were darkly inhumane and were staring at her with this crazed look as though he's never seen a she wolf before.
All three of them were bigger than her despite her female alpha sized wolf. Observing her opponents, the two that were flanking the middle one were not as big. They were easily identified as males. Two ordinary ones and one that could have had a Beta blood in him judging by his size.
Isabelle wouldn't win this fight, she could tell. As much as she hated to run away, it was the smartest battle strategy. Three fully grown wolves could easily win against her but her wolf was refusing to step back and run. Isabelle had to use all her mental strength to get her wolf to give distance with the three rogues. With enough space between them she would have more room to angle her attacks and defend herself. Hopefully, the pack patrol would come and sniff them out before it was too late.
It was then that the largest of the three rogues lunged for her. Isabelle growled viciously and was about to lung back, when a flash of black caught her eye. The massive black figure pounced just as the rogue was about to bar it's teeth on her. The large intimidating black wolf slammed into the side of the rogue effectively slamming him away from her. Isabelle let out a breath she didn't know she was holding.
The massive black wolf was in front of her in an instant as he recovered from his fall. Gavin. She thought as Gavin backed up even more. He was growling menacingly at the rogues. The one he sent flying just getting back up to his feet. The power that Gavin's wolf was radiating was otherworldly. It was frightening to the point that Isabelle had to close her eyes at the sight of him.
Her wolf legs suddenly gave off as Gavin's wolf took a step back one of his legs went over Isabelle's head looking as though he was on top of her protectively. Though some part of her was happy about her sudden vulnerability and happiness of having her mate protect her, the Alpha blood in her body was screaming at her to suck it up and fight with him.
Acting on instinct, Isabelle made to stand back up but was forced down by Gavin who snapped his head towards her. Silently, ordering her to stand down. Isabelle's wolf immediately identifies the superiority and stays quiet.
Gavin turned back. He easily towered over the rogues his greater -much greater than her own father- size for an Alpha booming with power. It was then that the two lesser rogues flinched and whined. Threatened and frightened by Gavin, they didn't back down leaping forward their jaws open revealing dark sharp teeth.
Gavin didn't miss a beat as he maneuverer his body and launching himself at one of the wolves' legs. There was a certain melodic movement to Gavin's fighting that made Isabelle's heart stop. The crackling sound of bone breaking vibrated through the woods as Gavin bit down on the leg harder. The wolf whimpered and cried loudly yet, Gavin didn't stop there. He let go and lunged at the second wolf. This one, he caught on the neck and Gavin easily ripped the muscle out, the blood gushing out.
Everything else happened in blur as black and dark brown clashed together. There was already an unmoving bloody body on the ground. Gavin continued to fight the other two rogues with a grace of an experienced fighter. The wolf with the broken leg did not last in the fight. His body lay unmoving in Gavin's wolf feet as Isabelle's mate ripped through the wolf's neck muscles delivering the final blow on the second lesser wolf. Gavin's wolf eyes Isabelle realized was pitch black now. No more was the beautiful amber eyes.
Just when Gavin's wolf snapped his head towards the larger brown wolf did the pack patrols came rushing through. They were about a dozen wolves with Damien, Max and Trevor being a one of them. The large rogue must have seen this because he bolted away fast enough that Gavin muzzle missed his shoulder by a hair strand. The pack patrol ran after the escaping rogue crossing pack territory.
Gavin soundlessly came towards Isabelle then his muzzle by her neck like he was smelling her scent and making sure she was unharmed. His wolf -now back to it's beautiful amber eyes- affectionately pushed her wolf's head as if waiting for her to respond. Just when she decided she'd respond to him, Max and Trevor were by her side in an instant. Max's identical wolf licked Isabelle's muzzle. "Are you okay? Are you hurt?" Max's voice asked her with his voice filled with worry. Max's wolf looked towards her body in concern inspecting her for any injuries.
Gavin didn't fight for her attention. He quietly made his way near the border and kept his eyes open for any more trouble. The mere action shook with power and intimidation. This was the power of the Blood Howler's Alpha.
Isabelle's wolf shook her head trying to get away from the licking she received from Max. "Never better." She replied through mind link.
Trevor shifted in front of her. He passed Isabelle a large t-shirt to change into. Thankfully, Max's wolf was large and fluffy enough that it hid Trevor's lower parts.
"You should shift back, Ms. El Bridge." He said softly pressing the shirt towards her pleadingly. Isabelle took it using her mouth as Max jerked his head towards a big tree that could cover her. Slowly, she got up with shaking legs and did what she was told to do. Isabelle walked behind the tree and shifted, pulling on the shirt given to her. As expected, the shirt was incredibly big for her. It hung just above her knees.
Isabelle exited the tree only to be greeted by shouting and snarling coming from Damien and Gavin. Gavin had already shifted back a ragged pair of jeans hanging low. Damien, thankfully, was clothed too by a pair of old shorts.
"What the hell took your patrol so long?!" Gavin half shouted half growled his loud commanding voice booming through everyone's ear. "What if I wasn't here and you took your time with whatever it was that you were doing?"
"I told you before and I'll tell you again! There were a larger number of rogues down south." Damien shot back looking flustered and angry. It was hard for Damien. Despite his age Damien was inexperienced in leadership, unlike Gavin, this was Damien's first time to command the pack through a fight while their dad was away.
They both shut their mouth when Isabelle came towards them. "Calm down both of you." She pleaded putting her hand on each of their chests trying to push them away from each other. "If there's someone to blame it would be me. I smelled them before I saw them yet I didn't run away." Isabelle could feel their heart pounding loudly in their chests through her hands.
"Isabelle." Damien scolded finally after a while. "You can't fight rogues on your own." It was obvious from his voice that he was trying to contain his rage.
Isabelle shot him a look her wolf taking over of the conversation. "And why not?!" Her gaze was challenging. "You think I can't handle myself? I can fight on my own you know. If you only gave me a chance to fight and learn. Instead of being protected like I'm some sort of sickly sister."
"Isabelle, I'm sure that's not what Damien means." Max tried to soothe her, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder. She shook it off, angrily.
"I agree with your brother." Gavin said, looking down at her his eyes darkening. "You should have run away. It was simply the smartest move."
Isabelle's eyes went wide suddenly. She took a step back from the two, fighting back the tears from falling. "That's it then. You both really think I'm helpless and incapable." Hurt coated Isabelle's voice. She turned only to see all of her pack training classmates gathered at the side watching her pitifully. She clenched her jaw angrily before stalking off, Gavin following suit.
She ran pushing her way though the crowd and trees. "Isabelle, wait." She could take her brother's words but for a man as powerful as Gavin who is also her mate to confirm her own weakness, it hurt.
It hurt because she's struggled all her life to prove herself. To show that she was worthy of being the Alpha's Daughter. All her life she was treated differently, hidden away from everyone else. Isabelle trained hard too. Every time she was given an opportunity to prove herself in fighting she did her best to dominate. She should have a chance to protect her pack too. Always people would whisper that she was useless and weak. When she only wanted to protect the same people that mock her.
Isabelle was the daughter of one of the strongest Alpha's for god sakes! She could handle a few rogues and protect her people. She was almost sure of it though, going back to her encounter with the rogues she had to sigh in horror for how she acted.
"Leave me alone, Gavin." She choked out, tears were running down her face like waterfalls and blurring her vision.
Isabelle clumsily lost her footing. She tumbled to the ground but just before she hit the cold hard ground, huge arms engulfed Isabelle lifting her up. "I didn't mean what I said." Gavin's voice was low and just like when they first met it was husky and deep. "I was just worried and angry. I didn't know what I was saying." Gavin tried to explain as he held her up bridal style, and hugged her close to him.
Although Isabelle was still shaken up from the rogues and her fight with Damien and Gavin, she felt secure in Gavin's strong arms. Nothing could harm her with Gavin's arms around her. It was like she was always going to be safe, protected and warm in them. She didn't realize it but her body was slowly slipping into unconsciousness as her body registered her exhaustion from the competition and everything else.
The last thing she remembered before embracing her exhaustion was Gavin's beautiful gold eyes that looked down at her warmly and the steady beat of his heart in his chest lulling her to sleep. Isabelle remembers curling closer to him and smelling his intoxicating smell.
