Ruth was one among many sisters. They were usually sold to rich and powerful men but not Ruth. She was sold to a corrupt school for magic at eleven and now at fifteen she has a lot more troubles than that. Especially when her best friend a demon/mage hybrid falls for her.

We were all here for different reasons and different circumstances.

“Either way you don’t have to be sad. A lot of the students here just accept their fate… I don’t want that to be us.” I sighed. “I’m one of the only humans here and I know there’s a lot of hybrids here. I know you’d have a better change breaking out with some other hybrid girl but I don’t want to let those thoughts get to me.”

-

Jezebeth shrugged. “You’re the only girl who’s been nice to me. I don’t care if we’re against the odds or anything like that… I’d rather break out with you than anyone else…”

I held her hand. “Okay then, we’re going to have a lot of work to do here.” I said and she smiled slightly and looked away.

That’s when I knew Jezebeth would be my friend forever. And maybe something more.

Chapter One: Roommates
I'm not sure if special and rare are the same thing. I'm a human psychic so that makes me rare but I never felt like it make mad me special. I don't get treated like I'm special, I have a lot of sister who are just like me so I always felt normal. Our father never treated us like we're special but more like merchandise. It was stupid of me to believe my father wouldn’t enroll me into The Order for a price. I wasn’t the only one he sold for his own gain. You see my father has eight healthy human psychic daughters. If you ask me we’re his only accomplishment in life so as many with their accomplishments he makes money off us. When we turn nineteen he arranges our marriage with the highest bidder. Human psychics are rare and desired so he gets money and power in exchange for some stranger getting our hand in marriage. He really lucked out with my sister Red because that marriage made him a very rich man. We moved into a huge house and things changed very quickly. My father is greedy and wasn’t satisfied because being rich wasn’t enough for him. He wanted to be as rich as possible and as unannoyed as possible. The order is an organization that teaches young magic users and young psychics like myself  how to reach our full potential so they could turn us into their officers and do their dirty work. I’m not sure how much of that is true because my father told us a lot of things that benefits him. If we believed The Order is evil then he keeps us in his control. I believe it’s true that The Order is corrupt because my mother was a saint and she hated the order as well. At least that’s what my sisters who knew our mother say. My mother died when I was too young to remember.  The Order has been on my Dad’s ass for years. He’s been able to keep us from them but ever since Red started learning magic and growing stronger in the demon realm they want to have the rest of us under their control. They don’t want another one of us ending up in the demon realm because of how the properties in the air will react with our abilities. They want to prevent us from becoming a threat like she is.  Maybe I want to be a threat. A threat to everyone who’s ever hurt or held me back.  There are three realms, the human, demon, and magical. The Order resides in the magical realm and I've lived in the human realm all my life. My father struck a deal with the order. They’ll leave him alone and stop trying to take us by force if he sells one of us to them. He took the deal because it meant he could cash out on his youngest early. Now I think he's just trying to get rid of all of us. He never let us use our psychic abilities because then we'd have a huge target on our back. So now I’m here in a boarding school filled of kids who were ripped away from their families. That wasn’t everyone’s story though. Some kids had no family so in a way the order saved them. I’ve been here for a little over a month now. The classes aren’t boring at least and they’re informative. The officers are strict but I haven’t had too many problems with their rules or anything.  “Ruth, they said we can switch roommates…” Jezebeth said. She was someone I just met here through my sister Red when she came to visit. I could have went with Red but I didn't want to be a burden on her. She made the best of her situation now it was my responsibility to make the best of mine. Jezebeth made it easy for me to. She was polite, cute, and quiet. I didn’t know much about her yet but I plan to know everything. All I knew was we made a pact to look out for each other here. We’re going to use their teachings to become even more powerful than the officers. After we manage to do that we’re going to escape together.  “Good, you're going to have to talk to your roommate and let her know about the switch since both of our roommates have to agree with the switch .” If we’re going to take over the world together then we’re going to have to at least live in the same room together. Jezebeth looked down. “I don’t know…” “Why?” I started cleaning up the room a little.  “Because I don’t want to hurt her feelings.” She answered with a soft tone. “I don’t want her to think it’s personal Ruth.” She pouted. I chuckled. “I’ll go with you. Is she in there now?” She nodded and then followed me out of the room. There were all kinds of posters on the walls in the halls. Some said things like, “Unleash your true power.” And others said things like, “Here we work on ridding the world of evil but first we need to rid the evil in ourselves.” When we got to Jezebeth’s room I walked in after her. “Um… Alice.” She got her attention. Alice was sitting at her desk memorizing spells. We'd have a list of spells we need to memorize every two weeks but magic didn't come easy to me. “Yes?” She turned around.  I gave her a kind smile. “Me and Jezebeth both really want to be roommates. With your permission of course we’d like to switch roommates so Jezebeth can be mine and my roommate can be your new roommate.”  She stood up. “Who’s your roommate?” She asked. “Grace. She’s a mage.” I answered. Most of the kids here were mages, others were hybrids. Alice was a mage too. She rolled her eyes. “Whatever, fine. She sat down and turned back around. “Jezebeth is weird anyways.” She mumbled under her breath. I glared at her. “You don’t have to be an asshole.” I looked at Jezebeth. “Come on, I already talked to my roommate last night. She was cool about it.”  Jezebeth mumbled a spell to collected all her things and teleport them to our room. We left to our room and I threw myself on my bed. “Finally.” I sat up. “So, we should learn about each other. Why are you already so good at magic?”  Jezebeth frowned and sat on the floor with her legs crisscrossed. “My father… he wanted me to help out. Back in the demon realm we helped people. Where we lived it was hard to thrive so me knowing magic was for our and others survival.” One thing I did know about Jezebeth was that she was half demon, half mage making her a hybrid. “I don’t know what they’ll do without me…” Before I thought the order brought her here because she's a hybrid and hybrids are known to be the strongest but she's also a prodigy. I frowned. “Hey don’t worry, I’m sure they’ll manage without you.” I got up and sat next to her on the ground with my knees pulled up to my chest. “My father is the reason I’m here. But f**k him you know? You said your father didn’t even fight for you right? He thought you’d be better off here. We don’t need our fathers or anyone.” I shrugged. She leaned her head on my shoulder and I blushed. “I still think my father is coming.” She expressed. “He saved me from here once, he’ll do it again.” I don’t know if there are other kids here that The Order bought but I know they forcefully took a lot of the other kids. Some parents think magical boarding school is a great idea so they willingly send their kids here. We were all here for different reasons and different circumstances. “Either way you don’t have to be sad. A lot of the kids here just accept their fate… I don’t want that to be us.” I sighed. “I’m one of the only humans here and I know there’s a lot of hybrids here. I know you’d have a better change breaking out with some other hybrid girl but I don’t want to let those thoughts get to me.” Jezebeth shrugged. “You’re the only girl who’s been nice to me. I don’t care if we’re against the odds or anything like that… I’d rather break out with you than anyone else…” I held her hand. “Okay then, we’re going to have a lot of work to do here.” I said and she smiled slightly and looked away. That’s when I knew Jezebeth would be my friend forever.
