Down the stairs walked the most gorgeous guy I have ever seen.
“Well technically it’s my parents who own this ground,” he said with a shrug while pointing to the picture across the hall of what I assumed was his parents.
His parents huh? Damn what a gene pool I thought to myself while looking at the picture and then at him. He could be a model for all I knew.
I could almost see his abs through his shirt. Broad shoulders and the most masculine features I’ve ever seen. Black hair that was nicely pulled back and not even a strand of hair out of place.
And his lips looked so… kissable. Wait… kissable? What the hell am I even thinking… And his eyes. A deep golden-brown color. I could get lost in those forever.
I noticed that he was now looking at me, probably because I was staring at him so intensely. But the way he looked at me was weird. He looked at me as if he tried to read me and failed. He had the most puzzled look on his face. That was until the moment his eyes reached mine. I had no idea of what just happened, but the look on his face went from puzzled, to surprised, to happy, and now to pure anger. The look he gave me was so intense that I whimpered and backed away until I hit Ky’s chest.
“It is going be okay Lia,” he said while rubbing my arms.
I looked up at him and saw how his eyes became dull and then went back to normal. Huh? That’s weird.
“I’m going to be right back, stay here,” was all he said before turning around and following the guy upstairs leaving me with a surprised Cole and Ryan.
What just happened? No one ever said anything?
“Don’t worry, everything is going to be fine,” said Ryan while giving me a small smile.
“You can sit down if you want,” said Cole nodding his head towards a couch.
I just nodded, grabbed my bag, went to the couch, and sat down quietly. While I sat there, I had the chance to look around. A lot of people were walking past me, giving me weird looks, some giving me small smiles. I still didn't understand what was happening or why there were so many people.
Everyone looked like they were close to one another. Almost like a family. That must be nice to have, I thought, while memories of my foster families flooded through my mind.
Shane’s POV
“Keep an open mind? Okay, you are officially freaking me out Ky. Who lives here?” I heard a voice say while I was walking down the stairs.
“I do,” I said and watched as the girl in front of me turned around and looked at me.
“Well technically it’s my parents who own this ground,” I said with a shrug while pointing to the picture of my parents.
Her eyes looked in the direction of where I was pointing and then looked back at me. She looked so small and fragile standing there between Kyle, Ryan, and Cole, and for some reason unknown to me, I didn’t like the fact that they were standing so close to her.
Her long golden hair framed her face beautifully. She was dressed in an oversized t-shirt that I guessed wasn't hers and some black jeans. She looked adorable.
For the next part, things took a turn. I noticed the black and purple bruises on her arms and on the right side of her face. They definitely didn’t get there by accident. It looked like someone deliberately had tried to hurt her. Who in their right mind could hurt someone like her? Someone so innocent?
Then my eyes locked with the most beautiful blue eyes I’ve ever seen, and a shock went through my body.
'Mate!' my wolf screamed at me. 'She is our mate!'
'But she is human?' I stated more to myself.
A human as I mate? I didn't see that coming, but it didn't change anything for me. She was still my mate.
I found my mate.
A mix of emotions ran through my body until I remembered the bruises.
Someone hurt my mate.
My blood was boiling, and anger consumed me.
I didn’t realize I was still looking at her until she whimpered under my stare and started to back away. Kyle held her and rubbed her arms ensuring her that everything would be okay.
That didn’t sit well with me or my wolf.
“My office, now!” I mind-linked Kyle.
“Yes, Alpha," was the response I got back.
I walked up the stairs and went straight to my office. Pacing back and forth I waited for Kyle to get here. When he walked through the door he barely got time to shut it before I turned to him.
“I want an explanation and I want it now,” I said trying to calm myself down.
Kyle began to explain the situation and I could feel myself tense up with every word he said.
“When I got to her, she passed out and that’s why I brought her to the hospital and now why I brought her here,” he said. "I didn't know what else to do."
The silence filled the air as I was looking for the right words to say.
“I can’t let her go back there. He will end up killing her…” he trailed off.
My wolf growled at the thought of someone hurting her.
“He will never touch her again,” I said through gridded teeth. "No one will," I stated.
Kyle gave me a puzzled look at my sudden outburst but didn't question me about it.
“Does she know about you?” I asked him with a small hope that she would.
“No, she doesn’t. She knows nothing of our kind,” he responded.
Damn. This was going to be more difficult than I thought.
