Chapter seven

1076 Words
Talia’s POV  After meeting Shane’s parents three days ago, I felt even more welcome than before if that was even possible. They were both so nice. His mother, Maria, was the most wonderful woman I’ve ever met. We spend a lot of time in the library reading and comparing books we had read in the past. It got to the point where both Shane and his father, Declan, started to complain over the lack of attention. Declan was a very serious man, but once he opened up to you, he was as big of a goof as his son. Shane really got the best parts from both of his parents.  It was now the morning of my birthday and I woke up earlier than everyone else. I had decided to take a walk outside just enjoying the fact that I didn't have to worry about being locked away in my room and also because I’ve given so much of my attention to the library that I completely forgot about the garden that covered most of the ground around the houses.  While walking down the trail to the rose bushes, I completely forgot about my surroundings. I was in a trance by the beauty in front of me. The whole area was surrounded by a beautiful forest. I remember noticing it the first day I arrived here but I haven't been given it a second thought since then. How I forgot about it, I don’t know. I slowly walked in between the trees, taking in as much as I possibly could, and kept walking until I reached a small pond. It all looked like something that had been taken straight out from a fairytale.  I walked down to the water and looked at my reflection. The girl looking back was a different girl from before. This girl was happy. Yeah, she had her scars, but she was standing taller than ever. I smiled at the thought of everything good that came out of such a bad situation. I had never thought that I would ever feel like this. Feel happy. I crouched down by the edge of the pond before I sat down. I was completely in a trance when suddenly I felt another’s presence. I looked around but I couldn’t see anything. It must be my imagination I thought to myself as I slowly got up and walked around the pond to get to the other side.  It didn't take long for me to find a spot where I could sit down and just enjoy the view. I sat down and enjoyed the silence while taking everything in. You could see the top of the mansion over the trees which reminded me that I would soon have to go back. not that I wanted to. I could spend my entire day here not caring about anything in the world. The morning sun that kissed my face sent a relaxing feeling through my body, making me lay down in the grass.  I was half asleep when a low growl got my attention and disturbed my peace. I turned around only to be met by a big pair of red eyes. I froze as the creature slowly began to show itself. Out of the bushes came the biggest wolf I’ve ever seen, not that I had ever seen one, but if I had, this would top it.  I very slowly and very carefully got up and started to take a few steps back, making sure not to make any sudden movements. The wolf let out another growl and this time it showed me its big canines before taking another step in my direction.  I took another step back, trying to enhance the distance between me and the wolf. It all went pretty well until my foot stepped on a branch, making it snap. The wolf bared its teeth and let out a howl before jumping at me. I screamed at the top of my lungs before throwing myself backwards while watching the wolf land where I had been standing a second ago. I scrambled to my feet and began running as fast as I could.  I don’t think I’ve ever run this fast before in my life. I reached the other side of the pond in seconds and started sprinting through the forest towards the house. I could barely breathe, but the adrenaline kept my body going even though every cell in my body was begging for air. I kept running until my feet suddenly couldn’t keep up with me and I fell face-first down to the ground. I turned around the same moment as the wolf made a move to jump at me. This is it I thought to myself while closing my eyes.    Shane’s POV   I was standing with my father in the living room, watching my mother scolding Kyle for forgetting to wrap one of Lia’s birthday presents.  “How could you forget such a thing Kyle?” she asked, obviously disappointed. “I forgot one gift out of like 50!” he pouted making everyone laugh.   The laughter stopped abruptly when we heard the most terrifying scream I’ve ever heard. It caught everyone’s attention making everyone's heads turn towards the direction of the forest.  'Mate!' my wolf growled, telling me exactly what I already knew.  Lia.  I ran out the door without a second thought and shifted the second my feet hit the grass. The screams were getting louder and more painful the closer we got. My wolf howled in pain as we both felt the feeling of bones breaking. The pain continued as well as the screams until suddenly the screaming stopped. I picked up my pace as I followed her scent, which suddenly became more distinctive, to the forest.  I could feel Kyle, Ryan, and Cole’s presence behind me, and my mother and father soon joined us as we ran full speed towards the pond. The sight that met us was pure chaos, to say the least.  A brown wolf getting up from the ground growling at a black wolf with silver strands through the fur. It took me a few seconds to realize that the black wolf wasn’t just anyone.  It was Lia.  It was my mate.
