Chapter six

1114 Words
Talia’s POV Two weeks went by pretty fast. I got new clothes and whatever I needed to get settled in. I finally got to meet some of the other people that were here. It turned out that they didn't live here. They live in the houses surrounding this one. This was more their gathering place. I even heard one of the guys call it a packhouse. Weird right?  Ryan and I became close pretty fast. He was like the brother I never had, and he followed me wherever I went. The same goes for Ky, but that was the way it had always been. Cole has kept his distance most of the time. He rarely joined the conversations, but he was always there just tagging along. I also spent quite a lot of time with Shane. He was very protective of me and I often caught him staring at me. Call me weird, but I didn't mind it. It for some odd reason made me calm whenever he is around. Just knowing that he was there made me feel safe. Like no one would dare to touch me.  Most nights I would still have nightmares of some of the things my Eric did to me. Since Shane’s room was right next to mine, he was always in the room in a matter of seconds to wake me up and comfort me. That resulted in many late-night conversations about everything and absolutely nothing. The good thing about him was that he didn't ask the many questions that people would normally ask. He would just let me talk and if I ever opened up to him about one of my dreams, he would just comfort me and would tell me that that would never happen again. I didn't exactly know what it was about him, but whenever he was around, I felt calm. One touch from him could make all of my worries go away. One smile from him could brighten my day. Not that I would ever admit that to anyone.  All in all, I felt happy here. I felt safe and for the first time ever feel like I have a family even though I hadn't been here for long. No ordinary family but it still counted. Especially Mrs. K. She was like the grandma of the house, keeping everyone in check. The grandma I never had. Oh, and big news. Today I found out that Shane’s parents will be coming home. They have been on a trip to see some friends for the past 2 weeks. I felt nervous as hell but also very excited about meeting them.  “Good morning,” I sang while entering the kitchen.  “Good morning dear,” said Mrs. K while putting a plate in front of me.  “Why does she always get more bacon than us?” Ky whined.  This woman, I love. I always got more than the guys.  “That is because she likes me more,” I said with a smirk causing Mrs. K to laugh.  After eating I found myself back at the library. I’ve been spending a lot of time here since I came. I was so lost in my book that I didn’t even notice a woman walk in before she was standing right in front of me.  “Oh, hello there,” she said with a smile.  “I didn’t expect to see anyone in here,” she added.  She looked oddly familiar.  “I see you found one of the good books,” she pointed out after I didn’t say anything.  I snapped out of my daze and quickly gave her a smile.  “Yes, this book is amazing,” I agreed.   She walked over and sat in the chair next to me.  “I can definitely see why my son is so smitten with you,” she said.  Hold up. Her son?  “Yes,” she said nodding her head when she saw the confusion in my face. “Shane told us a lot about you.”  Oh, so she is Shane’s mother. That is why she looked familiar. The photo in the hallway.  “I’m so sorry. I got so lost in the book that I completely forgot that you’d return home today,” I said a bit embraced.  “Don’t you worry about that,” she said.  “I get lost in the books so often that my husband has to drag me out of here,” she laughed.  This woman was a copy of Shane, that's for sure.    Shane’s POV   When the car pulled up into the driveway, I walked out the door. My mother came around and pulled me into a big hug while my father came around the car trying to carry the many bags belonging to my mother.  “Who even needs so many bags,” he mumbled.  “Oh, hush now dear,” my mother said while looking at me.  “So, tell me, how is everything?” she asked.  “Everything is fine mom,” I said while looking at my struggling father.  “We can talk about everything when we get settled in,” he said while walking to the house.  “Now where did your mother go?” my father asked when we reached the living room.  “I have no idea,” I said looking around.  My mother reminds me of Lia in that way. Turn your back to her for 5 minutes and she’s run off to god knows where.  “Let’s go to the office. I want to hear what’s been going on while I’ve been gone,” my father said while putting down the last of the bags.  We reached the office and I started to tell him everything about Lia. About how she was my mate, about her foster parents, and our suspicions as to who or more like what she is.  “Well it would make sense,” my father stated after a few minutes. “And she has no clue to what is going on here?” he asked raising his brow.  “No, we have been keeping it under the radar for now,” I said.  “Well, I think we should talk with her soon,” he said. “It is her birthday in 4 days, right?” he asked.  “Yes, it is,” I sighed still nervous about her reaction to all of this.           This could either go incredibly well or incredibly bad.
