Alice - POV "Capture this man, guards," Isha ordered, rushing to my side with a concerned expression. "Let go of me. You don't know who I am," Jefferey growled. "I know you're an abusive and toxic man who mistreats his mate," Isha hissed. "Shut up, you b***h," Jeffery spat through clenched teeth. "I told you not to interfere in my family matters. You know I'm a noble dragon. I'll sue you, Isha. you f*****g bitch." "Mind your tongue, Mr. Claire," a sweet feminine voice with a sharp edge interrupted. My eyes widened in surprise. "Queen Ella," I whispered as Isha helped me stand. "You claim to be a noble dragon, but the way you speak to women makes me doubt your noble bloodline," Queen Ella said coldly, making Jeffery shiver. I could see the hatred reflected in his eyes as he looked at Queen Ella. The guards took me away to be put in the dungeons. "Isha, you did well in calling me," Queen Ella said. I stood marveling at her beauty; she looked like a goddess. "You must be Alice," Queen Ella said, her soft blue eyes on me. I nodded, my voice failing to come out. Queen Ella cautiously moved towards me, observing the scars on my arms and the bruised face I got from yesterday's flogging by Jeffery. "Isha, take her to our Royal Doctors and get her treated," Queen Ella said as she gracefully glided out of the room. Isha and I gawked at Queen Ella's frame for a few seconds. Jeffery was kept in the dungeons until the trial. I dressed. "Hydra, I'm nervous," I whispered, looking in the mirror and seeing how pale my face was with fear. "Don't be nervous. I stand by you on every decision, and you need to be free from Jeffery, that asshole," Hydra said, with sadness in her voice, as it was hard for her to separate from our mate. But she would stand by me. I wiped my tears and took a few deep breaths. Isha stood in the hallway, and we left to reach the rejection mating cave from her home. I had been staying with her for a few days because the memories of Jeffery and my past haunted me in my apartment. A few days passed in a blur as our lawyers presented the facts and evidence against each other to the King and Queen. The day of judgment had arrived, and the pressure of the verdict weighed heavily on me. "Alice, calm down; here, drink this," Isha said. "What is this?" I asked, taking the strange-smelling liquid. "It's an herbal tea from my town called Calm; Grandma made a batch for you to calm your anxious nerves." I smiled at her and took a sip, enjoying the taste. Just then, the Queen and King entered the room. When the verdict was read, it was in my favor. Jeffery was furious with the court's decision, and the guards had difficulty subduing him with a magical shackle. He was eventually knocked out, and they dragged him away. "Alice," Queen Ella said, drawing my attention. "Yes, Your Majesties," I replied, bowing respectfully. I was genuinely grateful to them for helping me escape a difficult and abusive situation. "You can raise your head," King Darcus said kindly. "I am here to inform you about the mating rejection rituals. The witches will be here tonight to prepare everything. I can postpone the ritual until tomorrow if you need more time to recover," Queen Ella offered. "Queen Ella, I am fine. I want to proceed with the ritual today," I said. Queen Ella nodded her approval, and the King and Queen left the cave. Isha then instructed the guards to summon the doctor and witches to prepare for the ritual. As I sat in the cave, the witches began drawing symbols on the floor and chanting, while drawing more characters. I could feel Hydra's nervousness, which mirrored my own. Soon, the guards brought in Jeffery, who was bound in shackles and looked worn out from the shackle magic controlling his dragon. The Queen and King entered the cave wearing colorful black outfits. "I am against rejection, Your Majesty," Jeffery growled as the guards placed him in the center. "You have no say in this anymore, Mr. Claire. We have enough evidence against you to break this bond and give Alice her freedom," Queen Ella said sternly. Jeffery glared at the Queen with hatred. "You better keep your eyes down, or else I will not hesitate to kill you," the King warned, and Jeffery bowed his head, flinching at the King's cold and dark aura. The witches positioned me opposite Jeffery, who gave me a hateful look. As the ritual began, a sharp pang coursed through my body. "I won't let the mate bond break," Jeffery moaned in pain as the witch's chants grew louder. I couldn't help but groan in despair as my body felt as heavy as a rock. I saw the red thread floating in the air, visible to my eyes as the witch with the knife approached the thread. "No, don't cut the mating thread. Alice is mine," Jeffery hissed. The witch ignored him and severed the thread, causing a sharp ache in my heart. I fell to the ground as my legs gave out. "Alice," Isha came to my side, followed by the doctor, who treated me. ******** Ten Days Later Queen Ella had granted me a wish to start a new life in the human realm. I stood outside the California airport, trying to hold back nausea from teleporting from the dragon realm. My cousin Levy, who was human and not a dragon shifter, was on her way to meet me. We used to be close, but we grew apart after my parents died from an illness, leaving me alone at fifteen. Although I had ample wealth and a caretaker, I felt lonely until I met Jeffery on my eighteenth birthday. He became my mate, and my life turned into a nightmare. "Alice," a woman with long, chocolaty brown hair, onyx eyes, and tan skin greeted me. She was dressed like a model. "You didn't recognize me," she said. It took me a moment to realize that it was Levy. "Wow, you look like a model," I said, surprised by her appearance. "Because, Dumbo, I am a model," she said, flicking her hair back. The driver took my backpack and put it in the car. Levy told me she had missed me and always waited for me to call her. "I'm sorry for not keeping in touch, Levy," I said. I used to be in touch with her, but after I found Jeffery, I stopped contacting Levy because I feared Jeffery might harm her because of me. "Don't be so gloomy. I'm happy you're staying with me," Levy said with a smile. "I'm here to get a job and start a new life in California," I whispered. Levy asked, "You did a master's in LLB in Criminal Justice, right?" I nodded. It surprised me that Levy remembered this, as she often forgets things. "I have a friend who has an opening for a paralegal job in his firm. I'll set up an interview for you," Levy said, speaking with her friend on the phone. "That would be great," I said, looking out the window as the car drove off. Over the next week, I caught up with Levy and learned about her struggles to become a model. Levy shared details about her dating life, including how her ex-boyfriend had cheated on her and how she had kicked him to the curb. Hearing her story made me ashamed that I wasn't strong enough to stand up against my abusive mate, After a week, I stood in front of the mirror, getting ready for my interview. "Good luck, little sis; break a leg," Levy said as I headed to my interview, feeling nervous about my first one. The receptionist informed me that the interview would be with the CEO, James Davis, more directly than any other management. "Come in," an icy voice said as I entered the room. As I looked up from Mr. James Davis' laptop, I froze at the sight of the strikingly handsome man. His sharp jawline, well-set brown hair, and onyx eyes gazed at me, and I could sense the powerful dark magic surrounding him. The scent of fresh green grass filled the air, and I felt a powerful pull towards Mr. Davis, like a magnet. "No, he can't be my second mate," I whispered in disbelief as I saw the red thread connecting us.
