CHAPTER 2: PRINCE KEV

"What powers do you have?" Kev asked while they were walking in the corridor.
"I use the wind element. Czarina uses the Fire element," Yin proudly said. "What about you?"
"Cool!" Kev opened his palm and released a sword made of ice. "This is my power."
"That was amazing!" Yin exclaimed. "I haven't seen an ice controller!"
"You'll see a lot here in the capital." He looked at Czarina. "Can you show me your fire power?"
"Sure!" She opened her palm and released a small ball of energy, a size of a tennis ball. "I can make a bigger one but I won't do it here. I still can't control my power."
"That's pretty much amazing. What level are you now?"
"Intermediate level four," Czarina shyly replied. "I still need a lot of training to grow."
"I'm sure you will." He looked at Yin. "What about you?"
"Intermediate. I’m at level three." He grinned.
Prince Kev sighed. "Same, but level two." He scratched his head.
"We will surely develop our powers." Yin tapped Kev's arm.
"But those kids with the same age as ours already at level five and ready to break through to the Lord level anytime soon."
"I'm sure we can make it, that's why we're here," Czarina said. "I will become a Royal Master someday!"
She raised her arms and smiled wickedly.
"You know what, you and my father have the same smile," Kev said.
"No freaking way!" Czarina looked around. "Don't ever say that or I'll be dead!"
"Why's everyone so aloof with the king? He's the nicest person I know." He did a thumb’s up and winked.
"He's still the king," she whispered.
They stopped at the front door with a sign board written Principal's Office.
"We didn't have a hard time finding this room." Yin put his hands on his waist. Kev knocked on the door three times. They heard a male voice, he said come in. Kev turned the knob and pushed the door slightly. The room is big enough to hold a gathering for twelve or more. There's a man seated behind the office table at the far end of the room. His hair and mustache are all white. He's wearing eyeglasses. His eyes show wisdom and knowledge. On his table, there's a name plate saying Principal Zmaj Reeva.
"Good morning, kids," he greeted. "How can I help you?"
"Good morning, Principal," Kev greeted the principal back. "We're new students for this semester."
"Great, what are your names?" He waved his hands and checked a black log book.
Kev gestured to Czarina to go ahead first. "Czarina Liu," she said.
"Right, you're entering Intermediate class A. Your dorm number is 22A, second floor, on the left wing at the far end of the next building." He looked at her. "You have a special room and it's all paid in advance." He seemed shocked. He rechecked the room number and went back to look at her and her clothes. She's wearing a knock-off grey skinny pants and white crop top from the street market, paired with an old black jacket from her mother. "Anyway, next, please."
Yin cleared his throat. "I'm Yin Chiu."
He tapped on the black log book and the pages automatically flipped. "Intermediate class A, right wing, first floor, Dorm 2B. It's a mixed dorm with 5 other students. Next."
"Kev Zariste," he said. He flipped his hair, like his usual mannerism.
The principal seemed more shocked upon hearing his surname. He stood up and bowed to the prince. "I'm sorry for not recognizing you, Prince Kev."
"It's okay, it doesn't matter. It's my first time showing up in the academy and I don't show up in gatherings." He waved his hand to make him sit down.
The principal sat down and ironed his clothing using his hands. "You'll be staying at the left wing, dorm 22B, Your Highness. Same class with them."
"Thank you," he simply replied.
"Your classes will start next week. You can get your uniforms later on. They will send those to your respective rooms. Meals are served every six o'clock in the morning, twelve for lunch and seven o'clock for dinner. All included in your fees. Czarina and Prince Kev will have their meals at the second floor, while you, Yin, will have yours at the ground floor of the dining hall." He closed the black log book and made it disappear.
"Why? Is there a difference in our meals?" Kev asked.
"The meals served at the second floor are a complete set, from appetizers down to desserts, and prepared with utmost care. The meals served at the first floor are just the typical two-course meals and a drink," Principal Reeva explained.
"Can I eat on the first floor if I want to?" Czarina asked.
"Yes, you can, but those assigned on the first floor can't eat on the second floor."
"Can Yin have his meals there if I want to?" Kev asked. He crossed his arms to intimidate the principal.
"Of course, he can. If someone from the second floor invited a student from the first floor, it's permitted." He fixed his eyeglasses and cleared his throat. "You're all dismissed. Welcome to Zariste Masters Academy!" He raised his both arms to welcome them.
"Thank you, Mister Principal," Kev said. He finds the principal a little weird. "We'll go ahead." He turned his back and walked out of the room.
Czarina and Yin waved their arms to say goodbye to the principal before going out of his room and followed Kev.
"Are we going to our dorm now?" Yin asked.
"Why? It's too early!" Kev replied. He winked at Yin and Czarina.
"What are you thinking?" Czarina is skeptical with what's playing on his mind.
"Let's explore the capital!" Kev opened his arms like what Principal Reeva did.
"Are you out of your mind?!" Czarina shockingly replied. "A prince will roam the capital without his soldiers?!"
"What? I haven't done it before. I'm free now." He fixed his collar, then he grinned.
"You really want us to get punished, eh?" She suspiciously looked at him.
"Of course not!" Kev denied. "We're friends now, right? Let me tour you in the capital." He turned around and started walking towards the exit door.
Czarina and Yin looked at each other, but still followed Kev. They can't let him walk alone in the capital.
