Chapter 3

2073 Words
Jordan's POV I don't know why I took this meeting. I guess boredom. Everyone is busy with their families now and, since we aren't looking for Snow anymore, I just worked at the hotel doing security, and I'm bored. I have never done well, just sitting there watching the cameras and once in a while, I get to throw someone out of the casino. I needed some more action. I was far from being ready to retire and live the boring life. Not yet, someday maybe. I parked my bike at the closest space to the bar and headed inside. Grey had been calling me for a week now trying to get me to come down. After about the tenth call, I finally gave in and told them I would come to the strip and meet with them tonight. This place could be trouble if you aren't careful. Not the type of trouble you want either. The cops wouldn't come here with a ten-foot pole. Besides, they pay the cops off so they don't come the f**k around here. Around here you are going to find guys that will kill, over being looked at the wrong way, or girls that will stab you in the back for looking at their man and so many drug deals that it's not even funny. I walked into the bar and went straight to the counter and ordered a whiskey neat. Damn Reign and his whiskey. He got me hooked on it and now if I drink, this is what I want. No sooner than I sat down to enjoy my drink did Grey walked up to me. "Let's go," he said and turned and walked away. I weaved my way through the crowd. It was a Friday night and this place was packed. I had to turn sideways to get through in a few places. Most people moved out of my way. I was large and could be a little scary looking. When we moved through the dance floor, all you could smell was alcohol, sweat and hormones. Not a pleasant combination. Grey opened a door in the back of the bar, and we headed down a hallway that was narrow and dimly lit. This place used to be a strip mall, but the three brothers turned it into a few different things. They had their bar and a strip club and a crappy casino, but people were constantly there. They also held underground fights and had street racing. I'm sure there were other things, but those were the only things that I knew about. Finally, we went into an office with the other two brothers there. Conner and Killian were sitting there. Killian wasn't around much, but the other two I had dealt with several times through Reign. I drank down the rest of my whiskey and sat down in the chair they pointed to. "Want another drink?" Conner asked. "Nope, I have a policy of not getting drunk while doing business." I said, and he just nodded at me, like it was a test. "We have a job for you," Grey said and pushed a file towards me. "I figured," I said, being sarcastic, but they didn't find me funny. I pulled the file closer and opened it up. The first thing there was a picture of a man. He looked like he was a p***y. Also like a creep. I moved the picture away and the next page read like a job resume. Brian Escamilla. He owned a few legal businesses. Restaurants mostly, and after that there was a gun trade. He was moving a lot of guns according to this and a lot of money. He had a contract with the cartel. "What do you need me to do?" I asked, closing the file. "We need as much information on him as you can get. We are eventually going to want him dead." Conner said. "And just how do you expect me to get information on him?" I asked. I mean I could, but I wanted to know what they expected of me. "He is getting married soon, and he needs a bodyguard for his soon-to-be wife," Grey said, and then slid another folder over to me. I opened it up and this one was of me but my new identity. Jason Culler. Military still, the same age, lives in Great Falls, single, no children, skilled with guns, knives and a master of hand-to-hand combat. A job resume that wasn't really too far off from my real resume. He did leave out the fact that I worked at the hotel and that wasn't lost on me. It had a new ID and credit cards with my new name. "So how do you expect me to get this job? Doesn't he have guys that can do this?" "He wants someone new. He doesn't trust his soon-to-be wife or her father at this time, and he wants someone that's going to scare her. She can be a bit of a wildfire. You are going to show up here telling him you heard through the grapevine that he was looking for security, and you are needing a new job." Grey said, pushing another piece of paper across the table to me. "What's the job pay?" I asked and, like they'd done all night, they pushed another piece of paper across the table to me. It had two different figures on it. Two very large figures. Something I could live on for the rest of my life. Not that I was hurting for money because I wasn't thanks to some smart investments. "The first figure will be wired to you when you secure the job and the second will be wired to you when we tell you to kill him and that's given that you've provided the information to us that we want." Killian said. "I'm assuming that you want an answer tonight?" "I don't think we really gave you the option of taking the job or not. We know you are the best and so you will do it," Killian said just so matter of fact. I guess it was a good thing they were willing to pay me good money. "I'll be in touch tomorrow night," I said and grabbed everything and walked out of their office, leaving them there. If I was going to do this, and I didn't have a choice, I needed to get some s**t packed and scope out the town and try to find a place to stay. I guess that's what the credit card was for, because I wasn't paying for that s**t. I shoved the folders under my seat and took off towards my little apartment. I got up early the next morning and threw my clothes in a bag and when I opened the front door to my apartment, there was a box sitting there. I grabbed the box and opened it. A new cell phone was sitting in it with a note that said this was my new phone for now and to not contact anyone from my past with it or in front of my new employer. I sighed and put the phone in my pocket and threw the box in my apartment and left. I called everyone I needed to last night and told them what was going on. They weren't overly happy about the fact that I was taking this job, but it would all be fine. It was a good chance to set myself up for the rest of my life. A few hours later I pulled up to the restaurant address I had. I powered off my old phone and put it in the glove compartment and headed inside the restaurant with the resume that they had printed off for me. "I'm sorry sir, we are closed," someone said when I walked inside. "Yes, I'm aware. I was looking for Mr. Escamilla. I was told that he was looking for some help." I said and handed them my resume. "Don't move," they said and walked away. I looked around the restaurant, and it was fancy, like really fancy. It looked like the tables were made from mahogany and the walls were a deep maroon and there was a giant chandelier that I was sure was crystal. "Jason," a man said behind me and when I turned around, the big-nosed fucker was standing there. This man just gave me creepy vibes. I can't believe that some women would agree to marry him. "You must be Mr. Escamilla," I said, and stuck my hand out. "Yes, and I hear you are looking for a job? Can I ask how you heard about it?" he said, shaking my hand. "I just moved to town and heard some people talking at a bar last night about how you were looking for someone." I told him, and he looked me up and down and then motioned for me to follow him. He took me back to his office, which was even nicer than the rest of the restaurant. How much money did this man have? I mean, if he was running guns with the cartel, I knew he would have deep pockets, but his pockets had to be extremely deep. He motioned for me to sit down in the chair. "I can see from your resume that you have the skills if I can assume they are true," he said, raising an eyebrow at me. "They are, sir. I am highly trained by the military, but I've retired from that, and now I just pick up odd security jobs to get by, but I'm tired of moving around and want to settle down somewhere for a while, and it sounds like you have a permanent position open." "I do, but can I trust you with my soon-to-be wife?" "Of course, sir. Her safety will be my number one priority." I told him, and he grabbed his phone off his desk and typed something in and then turned it around to show me a picture of her and my breath caught looking at her. I had never seen a more beautiful creature in my life, and she is marrying this bozo. She has to be a gold digger because she is so far out of his league it's not even funny. Hell, she is so far out of my league it's not even funny. That long chocolate hair that looked like silk and those deep rich brown eyes and the radiant smile that lit up her entire face, hell it was just a picture, and it was lighting up this room. "While she is beautiful, sir, she really isn't my type. I enjoy a night with a woman once in a while, but I do tend to go the other way," I told him and I had no clue why, but I had to get him to trust me, so I could meet this woman in person. "Bullshit, I want some sort of proof of that," he said, and I grabbed my phone out of my pocket, "Hold on, new phone, so I don't have any pictures because my dumbass never backed them up." I told him, which was a total lie. I sent a quick text to Jake and told him to send me a picture of him and Dominic kissing. He would never know it wasn't me because we looked just alike. My phone buzzed quickly with the picture and I deleted the message I typed out and then put the picture up and showed him. He started laughing, "I don't judge what you do in your spare time, but when you are on the clock you will watch my soon-to-be wife. You will make sure she stays safe and, secondly, you will make sure she stays in line and doesn't try to run. If she does, you do what is needed to keep her from running and then call me." "What does the job pay?" I asked, and again with the writing things on paper, but he wrote down a number and slid it over to me. I nodded at him and then we shook hands. "I like you. Do you have a place to stay yet?" "Nope. Been sleeping in my car." "Come stay at my place, we have plenty of room," he said, and just like that, I was in. Easy-peasy.
