I must have fallen asleep on the journey as when I opened my eyes we were parked on a clifftop, Kane was already outside the car sat on the front of the bonnet looking out over the town below us that lit up like a Christmas tree.

I pushed open my door and stepped out of the car, walking around to Kane I looked at his face, he seemed deep in thought the serious frown he had etched on his face made me feel slightly uneasy.

For him to bring me all this way just to talk to me, what was so bad that he couldn't have spoken to me at home. I knew it must have had something to do with this Lydia.

“So are we going to talk or have we just come to sightsee?” I joked to try and break the tension in the air.

Kane looked at me the serious expression he had moments ago eased, the corners of his lips turned up just slightly letting me know he was amused by my wit. “Always so impatient” he smirked and reached out taking my hands, pulling me into him I stood between his legs as he wrapped his arms around my waist.

I leaned back away from him, I couldn't move too far as I was caged in by his legs, “I'm still mad at you, you know!”

He smiled playfully, he has the most gorgeous smile and he knows it's my weakness. Looking away from his face I watched his hair as it moved in the wind, “I know! I also know how cute you are when you're annoyed at me” I felt his hands on my hip squeezing them slightly as he kept his eyes on mine.

I rolled my eyes at him as “Well there is no cuteness today! Just one pissed off mate!” I threw back at him as I stepped back forcefully, knocking his balance he took hold of the bonnet of the car to steady himself.

I walked away from him towards the cliff edge looking out to the lights, I heard Kane sigh loudly behind me “I'm sorry, I know I've been a bit of a d**k”

I scoffed “A bit?” I looked back at him with raised brows.

“Ok, maybe alot”

“Hmm, that's more like it” I turned back to look at the lights in front of me,

“Look, I'm sorry for bringing Lydia back with me, I sort of didn't have a choice really”

I turned around to see if he was serious right now “Didn't have a choice?” he looked at me with pleading eyes “You always have a choice Kane, but you chose to stay away for the third night leaving me worrying, coming back each time stinking of that w***e! Then have the audacity to parade her around our home in front of me, making me feel uncomfortable”

“Stop!” He sighed as he came to my front taking hold of my hands, looking down at me I tried to look away but he was quick to take hold of my chin and make me look up to his ocean eyes.

“I never had any intentions of making you feel uncomfortable, She knows how important you are to me and I think the subtle right hook you gave her made it quite clear your not to be messed with” he smirked.

I couldn't help but smile, it did feel good when I hit her, normally I would never do such a thing but she just angered me and my wolf. “She's lucky that's all she got, my wolf wanted to rip her head off”

“Well, if just for a few days she could refrain from killing her, it would be a big help” he brushed a stray piece of hair behind my ear.

I squinted my eyes at him and pushed his hand away from my face “Why are you so bothered about her getting hurt? Who is she?”

He took a deep breath and stepped back from me “She was the one I was supposed to mate with” he looked down at the ground.

“WHAT!” I shouted at him, not believing what I had just heard, I stepped towards him “You brought her back to mate with her!” I began to scold him.

“Just wait!” He held his hands up “let me explain, please!” he pleaded.

I opened my arms waiting for his explanation “well please, go ahead! Tell me about your mate!” I scoffed, I turned around as I felt the tears beginning to build in my eyes.

“Embry, just please listen to me” He continued to plead, I felt his hands on my hips, jolting forward I slapped his hands off of me, I was quick to put distance between us as I walked several feet away from him.

“come on then, tell me!”I looked at him as I paced up and down, running my hand through my hair keeping it out of my face.

“I only found out a couple of weeks ago, I was away at Victor's pack, the Howler's have always conducted a lot of business but there was never any mention of this. It wasn't until I went to visit there when I met Lydia and it all came out. I promise you nothing has happened between me and her”

“I'm not stupid Kane you wreaked of her, she was all over you even in front of me”

“Yes I know, she is a bit full-on at times, she is a bit obsessed with me, I mean she was told all her life that I was her chosen mate”

“Why bring her into our home, you must have known it would of all come out” I shouted.

“I didn't plan on bringing her back, I was coming home alone. But as I was leaving they were attacked, if I hadn't of been there their entire pack would have been wiped out. Her mother was killed, and so was a lot of her friends. Victor wanted me to bring her here and keep her safe while they travelled to his brother's pack. Once they know they it's safe there her men are coming back for her”

I stood with folded arms listening to his story “Sounds like you got played to me”

“What?”

“Oh, please Damsel in distress, yes I'm sorry her pack got attacked and for her mother dying but she hardly looked as though she was a grieving daughter. Can you not see this is probably just part of his plan to push the two of you closer together?”

Kane shook his head “Embry, she's lost nearly everyone she knows. Besides, Victor said he was choosing another mate for her now I had found you. He didn't know I had already mated”

“This still doesn't explain to me why three times you have stayed there overnight, why did you keep going back?”

“I think there is more to this whole chosen mate thing, I wanted to try and find out what other business went on between Victor and my father. I managed to get into his office and he had a lot of research hidden under his desk, research about my pack, about me, and more importantly about you”

“How me? You said he didn't know you had mated” I questioned.

“Exactly! He must have been lying” he shrugged.

“Why lie?”

“That's what I want to know, something's just not right. I have a feeling he had a lot more dealings with my father than he has let on.

“So I have to put up with her all over you like a fly around s**t!”

He shook his head and stepped closer to me, “No, I've told her you are my mate and as harmless as her intentions are they will upset you. And upsetting you is the last thing I want to do. She knows my heart belongs to you”

I took a deep breath trying to make sense of everything he had just said. “I want to go home, I don't like her Kane, If she oversteps the mark again I will give her more than just a punch!” I walked around him and back to my side of the car, getting in I slammed the door and watched as Kane came to get in also.

“I'm not asking you to like her Em, hell I'm not that keen on her myself but I have to keep her safe until I can send her off to her Uncles pack” He explained as he turned the ignition on.

“Well, at least I know why you brought me all the way out here, afraid I was going to find out your secret and go and kick her ass!” I said sarcastically.

“No! I wanted to tell you without her listening, she has a habit of just appearing and eavesdropping in on peoples conversations”

“perfect, this is going to be fun then!” I muttered as I looked out the window as we pulled off and headed back down the cliff road.

“I need to speak to the others and tell them, but getting them alone and away from the house might prove difficult, so I need you to fill them in if you can get some time with them, please”

“Hmm!” I hummed, I was too angry to even speak to him right now.

“Embry, please, I really didn't intend on you finding out like this” his hand cupped my chip in an attempt to turn me to face him but I shrugged him off, “Please just take me home”
