Words couldn't describe the emotions that were running through me right at this moment, Standing here looking at the very person I was always told to fear, the very reason we were never allowed to enter the forest past a certain point, so why was he here? what did he want?

Slowly he took a step towards me keeping his eyes focused on my movements, was he going to hurt me for speaking to him like that? if he was able to overpower both my father and brother I stood no chance.

I began to back up towards the doorway causing him to stop in his tracks, his facial expressions were hard to read, he didn't look angry, I could be wrong I mean I don't even know this man, it was hard to see him properly, his black as night hair had fallen partly over his eyes.

We both stood like statues, just watching one another.

Someone clearing their throat to my right distracted me, he walked towards me slightly holding up his hands still keeping a good six feet distance between us, "It's ok, we are not here to hurt anyone, I swear, Im Ryder and this is Kane" He gestured to the man in front of me who was still looking at me intently.

"Not here to hurt anyone? it didn't look that way when I walked in" I replied not looking at Ryder but between Kane and my father.

"No everything's fine Embry it was just a misunderstanding" my father tried to explain, coming to my side pressing his hand to his side gasping at the obvious pain he had just endured.

"Why are you defending him?"

"Im not, there's alot you don't understand sweetheart"

"clearly" I snapped back at him,

"Why are you here" I directed my question at Kane, he looked down at the floor as though he was contemplating what to say, he raised his hand running his fingers through his hair finally looking at me once again, "we found your brother trespassing on our land" his voice was low, quite intimidating actually.

"so what, you thought you would bring him back here so you could knock him around a bit, decided that wasn't enough so started on my father as well" had I really just said that, where had my bravery come from, I'm probably not helping this situation right now, but I was angry how dare this brute come into my home and lay his hands on my family.

He sat back on the edge of the table resting his hands on his knees, he dropped his head, taking in what I had just said to him he started to shake his head slowly and laughed, it was a low throaty and sounded evil, how dare he laugh at us.

I could feel the anger rising, I wanted to give him a piece of my mind, drag him out of this house tell him I rejected him I didn't want a mate like that, how could I have been paired with such a monster.

It was Ryder who was now in front of me, I presumed this was Kanes Beta sensing things are getting pretty heated "Ok, let's just sit down and speak like adults here, I think there has just been a complete misunderstanding obviously you haven't been told about.."

"Save your breath" Kane cut in, the smile now gone from his face "she's already made her mind up about what she sees here, haven't you, Embry" The way he said my name, it felt strange, I didn't know how to respond to him, how else should I of perceived the whole situation, I don't know these men, why would I think any different right now.

"Hunny let's go upstairs and let the men take care of this, ok" My mother took hold of my arm giving me a persuasive tug to encourage me to go with her.

"I don't think that's necessary, we are leaving" Kane stated standing upright.

"Yeah, that I agree on" I mumbled standing to the side so the two men could walk by me to the front door, but he didn't leave he stood staring at me his eyebrows raised as though I should know what he was trying to insinuate.

"what? go, leave already" I pointed towards the door.

"Do you plan on walking into Blackwood barefoot?" Kane looked at my feet.

"I'm not going to Blackwood, I'm not going anywhere with you" I shot back at him raising my voice slightly, was this man deranged, he must be to turn up and demand I go with him, not even asking for my consent first.

As though he read my mind, he gave me a warning stare "I'm not asking"

"And I'm not going" I replied sarcastically, crossing my arms over my chest matching his warning glare.

"Please, you said this would never happen" my mother shouted pleading with him.

"And you said no harm would come to her but look at the state of her" he retaliated, making me feel a bit self conscious, I knew I wasn't looking my best right now but surely I wasn't that bad.

"Don't speak to my mother like that, who do you think you are" I scolded.

"f**k this" Kane mumbled coming at me, I brace myself for whatever was about to happen no doubt he was going to punish me for going against him, what I didn't expect was for him to take hold of my hips lifting me and throwing me over his shoulder. "Let's go" he shouted back to Ryder,

"What are you doing, put me down" I began shouting, as I hit his back.

As Kane headed out the front doors of my house I could hear shouting behind me coming from my family, pleading with Ryder to stop Kane. This made me begin to panic, was he really taking me to the Blackwood pack, what was going to happen to me there, I had heard the stories of him already finding his mate he took her back and tortured her, she died by his hand and I wasn't about to let that happen to me, I needed a plan now.

"ok, ok ill go with you, just put me down, I need to say bye to my parents, please" I tried to sound upset but sincere enough that he would believe me. My pleas were obviously heard, he stopped, I could feel his shoulders tense beneath me as he was considering my request.

His hands slowly moved to my hips again as he lifted me gently and slid me down his front, I placed my hands on his shoulders to steady myself, I would be lying if I said it felt wrong, the heat radiating from his body was like a furnace, usually, im not one for human contact especially with a complete stranger but I couldn't deny my body liked the feeling of this heat. God Embry get a grip I told myself, mentally kicking myself into gear I stepped back from him, shaking off the thoughts I was having, reminding myself if I give into him and go I will be in a box by the end of the week.

"Don't be long" He said in barely a whisper, trying to think of a way out of this I walked around him back to my parents who were now standing in the doorway with Ryder, my mother ran to me hugging me, crying she kept saying how sorry she was, my father and brother, came to either side of me both placing their arms around me also.

I pushed them backwards into the house "get in the house" I whispered, they all looked at me confused. I pulled a knife out from my sock and turned back holding it out towards Kane and Ryder.

"Just go, leave here because im not going anywhere with a monster like you, if you want to kill me let's just get it over with now, but you stay away from my family" Kane laughed to himself as he slowly stalked back up the porch steps towards me, what was it with this man and laughing at me did he really think I was this much of a joke.

Ryder came forward before Kane had the chance to reach me, "Lets just" I didn't give him chance to finish as I backhanded him across the face and kicked him in the stomach sending him stumbling back a couple of steps, not wanting to wait for Kane's reaction I threw my knife directly at his chest, he caught it as if he expected it,

I ran back into the house attempting to shut the door in his face but he was too quick. Forcing the door wide enough for him to walk through it like it weighed nothing causing me to stumble back towards my parents. My brother jumped in front of me to protect me but I knew he would never stand a chance against Kane.

I pulled him around me not wanting all this to end in bloodshed "Elijah please don't" His eyes pleaded with mine, both of us panicking not knowing what was about to happen.

"Please Kane, Let her stay, nothing has changed she is safe here you have my word" It was my father this time that spoke up, I tried to pull him back to me keep him behind me, but Kane was too quick with his advances.

He took my father by his throat pulling him in closer to his face "everything has changed" he shouted, throwing him back against the wall.

"I'm giving you one last chance, come with me now" The anger was still evident in his voice.

"What so you can kill me like you did to your mate" he shook his head looking around the room,

I could see he was ready to explode at any moment, his hands were readily clenched tightly into fists no doubt waiting to make contact with my face. "You're my mate, I thought you had figured that out already" he shouted back making me jump slightly.

"I can change that for you, I Embry Walters reje..." I didn't even see him move, I had never known anyone to move the way he did, it was as if he transported to my front in a fraction of a second, his hand clamped over my mouth another hand holding the back of my head.

I couldn't ignore the sparks that erupted on my lips as his hand touched my skin, "you finish that sentence and I will kill your whole family right now in front of you, do you want that" I shook my head looking up at him he gently released me.

"So this is how it's going to go" He now turned to my father the corner of his lips curling upward just enough to make it clear he was planning something " I am to leave here right now with Embry and your blessing of course if not by morning you won't have a pack left to be Alpha too, so what will it be"

I could hear my mother weeping again behind me, I didn't need to look in the direction of my father to know the expression he had on his face right now, I could sense the fear and frustration coming from him in buckets. "please don't do that, you are asking me to chose between my daughter and my pack"

"times ticking old man, just bear in mind you choose wrong I will be starting with your wife and son" he smiled once again, I could feel my father's eyes on me, I knew what was coming, as devastated as I was I didn't blame him, I couldn't ask him to risk the lives of our family and the entire pack just for me.

"It's ok, ill go," I said before he could say anything.

"Embry" My father pleaded.

"It's ok, I understand" I walked towards Kane not looking at my father, tears threatening to leave my eyes, I tried my best to hold them back not show how hurt I was, I needed to stay strong for whatever was about to come my way after I leave here.

I was surprised to see Kane back up slightly bending down and grabbing my shoes which I had discarded earlier, holding them out to me I took them slipping them on.

"Let's go" He ordered as soon as he saw my shoes were on, I walked ahead of him slightly, trying my best to ignore the sobs of my family behind me.

As I walked through the door I spotted Ryder sat on the steps waiting for us, he had his head bent back pinching the bridge of his nose, I must have just caught him right when I hit him, as I walked past him he looked up at me, "I'm sorry" he didn't seem so bad, he hadn't shown an ounce of aggression since they had been here, he didn't reply to me just hummed to acknowledge my apology, I think I let's safe to say I had definitely pissed him off.

"We're heading out" Kane interrupted us.

Ryder stood up from the step "About time" Ryder sighed jumping down the steps.

I walked behind them silently, hearing my mother shout my name as my brother and father tried to console her nearly broke me, we headed straight for the forest both men talking amongst themselves, about what I had no idea, I felt numb, not caring about anything right now. Heading into the treeline all I could think was I probably wouldn't be coming out of this forest again, not alive anyway.
