CHAPTER 4 Our Sister Is Our Mate?

1187 Words
Zane POV I had to walk away. There was no choice. Another minute around that douchebag, and I would have punched him in the throat. How dare he touch what is mine? Wait? What am I saying? Elara is not my mate. My wolf is mistaken. Elara may not be my sister, but she might as well be. We have grown up together. Elara has been in attendance at every family event since we were ten. She can't possibly be my mate. I walk out the front door and hear Zeus's heavy footsteps behind me. The door shuts, and I turn to see him with his fists balled up at his sides. He is going to punch someone or something, and it isn't going to be me. Quickly, I move out of the way, and his fist collides with a pillar on the porch. The wood bends and splinters, but it does not break. Zeus rears back his fist and pummels the pillar over and over until it breaks in two. By the time he is done, he is sweaty and breathing hard. "How f*****g could she? She is mine." "Wait," I interrupt his tantrum. "What do you mean she is yours?" Zeus looks up at me; his eyes are as black as night. "Elara is my mate." Anger rages through my body. I lunge at him, grabbing him around the waist and tackling him to the ground. I throw punch after punch, trying to hit him in the face, but he keeps dodging me. My knuckles slam into the wood beside his head, and they split and bleed. Eventually, Zeus has had enough, and he tosses me off him. I land against the broken pillar and shout out in pain. "What is your problem?" Zeus screams at me. "She is mine?" I grumble back at Zeus. "My wolf has claimed her as my mate." "Impossible," Zeus snarls. "My wolf has claimed her." "It is entirely possible," Zeke's voice comes from the doorway. "We are identical. It is likely we share the same mate." "Not you, too," I groan. Zeke nods his head in response, and we all stare at one another in disbelief. None of us are sure how to handle this situation. "It's not like it matters," I finally say. "We cannot claim her." "Why not?" Zeus demands to know. "Because she is our sister, Dumbass," I scream at him. "It is wrong." "She is not truly our sister," Zeke responds quietly. "Maybe she was brought here by the Moon Goddess so we would find her one day." "Why doesn't she feel the bond?" Zeus sighs. "Why doesn't she recognize us as her mate?" "She is an Omega," Zeke reminds us. "She has no wolf to tell her." My head is spinning. I am still trying to come to terms with this information, and my brothers are talking about it like it is normal. They talk back and forth, trying to determine when and how we should tell her she is our mate and when to tell our parents. "Have you two lost your minds?" I scream. "She is our sister. It will never be accepted." "Keep your voice down," Zeke chastises me. "We don't want someone to overhear." "Bonkers, you both are completely bonkers," I laugh unbelievably. "Think about it," Zeke implores me. "Despite Elara being seven years younger, we always let her tag along. We protected her when people called her an outcast. She has been ours from the moment she stepped onto Obsidian Pack territory. Her presence here is not a coincidence." "Let's get a few things straight," I snap at him. "First, I have shared everything with you Fuckers my whole life. I am not about to share my mate. Second, she is an Omega. She cannot be our mate. Third, SHE IS OUR SISTER." "Tell me you didn't feel something different for her when you saw her tonight," Zeus says. "Tell me you didn't want the chance to be the man on her arm." I run my fingers through my hair. I cannot lie to my brothers; they know me too well. The moment Elara walked through the door tonight, time stood still. She was like a beacon of light in the darkest of night. An angel sent here by the Moon Goddess herself. I would set the world ablaze to keep her safe. I know in my heart she is mine. "I won't accept her," I say, even though it makes my wolf howl in my mind. "Either we all accept her, or none of us do," Zeus grumbles. "She deserves everything that the Moon Goddess planned for her. I can't believe you would be so selfish to deny her that." "Then none of us do," I snarl. Zeus is growling, and Zeke is standing between us, trying to be the voice of reason. The pack house door swings open, and my father is dragging Kevin out by his neck. He tosses him on the porch and stands over his cowering body. "You will leave this pack and never return," he warns Kevin. "You are a disgrace to the werewolf world." Kevin is shaking on the ground, and I see Emery peering around our father, looking at him in concern. Her lipstick is smudged, and I notice that the same shade is all over Kevin's neck and lips. Realization of what happened starts to sink in. "You can't keep me from my mate," Kevin blurts out. My father throws his head back and laughs sarcastically. "She is my pack member," he growls at Kevin. "She needs my blessing to leave this pack and join another. Unless you would prefer a rogue mate." Kevin gets to his feet and points his finger at my father's chest. "You think just because you are the Alpha of the Obsidian Pack that you are untouchable. But you just wait. Change is coming, and you will be on your knees begging for my forgiveness. Instead of forgiveness, I will make that Omega my w***e, but oh wait, I have already had her. She is subpar at best." My brothers and I have heard enough. None of us know what is going on, but no one calls Elara a w***e on our watch. We line up behind Kevin, shoulder to shoulder. This asshole has nowhere to run. Father growls at Kevin, and he jumps in fear. "I look forward to meeting you on the battlefield. You can let your Alpha know I am considering this an act of war." Kevin swallows hard. He has made a mistake, and he knows it. Still, he snaps his fingers, and Emery jumps to his side. "Even as a rogue, she is worth more than your daughter." Kevin spins around and runs straight into Zeus. Emery hides behind him. She is clutching the back of his shirt in fear. "You should watch what you say about Elara," Zeke warns. "She is loved here." Zeus cracks his knuckles in Kevin's face. "I will kill you." "Not tonight," our father interjects. "He has a message to take back to his Alpha."
