-Megan-
Four days! Four days I had been rolling around, doing nothing in my friend’s apartment. Kat was my best friend from high school, who I still kept in contact with. She knew the truth about this marriage, and she knew what an asshole Nathan could be, so she gladly let me stay over.
“Put this on,” Kat said.
“Kat, my boobs are going to fall out,” I remarked, as I held up the black dress with the lowest cut I had ever seen. “I have a little more than you!”
She smiled and nodded, as if she was implying to me without words, that was the whole point.
“No!” I exclaimed.
“Why not?” she inquired.
I held up my left hand and wiggled the fingers, so the diamond with the blue rubies on the sides glistened in the dim light in her bedroom.
“Oh, as if that thing means anything. You think Nathan isn’t using every chance he can to be with someone while being in Seattle?” she suggested.
“I would rather not think about my husband being with anyone,” I replied.
“But he is not really your husband. I mean you didn’t choose him, so why should you be loyal to him?”
I sighed and sat down on her bed, and she came to sit down beside me, putting an arm around my shoulders.
“I just hoped we could try,” I admitted.
“But you heard him, he doesn’t want to, and it is stupid for you to let this keep you trapped. You should go out there and find some hot dude, and just... screw him!”
“Kat!” I laughed, pushing her a little.
“Come on!” Kat said and pulled my arm. “Put it on and let's go dancing!”
“I don’t know.”
“Why not? Give me one good reason,” she said and crossed her arms. “I will call some friends and we will go get drunk!”
“I... I... fine!” I finally agreed.
She smiled from ear to ear, then pulled me from the bed, squeezed me into that small dress, and slipped me into a pair of black heels I knew would kill my feet. But heck, it was just one night. I was allowed to have some fun. I adorned myself with silver earrings and tied my hair into a ponytail before turning to Kat, who had already dressed herself in a tight dark purple dress and some dark blue heels.
I whistled a low tune, as she did a small twirl.
“Are we ready or what?” she asked me.
I laughed and nodded. “We are ready!”
But I hadn't been ready to get as drunk as I did. After Kat’s friends met us at the club and started treating me to shots and drinks, it went downhill from there. I couldn’t say I didn’t have fun though. I had so much fun. Dancing with Kat and grinding on one of her friends. Kat was two years older than me but had started school late, so we ended up in the same class. However, it also meant some of her friends were a little older than me. However, I enjoyed the attention. It's not like I got any at what I now called home.
“I am getting some more to drink!” I yelled to Kat’s friend, before pulling away and walking to the bar.
Yet, as I started to walk away, a wicked thought entered my head, and I ended up pulling my phone out of my purse, calling Nathan, thinking I was going to teach him a lesson, and show him I would be no typical housewife.
I was walking toward the bar, bumping into people because I wasn’t so steady on my feet, and when he finally picked up the call, I didn’t notice at first.
“Megan?” I suddenly heard from my phone, and I put it closer to my ear, while pressing my finger against the other, so I could better hear him.
“Oh, finally!” I exclaimed. “He answers! I... *hiccup* was afraid he wouldn’t... *hiccup* answer.”
“Are you drunk?” he inquired.
“Nooooo!” I lied, waving a hand through the air, as if he could see me.
“Megan, seriously, where are you?”
Oh, this felt too good. I couldn’t describe what the desperate tone in his voice made me feel. Take that, I thought.
“Megan!”
“Out!” I yelled. “Oh sh*t, wait...”
I finally reached the bar and said, “I will have another!”
I acted as if the bartender understood what I wanted, as if I had been sitting at the counter the whole time. I was so drunk that I wasn’t even sure what I asked for to begin with. Like Nathan, the server asked, ‘another what’, and I had to focus hard on telling him before remembering I was still on the phone.
“These s*x on the Beach drinks are really good. Have you tried them? They don’t even taste like alcohol.”
“Why are you calling?” he demanded. “Where the f*ck are you even?”
“Out,” I said with a cruel smile.
“Out where?”
“Just with friends.”
I could practically hear the steam coming out of his ears.
“Megan!”
Nathan didn’t get to say anything else before Kat came over. “Hey Meg! These guys want to go to this bar with them and get us free drinks.”
“What guys? Megan!” I heard him shout from the phone, even if the music was insanely loud.
“Oh really?” I remarked.
“Megan!” Nathan shouted again.
I smiled as I turned to the phone, seeing the smirk on Kat’s face.
“Oh, you’re still there,” I acted.
“Who is it?” Kat yelled, as if she didn’t already know.
“My husband!”
“Oh, the asshole?”
“Yes.”
We smiled at each other while I sipped a little from my drink, feeling like the villain in a movie who was just watching the hero struggle as he tried to save himself from falling into shark-infested water.
“How much have you had to drink?” he inquired.
“Not much.”
“Shots!” Kat suddenly yelled, ready to get this party to a whole other level.
“Right,” he retorted.
“I have to go,” I said, knowing this was going to be the final blow to his ego.
“Megan, you go home right now!”
“Noooo! It’s boring and I hate it! Besides, you are not here, so I can drink as much as I want to, and you can’t say a thing.”
“Then why the f*ck did you call me?” he demanded.
“Why do you think? To tell you that I think you are so cruel and that I am having fun without you!”
“I thought you hated clubbing,” he said.
“No, I said I don’t like you,” I informed him. “And now I gotta go!”
“Megan! Go home. You hear me! We will talk about this behavior when I get back.”
I rolled my eyes and said, “Screw you! I am getting free drinks because there is actually someone who appreciates the way I look!”
“Megan!”
But I hung up before Kat and I shared a shot, then we went with the guys to the next bar.
