Emmett entered the town with Jack on his left, where his partner could see him. Monty kept ahead of them, prowling through the crowd like a hungry wolf then circling back, a wicked grin never leaving his face. His dark eyes glistened with lust and greed. “Excited?” he asked Emmett with a wink. Before Emmett could answer, Jack eased back the front of his coat, flashing his pistol. Monty rolled his eyes and draped an arm around Emmett’s shoulder. “We should ditch him,” he said, his voice loud enough for Jack to overhear. “Get a room at the inn, you and me.
