Chapter 2Robert burst into laughter, and I wanted to knock him on that arse of his. Instead, I determined to maintain my composure. I did glare at him, though, glared at his brother and the snake boy beside him, and then strode toward the stairs, angrier than I could remember being in my life. Anger…I wouldn’t let myself consider it might be despair. Abruptly, Robert caught my arm and jerked me around. “Do not—” Before I could get out more than that, Robert’s shoulder connected with my diaphragm, making further speech difficult, turning any additional words to more of an oof. He hoisted me up in a fireman’s lift and stormed up the stairs to the first floor. I was more than impressed by the sheer physicality of his act, and I prayed he would not feel how aroused I’d become from his action
